    2. Criteria wise Inputs

    CRITERION 1 : CURRICULAR ASPECTS

    1.1 Goal Orientation

    1. State the vision and mission of the institution.

The vision of the founders of the Institution way back in 1973 when

the college was set up as the humble but noble desire of bringing higher

education within the reach of the needy students of this socially,

    economically and culturally backward area.

The world order has been subjected to many a change ever since the

inception of the college and in keeping pace with the emerging modern

trends in the field of education, we have realized the need for redefining our

    vision and activities.

Our vision is to provide high quality holistic education in an inspiring

and learning environment that maximizes the potential of each individual to

    become a responsible global citizen.

We take into cognizance the changing needs of the students and make

every effort to impart them an education that would make them realize the

core values in the context of ongoing phenomena like Globalization and

    privatization.

We wish to develop in students skills and competencies that would

enable them to successfully face the challenges in the changing global

scenario besides inculcating in them a sense of social values.

    Our MISSION is

To strengthen the academic and administrative ambience of the institution

To enlarge the gamut of programme options by giving prominence to the Thrust Areas of modern education

To update the knowledge base of both the faculty and students.

To make sustained efforts to make use of Information and Communication Technology in the field of Teaching- learning and

    administration.

To strengthen the areas of Teaching Learning and Evaluation by adopting a student centric approach

  • Self Study Report Cycle 1

    S.V.A.S.College, Giddalur, Prakasam District, A.P. Page 31

    To start new self-finance courses

To develop among students a sense of human values

To monitor the progress of each student by strengthening the existing Evaluation and Feed Back mechanism

To bridge the gap between the advanced learners and the show ones through special attention to the latter

To go into the society and enable students to have an understanding of the social, cultural, economic and environmental

    realities present there

To serve the society using the services of the students by properly channelising their energies through promotion of activities of

N.S.S, N.C.C, Red cross, Red Ribbon club etc

To promote communication skills among the students

To take into confidence students and parents who are the chief stake holders by establishing rapport with them and make them participate in our pursuit of imparting quality education

To appraise the society of our efforts to provide quality education

Core values : 1. College is a temple and students are our Gods.

    2. Our College does not distinguish pupil based on religion or

    caste.

    3. The creation of a positive learining experience.

Discipline : Effective self management which inculcates confidence and

    boldness to a student.

Respect : Respecting onself and others, tolerance, Intercultural and Social

    2. Does the mission statement reflect the institutions distinctive characteristics in terms of addressing the needs of the society, the

students it seeks to serve, institutions traditions and value orientations, vision for the future etc?

Our mission statement is in conformity with the vision we have for the

future. It emphasizes our realization of the need for redefining the goals so

as to provide value based education combined with enhanced training in

skills that would equip the students for global demands. We believe that

this is possible only through providing a good number of programme

options (with this view we have started new courses). These programmes

have to be in the realms of newly developing subjects like Computers and

Electronics which the society now needs.

Our mission is to develop responsible words global citizens who are

proactive and adapatbale professionals through and evolving and

progressive curriculum and world class facilities.

Our mission statement reflects our desire to develop a knowledge

society among the student Community and to create an awareness of the

opportunities they have after leaving the institution. We have the task of

exposing our students to the advancement in the world outside. One of the

chief features of the institution is that it aims at providing higher education

that is in inexpensive. This suits the students of this backward area.

    3. What are the goals and objectives of the college? How are they made known to the various stakeholders?

As already mentioned our goals and objectives are reflected in our

    vision and mission statement.

Our primary aim is to help the students of our rural background to

realize the on going changes in the advanced realms of education and to

instill confidence that is required to face the challenges ahead.

Identifying and enhancing the hidden talents of the students and

helping them come out of the traditional reserve attitude and face the world

of competition with self confidence is our aspiration.

We use different methods to let these aims and objectives be known to

    the public especially to stake-holders.

A Hand Book is given to students in the beginning of the academic

year in which our aims and objectives are detailed. We frequently conduct

Parent Meetings and apprise them of the academic activities in the college

    and seek their suggestions.

We hold orientation classes to students and impress upon them the

    calendar? How is it prepared?

The Teaching Learning evaluation schedule is prepared well in advance during the summer vacation for the ensuing academic year.

Normally the academic calendar prepared by the University reaches us in

February/March. Feasible number of hours to be allotted to each paper are

suggested. The academic calendar is prepared with the help of the Calendar

    Committee.

The Calendar committee for the present year consists of

Dr. V. Bali Reddy, Lecturer in Telugu, department of Telugu,

Dr. A.Kanchiyya, Lecturer in History, department of History with Principal

    as the Chairman.

The Staff Council plays an important role in the preparation of

annual calendar. They decide the number of optional holidays to be given.

The almanac for the year is prepared taking into consideration the

number of working days, month wise. The breakup of syllabus unit wise is

prepared. For this members of every department meet and prepare the

annual academic plan for the whole year in all the papers taught by the

faculty. Allowance is made for any unforeseen loss of working days or

dislocation of work. While preparing unit wise syllabus the academic plan

suggested by the University is followed as far as possible.

The target syllabus month wise is covered by the individuals.

Statements regarding the coverage of syllabus are obtained from

individuals every two months as a measure of feedback. The information is

    recorded in the Performance Indicators.

    1. Annual academic plan.

    2. Coverage of syllabus month wise.

The in-charges of the departments supervise the coverage of

    syllabus.

At the end of the month each teacher reviews the coverage of

syllabus and holds extra classes for the students for whom the targeted

    syllabus is not covered.

Every lecturer has to maintain a teaching diary in which the

coverage of syllabus and a synopsis of the subject taught is recorded. The

in-charge of the department verifies the diaries at the end of every month

and offers necessary suggestions to the individual lecturers. The teaching

diaries are submitted to the Principal once in a month.

In the class rooms a student centric approach is adopted. Smart

strategies are used to make the process of teaching a pleasant job. We have a

team of well trained and experienced teachers who work with dedication. In

the first few days of the academic year the academically backward students

are identified and special attention is provided to them.

Students of the first year degree courses who come from a different

stream in the +2 stage are provided Bridge courses in some faculties.

Every teacher uses some time to get a feedback from students on the

subject he has taught in the previous classes. Special attention is provided to

students lagging behind in the class.

Evaluation is mainly through the examinations we conduct. Every

year three major home tests i.e. Quarterly, Half-yearly and Hope

examinations are conducted. Beside these two or three Bi-monthly tests are

conducted. Lecturers allot a few periods for Assignments.

The number of working days is normally 220 inclusive of

examination days. We adhere to the working schedule suggested by the

    University.

    2. What courses use predominantly the lecture method? Apart from classroom interactions, what other methods of teaching-learning are

    provided to students?

In almost all courses we use the conventional lecture method with

the Black Board as the major teaching-aid. But often in various faculties,

teachers use additional resources in teaching - learning process. Charts,

models, and Over Head Projectors are used depending on the need. In the

language lab computers and hearing devices (Micro Phones) are used.

Science department use the facility of Epidiascope which is available in the

Botany department. Recently we have added an L.C.D. to our infrastructure

which will be of great use in teaching.

The lecturers guide the students in preparing their seminar topics.

Seminars are conducted inviting resource persons belon
