Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), is characterized by group of inflammatory conditions of colon and intestine.
Ulcerative colitis (UC) & Crohn’s disease
IBD ?
Ulcerative colitis ? Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic disease characterized
by mucosal and submucosal inflammation limited the colon (large intestine) with cryptitis
Patients with UC are at higher risk of colorectal carcinoma (Khor et al,2011)
Introduction
Causes of UC Genetic abnormalities - Overstimulation or inadequate regulation of mucosal immune system Altered colonic microflora - Inappropriate immune response to the host microorganisms Environmental factors - dietary substances may encourage modification of intestinal bacterial profile Psychological stress – stress factor may also encourage induction of UC
Present status of Knowledge Research
