2014 Season YEARBOOK
NORTHERN FORTIES RE-ENACTMENT GROUP
2014 YEARBOOK
Foreword by Wayne Stokes, Chairman
I want to thank all our members who have found the time
to come to the events and put on a good show on behalf
of the group. Yet again, the feedback we have had is that
Northern Forties remains one of the most dedicated
groups around, with our core displays proving to be
popular with the public and event organisers.
That isn’t to say it was all plain sailing. The negative press
coverage we (almost) received from the Mirror Online
and that backside-wiping rag The Sun after Brighouse
wasn’t as bad as it could have been, thanks to some
shockingly bad research by the reporter. The online
comments about the article – which was directed more at
the organisers of the event rather than us – showed
overwhelmingly that the newspapers had entirely got the
wrong end of the stick with 95% of the comments in our
favour. The Brighouse organisers also stood their ground
and rightly defended their position to have held the event
the way in which they did. The newspapers lost the
argument, and they deserved to.
Onwards, and 2015 will be an interesting year as we look
again to organising our own event at Hooton Park in the
summer. I hope you enjoy this Yearbook as in previous
years, and that it brings back more recent memories of
some of the fun we have had together during 2014.
Foreword by Mark Anthony Craig,
Secretary
What an interesting year this has been. A year of
contrasting weather, from the baking sun at Rauceby to
the flooded, evacuated disaster that befell Cleethorpes. I
will never forget waking up at 4 in the morning to find the
tent filled with rising water and the mad scramble to get
my gear into the car before it was ruined. It is a shame,
but the weather can either make or break an event.
On a sad note, this year we lost two of our members who
passed away – Ken Brookes and Paul George were well
respected veteran re-enactors whose presence will be
sorely missed.
As in previous years, this Photo Album showcases what
our group and re-enactment are all about. This hobby is
about sharing knowledge and experience, but is also a
social “thing” where re-enactors all feel part of an
extended family. And families like to have fun.
Hopefully, looking through the photos here, you can see
that fun for yourself.
My thanks to all those members and other
photographers who have contributed to this
photographic record of our time together through this
season.
