Dear Model & Aircraft enthusiast,

About six months ago, we presented our own book label: Greyhound Books, with our fi rst two publications. Our goal is to off er several lines of aircraft- and modelling books. To achie-ve this, we have formed a great team of photographers, model-lers, spotters, copywriters. We have had a lot of people wonde-ring about our future plans, so we believe a periodical newsletter every now and then might be a good idea to keep you informed. Who is Greyhound Books?Greyhound Books is a label of C2A, a company active in communication & editing. Next to our daily work, we love aircraft and scale modeling. In the past we have had the opportunity to work for several publications in this area, but it was our dream to make our own books. Although many aviation books have been published so far, we often felt frustra-ted by the lack of details. On the other hand, we don’t want to make our books too complex. A technical manual isn’t that much fun to go through. So, the idea was to get a good mix and we created the Detail Series: it’s a walk-around, offers a good view of the cockpit, shows some great action shots and a view in the maintenance hangar.

The first thing we did was write down a shortlist of aircraft we wanted in our series. Man, there’s a lot of work yet to be done! In the end, we selected the F-4 E/F Phantom II. This magnificant aircraft celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, and is still very active indeed! Some of us made plans to go to Germany and Greece to take photos, while others went cave-diving in their archives to get all the necessary information. The end result looks like this:

The walk-around-section of the book: large, clear photos show every detail of the aircraft. We explain what can be seen on every photo and how the aircraft is operated. In all the walk-around is 56 pages of the book.

Not every Phantom II has the same cockpit. In 14 pages, we show the cockpit in all its detail, including the ejection seat in and out of the cockpit.

Action! the Phantom II during operations, showing all aspects of its capabilities (36 pages), including Greek, Ger-man, USAF, Japanese, Israeli and Turkish Phantoms.

The Phantom needs extensive maintenance. We take a look at the aircraft with panels, gun, engines and spine removed...

JP Van Regenmortel builds the ultimate F-4E in 1/32 !

When Jean-Pierre Van Regenmortel got his copy of Detail Series n°1 on the F-4 E/F & RF-4E, he was very motivated to build Tamiya’s F-4E and modify it into an F-4 P.I. 2000 (Pegasus I) upgraded air-craft. The photos in the book were very helpful to super-detail the cockpit, canopies, landing gear and the features specific for this update: the chin pod, snsors on the air intakes, IFF antennas on the nose and antennas on the vertical tail and parachute housing.

Jean-Pierre is a very experienced modeller who has won a great deal of model contests with his 1/32 scale kits. He has made some very spectacular models of tiger F-16s, F/A-18s and Tor-nado. For this Phantom II, he took a closer look at the weathering of the often used Greek F-4s. A closer look at the model even shows the footmarks of the maintenance crew on top of the wings and fuselage, exactly as can be seen in the book!

More photos of this F-4 II can be found on our website www.greyhound-books.com !

How about the cockpit details of this kit?

Our next publication in the Model Master-series:

Propeller-driven aircraft

built for this publication! Our top-builders are Dirk Peeters, Danny Stabel, Jean-Pierre Van Regenmortel, François Laloux, Phil Hale, and many more. Some of the models that have been built: Focke Wulf D-9 & Me 109 K-4 (Revell, 1/32), Avenger (Trumpeter 1/32), Sea Fury (Fisher Models 1/32), Skyraider (Tamiya 1/48), Mus-tang & Thunderbolt (1/72 Revell), SeaFire (Airfix 1/48), Wy-vern (Trumpeter 1/72), Ju 52 (Revell 1/48) and many more!

Greyhound Books

When I was a kid, there was one man who was setting new standards when it came to air-craft photography for the serious modeler and aircraft-enthusiast: Willy Peeters. His Lock On pu-blications are known all around the world and have been sold in thousends of copies.

Today, Greyhound Books has the honour of welcoming the fi rst publication by this talented pho-tographer, artist, graphic desig-ner and modeler: a detailed view of the Sepecat Jaguar.

This 52-page book is fi lled with all the details of the aircraft, in-cluding cockpit, landing gear, wings,... It also shows the Jaguar in maintenance in service with the RAF and IAF.

The action-pages show some very interesting photographs of low level fl ying Jaguars and some ex-tremely rare shots of the Jaguar during aircraft-carrier trials!

Similar to the PhantomII book, the Jaguar book comes with a very handy book-mark (with cartoon by Willy Peeters) that enables you to navigate easily through the pages.

This book will be available soon at around 16 euro ( £ 11) For more info: www.greyhound-books.com
