Scholar Register is a new website which has been created by a local web-developer for the administration of Past Pupil As- sociations. It is an online database, and a visitor to the site can locate friends who have matriculated from Hudson Park, view class lists from the past, keep abreast of events and reunions, and participate in fundraising efforts for the school. Information can also be accessed via the new Scholar Register Mobile App. This includes a Business Directory which will gener- ate a small income for the school. It will be linked to the Hudson Park website, and it will offer listing for companies owned by direct family members of our current pupils and by Old Hudso- nians. We are excited about the potential of Scholar Register. Over a thousand Old Hudsonians have already registered, from classes dating back to 1972, and we are looking forward to a rise in num- bers, as word spreads. Automatic registration for all our school- leavers will commence at the end of the year with the Class of 2016. Old Hudsonian Association Scholar Register Joseph was a phenomenal success and the Guild Theatre was filled to capacity almost every night of the run. The production received outstanding reviews and it made our school proud. It was the first time collaborating with the Primary school and they rose to the challenge with much enthusiasm. With just over a hundred cast members, the stage came alive every night with talented learners who were both polished and “professional”. It has been a long time since such an abundance of talent has been seen, heard, on or off stage. Eugene Gouws, Nathan Johannisen and Wesley Wong did a brilliant job, both with the choir and band. The production speaks volumes for the amount of talent we have, at both schools, regarding both learners and staff. It is yet another feather in the creative cap of both schools! Mr and Mrs CultureThe Mr & Miss Culture evening was a spectacular event with all the different cultures represented by pupils who played their parts exceptionally well. The judges had a hard time deciding on the winners but in the end Mr Culture, Estiaan Swanepoel and a lovely Miss Culture, Nkwenkwezi Rulumeni, were named the winners. It was a lovely evening showcasing the diversity of culture at Hudson.

CheerleadersThe Hudson Park Cheerleaders were recently found cheering on participants in the 2016 BUFFALO CITY ITU WORLD PARATRIATHLON EVENT held on the beach front. Their coach, Ms Jackie Acton, said that the cheerleading group were chosen to dance the whole day and it was a good promotional display that put Hudson Park on the map again.

Hudson Extravaganza The recently held Extravaganza was a major success and with all the hard work and training by the contestants, as well as the entertainers, the

evening was thoroughly enjoyed by the pupils and parents. The winners, Alanna Scott and Lukhanyo Mnyute were all big smiles about their achievement on the night. Well done to the MDC for assisting throughout.

HUDSON SPORT

InteractAt the end of last term Interact and GAP went out to Stoney Drift rubbish dump to help with the monthly baby washing run by Joshua and Rachel Minter. We were able to take out a few boxes of food that the grade 8’s donated to them as well as some toys from Interact. The learners washed babies, played soccer and painted nails

while enjoying the company of the locals. This community is based on the rubbish dump and we are privileged to be able to help out under the guidance of Joshua and Rachel.

Hudson donates 58 units of blood-making a difference! Recently pupils were allowed to donate blood, some for the first time. Although this was a serious occasion in allowing Hudsonians to give back to the community in the form of blood donations, the pupils still managed to have fun.

The Bhongolethu service group has been helping Bhongolethu to sort out their library in order for it to become a functional resource center for teachers and pupils.

Fairy Godmother’s CupboardMrs Acton has transformed Hudson Park High School’s dreary walk-in safe into a wardrobe of over 100 gorgeous gowns and a growing selection of glitzy heels that girls can borrow for the big night. Thank you to all the pupils, parents and community members who have donated dresses.

SA U/19 CRICKET TO SRI LANKA

Two Hudsonians, Akhona Mnyaka and Siphamandla Krweqe, have been selected to the South African U/19 team to tour Sri-Lanka from 16 June- 15 July 2016 – this is an amazing achievement for any school! It is an honour for these two Grade 10 left-arm fast bowlers to have been selected and the school wishes them everything of the best in their future cricketing careers. They follow in the footsteps of left-arm fast bowler Ngazibini Sigwili, who opened the bowling in the final of the 2014 U/19 World Cup in the U.A.E. which South Africa won for the first time.

RUgBy MAKINg HISTORy

It was a historic day for Hudson Park in that the 1st XV recorded their first ever victory over Queen’s College having first played them at 1st team level since 1985. Queens have always been Hudson’s “hoodoo side” through the years with many close matches but the victory has always eluded Hudson. The closest Hudson got to victory was the draw 13-13 in (2012) with other close matches being 18-20 (2014) ; 30-38 (2013); 8-14 (2010); 12-13 (2004); 7-11 (2002); 15-16 (1990) and 3-4 in (1989). Hudson Park have now also beaten all the Border Colleges at rugby with two wins (1982 and 2004) and a draw (2013) against Selborne and four wins against Dale College (1983), (2007), (2013) and (2015).

SOCCER

The girls first team are currently leading the girls soccer league under East London City High Schools Soccer association. They are undefeated with only one draw as a blemish in their quest for another title. They have won five games so far and there is only one game left. They have also amassed 23 goals and only conceded five goals. Another league title is beckoning.

gIRLS’ HOCKEy

Congratulations to our Hudson Park hockey girls 1st team that won the Fairmont Hockey Tournament in Cape Town. They were unbeaten at the tournament in eight matches. The team also became the third team to qualify for the SPAR Eastern Cape School girls Hockey Challenge finals. Hudson claimed the honours with a 1-0 win over Clarendon to join Collegiate and DSG in the Eastern Cape finals to be played at Woodridge outside Port Elizabeth in August.

BOyS’ HOCKEyAgainst Cambridge, the team won 6-1, with Ethan van Heerden scoring 2 goals, and Tyler Mackenzie scoring 4. We then took on a determined Merrifield team. The team won comfortably by 6-1. At the Kingswood Festival, the team lost to York in the first match, but then never lost another one. They beat Graeme 4-0, St Georges 4-2 and Cornwall 2 - 0; drew 0-0 to St Andrews College and 2 – 2 against St Andrews School. The next two derby matches were against Kingswood College (1-0 win) and Pearson (0 – 3 loss), but the highlight of the season was our matches against Stirling and Queen’s College. Against Stirling, the team were 2-1 down with a little over 15 minutes left in the game. Mihlali Matross scored the vital equalizer, then Byron Toogood scored 3 crucial goals to seal the win at 5-2. Against Queen’s College, Ethan van Heerden dealt the first blow with an exceptional top left drag-flick. Queens responded with an equally impressive goal. We again took the lead with a second goal from Ethan. Ethan scored his third goal to give Hudson a 2 goal cushion. Queens scored their second with 16 seconds left on the clock, resulting in a 3-2 win.

NETBALL

Our U/14 A & B sides are still unbeaten this term in the Border Region. During the March/April holidays 20 of our netball players attended a netball coaching clinic hosted by PUK, course leader Doret Badenhorst

who has been the U/21 SA Coach and now the SA Senior coach. The players that attended learned so much from this clinic and it can truly be seen in the excellent results so far this term. A huge thank you to all the parents of these players for supporting your children and allowing them to go. A highlight for our 1st Netball team was beating Cambridge with a score of 29-20. The last time we beat them was in 2013. A huge thank you to Mrs Kwinana from Sunrise Catering, Mr Beaumont from Copy World and the Windmill for their generous sponsorship and support of our 1st netball team. Your contribution to netball at Hudson Park is truly appreciated.
