We call this the Way of the Wolf. Further, we assessed all students in literacy and math through district reading assessments and the iReady math assessment. We use this information as a way to benchmark student learning progress in literacy and mathematics. Classroom teachers and school leadership analyze the data to celebrate student growth and identify supports for instruction. Another key event in January was our Martin Luther King Jr. and PRO Award Assembly. During the assembly, 4th grade student leaders read excerpts from Dr. King’s famous I Have A Dream speech. They followed up the reading by sharing MLK’s impact, opportunities, and legacy. During the month of February, we recognize Black History or African-American History month. Our staff is providing learning experiences through reading, writing, and video to understand the history, stories, and change, African-American women and men have experienced in our country. In the past two years, with the support of our PTO and the Camas Education Foundation, we have increased our text collection in the library for students to have more diverse options to learn about cultures, historical gures, and perspectives. Additionally, our most recent core literacy adoption, ReadyGen, has provided our staff with a diverse set of anchor texts to teach students through a culturally responsive lens throughout the school year. It is important for us to honor Black History Month and also continue to enhance our curriculum and learning experiences throughout the school year. As a parent and educational leader, I feel it is important for students to learn through windows and mirrors; windows allow students to learn from the experiences of others and mirrors allow students to see themselves in the curriculum. If you ever have any questions or concerns, feel free to call me at 833-5860 ext. 78221 or email me at: [email protected]. Make every day count! Brian Graham, Principal
