JUNE 2005
Place: Melears Barbeque, Fayetteville, GA
Occasion: May Meeting North Georgia SDC
Studebaker fans and friends attended the May meeting. We celebrated birthdays with a special “celebration”
cake and also celebrated Dan and Barbara Miller’s anniversary. The birthdays for the month in attendance were John & Arlene Hollier, Maureen Elliott, & Don Smith. Chuck Lampman gave the treasurer’s report which was the best news of
the day, a nice profit on the State Meet. A follow-up meeting of the Meet com-mittee after the meeting critiqued the meet and gen-erated ideas and sugges-tions for improvement for our next meet in 2007.

of Studebakers and a stalwart club member. It was nice seeing Myrtle out at the Orphan Show with her wheel chair chauffer: Ed.
Ed Burris has played a vital role in the world of Studebaker both as a national representa-tive and also a leader in the North Georgia club. His monthly reports have kept us in-formed on the direction the national SDC is going as our Southeast representative on the National Board of Directors. He and wife, Myrtle, have been national members since 1967. They are the original owners of their beautiful 1964 Avanti R1-1 which they often bring to the monthly meetings. Ed is a compendium of information on the history

President’s Message;:
What a great way to move into the summer, the budget is back to respectability, the membership is growing steadily, and the enthusiasm gener-ated by a successful and popular Georgia State Meet seems to abound. The next monthly meeting at Dan and Barbara Miller’s brings back the old tradition of the pot-luck supper which used to be the norm for these meetings. When I first joined in 1999 I was astounded at the effort a member put forth to host 40 plus attendees at their home. I could see my wife’s face if I said I was bringing 40 for dinner. My hat goes off to the pot luck tradition. It reminds me of my roots
in the South, the reunions and the dishes that everyone would bring. Everything, and I mean everything, was home cooked. It would have been embarrassing to bring bought chicken or any other dish to a reunion. I remember going to a friend’s pot luck and seeing bought food in a box and thinking that wasn’t up to my family’s standards. Well rest assured those days are over, the bought food is pretty good, but, let’s face it, homemade is special.
