Highlights this past month have included a fun presentation night and our Open Short Course carnival. We also saw our club represented at the Metro South West Presentation night and our Gold and Junior Gold squads pounding the pavements of Bradbury and St Helens Park to deliver phone books as a fundraiser. June and July will see our club competing at the Met South West Champs (June 29/30) where we have hosting duties on the Saturday morning. Please volunteer for one of the hosting duties, it’s a great way to help out behind the scenes at a carnival. Please also make sure you choose a time for timekeeping in one of the other sessions - no experience is necessary at all, and we can buddy you up with someone with experience if you really are worried! Our Open short course carnival on the long weekend was another success for our club this year. The smooth running of this carnival (entries via swim central the exception!) was due to the amount of parents volunteering to support all aspects of the carnival. We especially thank the timekeepers, raffle ticket sellers, bbq cooks, and those that made sure all our officials were well fed! We get great feedback about this carnival and this year was no exception! Well done everyone. Make sure you read Paul’s Presidents chat in regards to our swimming weekend away to Canberra in November. Book your accommodation and be ready for a fun filled weekend of swimming and socialising! CAPTAIN’S CHATTER Last month we had our club presentation which was filled with laughs, jokes and smiles. We loved hearing from the coaches and swimmers and all their stories they shared about the squads. Congratulations to everyone on the awards you received. Your hard work pays off. We loved seeing the (very accurate) gold squad video. It made us laugh a lot. I think we can all agree the food was amazing. The night ended with loads of photos and a bit of a dance party.    All the swimmers are getting into the short course season now trying to hit their goals and PBs. We had our Open Carnival on Sunday and all of our swimmers, especially our youngsters swam amazingly. Our swimmers managed plenty of Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. Everyone had a fun time cheering each other on. We loved seeing one of our own coaches, Sarah McNevin, compete too. Thanks to our coaches Darryl, Sophia and Kaylie who helped us out on the day. Your time is always greatly appreciated. It was a fantastic day and since everyone swam so well, we got to have Monday off.   Blake and Hannah

ATTENTION: SQUAD MEMBERS!!!!

Could all Squad members make sure they put their names on their bottles, boards, fins etc.

When you are finished swimming, make sure you check your equipment so that you take your own gear and not somebody

else's by mistake!!!  If you do take equipment by mistake, please bring it back the

next session.

From the Secretary….  MSW SC Champs Helpers are needed for the SMSW Short Course Championships 29/30 June 2019. Our Club has Hosting duties for the Saturday morning. We will need the following:

● Car Park helper - be at SOPAC to hand out the Car park vouchers for the Technical Officials. (1 person)

● Front desk (1 person already volunteered - need another one.)

● Medal Table (1 person has already volunteered - need another one.)

● Refreshments - (2 people) ● Runner - (1 person.)

I have asked for help with all the jobs - but we have joint hosting duties with 2 other Clubs. Sometimes the smaller Clubs are unable to help out as they have no swimmers attending the Meet. So if you volunteered - you may only have to do a portion of the session ( will see on the day )  Then for Session 2,3 and 4 - we will need Time keepers. Every family attending the meet is expected to timekeep. Please let me know your preferred time and I will add it to the roster. If you do not give a preferred time, you will be given a time in one of the 3 sessions.

Phone Book deliveries. A huge thank you to everyone who helped out with the phone books. So far we have received in our Club bank account $1400.00. Awesome work to deliver just under 6000 books to Bradbury and St Helens Park.

President’s Chat. Our Sympathy

Firstly goes to Norden family in Queensland with the passing of Maureen Norden. Maureen served as club president for one year and her children Lee and Brooke represented the club for many years.  Our thoughts are with the Norden family.  We also offer our most sincere sympathy to the Southby family with the passing of Travis – aged 14. Travis was known to many of our swimmers and coaches through squad and through school.  While we can’t imagine what the family has and is going through we do offer our thoughts and prayers to them at this difficult time.

Thanks to Judith for organising the phone book deliveries. We had a very short lead time on being asked if we wanted to participate and do the deliveries. Thanks to all our swimmers and parents who volunteered. We had an excellent response from you and that is greatly appreciated.

Open Carnival

We could not have asked for a better day weather wise for our Open Carnival. After a very cold Saturday, the weather on Sunday was just about a perfect winter’s day. This was a large Carnival for us with just 1450 entries (a few more than expected).   The day ran like clockwork thanks to all of our helpers. From the BBQ to Announcing, Marshalling, Check Starting, Timekeeping, Recording, Starting and refereeing, everyone played their part in running a meet that went like clockwork on the day, finishing about 40 minutes earlier than expected. We have a reputation for running good Carnivals and the weekends effort certainly enhanced that.  A special thank you to our race secretary Sokka Lam. I have never been part of a Carnival where the entry process was so difficult. The issues Sokka faced with the new Swimming Australia ‘Swim Central’ software was frustrating and extremely disappointing. Sokka spent many nights up until the early hours of the morning sifting through emails, taking manual entries from team manager to ensure that no one missed out. The fact she did all that in the most pleasant manner, and not losing it is a testament to the lovely person she is. Thanks Sokka

From a swimming perspective – it is always great to see our kids racing at our pool. We had lots of PB’s. A special mention goes to coach Sarah for diving into the pool for some races. While she was disqualified in one race (her first DQ since she was 7) she swam really well.

12 and Under Carnival

Our 12 and under Carnival is in August. I would urge anyone who wishes to swim at that Carnival to put in your entries as early as you can (entries are open now). It is our intention to reduce the cap on this Carnival to 1200 entries to ensure an early finish for our younger swimmers.  If you have trouble entering, please email our secretary (Judith) or our race secretary (Sokka). Don’t leave this to the last minute….

At this Carnival we do ask our senior swimmers to time keep on the day. This year we will also ask our Gold Squad swimmers to take that a step further. We will set a date where Ty our referee will speak to them on timekeeping. Then we will ask them to do the online test, and they will then gain their timekeeping accreditation on the day of the Carnival.  Helpers on the BBQ

If you would like to help out on the BBQ on club nights - don’t be shy just come over.  You don’t have to help every week – just let me know when you can help and we can slot you in

Time Keeping  Thanks to everyone who volunteers to timekeep at our club nights and Carnivals – that is much appreciated. It would be great to have some our parents gain their official accreditation. It is an easy process – there is an online course on the NSW swimming website https://nsw.swimming.org.au/technical-officials/learn-nsw/training-courses

Do the course, print off the paperwork when complete, bring it along to club and Stuart and Ty can assess you on a club night.

Canberra Carnival in Summer  Just so you can plan ahead, we will be going to Canberra to swim at the AIS on the 2nd and 3rd of November. The meet will be hosted by the Telopea club. The program for the 2019 Carnival is not available yet but you look at last years program and qualifying times on their website http://www.telopeaswimclub.org.au under Meets. This should not change much  Again as a club we would ask everyone to stay at the Alivio Tourist Park. We had a great time there last year and staying together is a lot of fun for both parents and swimmers……   Hopefully we will see you down there.

We hope you enjoy your time with us.  Swim Central  Here is some general information that I am able to confirm in regards to my role as the Registrar in Swim Central.

1) Swimmers no longer have membership numbers in Swim Central and therefore no membership cards will be distributed next Registration season.

2) In regards to notifications of new members, I will no longer receive a separate email from Swimming Australia/NSW. However, when I log in to Swim Central as the Registrar, I will receive notification then and this will become effective in the coming weeks or months'.

You are of course aware there have been and there are still teething problems with entering Meets in Swim Central. We are in contact with Metro South West and Swimming NSW in trying to resolve them as soon as possible and any news will be sent out to all.  We are all still learning the ins & outs of this new system together and I thank you for your patience and in trying to help each other.  Have a great winter season!   Roberta

WINTER CLUB MARSHALLING

Swimmers and their parents are reminded that it is their responsibility to ensure they are at marshalling for their event. Winter club can be quite hectic and noisy, so it is important to listen for announcements and not be

swimming in the pools between races.

Many thanks!
