I have been given this task for the first time but as I was in the last News andevents committee I am aware of the requirements namely to ensure that thecommunity is informed of current and forthcoming events.

This includes events by LCNL and its variants like Mahila Mandal, Senior Social Centre (Men), SeniorSocial Centre (Ladies), RCT, LCF (Lohana Charitable Foundation) and YLS (Young Lohana Society).We also aim to provide updates on the Building Project, announcements and celebrations, variousarticles and of course Contact Details of Committee members, project leaders and various bodies.To fulfil this task I have been blessed with a capable team with specialties which includes VinodThakrar, Jeet Rughani, Yatin Dawada, Meena Jasani and Dinesh Shonchhatra. I thank Vinay andHitesh of Spotcolor for the printing and also the advertisers for the issue.

I am grateful to our President Vinod Thakrar and the Executive committee for trusting me with thistask the aim of which is to convey useful information to the membership. As this will be a regularbulletin I would be happy to receive any information considered beneficial to the Community.

Finally we have dedicated this edition to honour the recent success of Shri Narendrabhai Modi asthe Prime Minister of India who is and shall remain by the grace of God the shining star of Gujaratand the Gujarati Community.

Constitution Committee Chairperson’s Report

As you may be aware I was appointed to this position by the Executive Committee of 2013-14 witha view to updating our constitution.

Following this I have undertaken that task with the help of my full committee consisting of AmratlalRadia, Janubhai Kotecha, Deepak Jatania, Manish Sangani Dinesh Kotecha Vinod Thakrar andMansukhbhai Raichura including sporadic assistance from the YLS Chairperson and Solicitor ReenaPopat.

I put before the Community a draft working constitution which was debated thoroughly at theSGM on 13 April 2014. It was then resolved that I should continue to be the Chairperson and adate should be fixed after 90 days to finalise and approve the document and equally allowingmembers to make their comments.

I have received a number of suggestions. After considering and discussing these with senior andprominent LCNL members I will present to the Community an amended version of the documentfor final approval.

I want to begin by thanking the membership for entrusting me with theresponsibility of the President at the last AGM on13 April 2014. I amhonoured and privileged to attain this prestigious office of our very largecommunity. It is exciting that after my service as a Secretary for three yearsand Vice Presidents duties for two years, I can now further make contribution to serve ourorganisation. I am aware that with this high office, there is a big responsibility that follows. I intendto fulfil this to the best of my ability. I wish to thank our past President Deepakbhai Jatania andretiring officers for their service to the community.

I am encouraged by having a new enthusiastic team .This year we have 5 new committee membersand with some officers retiring, gave us an additional opportunity to promote other members tothe officer’s position. Our management structure consisting of LCNL, Mahila Mandal, Social Centre(Men), Social Centre (Ladies) and YLS is excellent I will be working very closely with the Chairpersonand the Secretaries of each of the operating bodies. Last year I have worked at a close proximitywith our youth body (YLS) who are a group of professionals having a lot new ideas and full ofenthusiasm. They are our future, therefore, we should encourage them to recruit younger membersto join us at all our events and activities.

My task is also to built unity, work with all the operating bodies, raise profile our community, andcooperate with our trust boards namely, LCF & RCT and enhance operational matters I am positivelyconvinced that with the opening of our Lohana Centre building in South Harrow, we will have anopportunity to bring our community much closer by organising events that are suitable andbeneficial for all age groups.

The Dhamecha Lohana Centre opening is now scheduled for 29th June 2014. I am happy to saythat members will be given an opportunity to attend. All of us as Lohana’s should be very proudof this achievement. This has been possible with the dedication of many members inclusive of allLCF trustees, enthusiasm of Pradipbhai Dhamecha, Bhaveshbhai Radia, Vimalbhai Pau andAmratlalbhai Radia and Past Presidents, Pratibhaben Lakhani, Janubhai Kotecha, DeepakbhaiJatania and many more people; We are now reaching final stages of this project. I am thankful toall the donors, volunteers, well wishers, fund raising teams and all Lcnl operating committeemembers for the hard work put in for this project. Our builders, councillors, professionals, bankersand permanent trustees & donors will be appropriately acknowledged officially on the openingday.

We have already had our 1st EC meeting and have appointed new convenors. Our SecretaryDeeneshbhai Thakerar will report these in his report. I am positive that our new convenors andthe enthusiastic team members will organise religious, entertaining, social, business andinformative programs that will give our members a platform to socialise, educate and build up thecommunity spirit.

Our new Social Secretary, Vishal Sodha with the team managed to organise a successful HanumanJayanti on 19/4/2014.We are always thankful to all our sponsors, volunteers and the members forattending. We now have a specialist Natak team members being Deeneshbhai Shonchhatra,Pratibhaben Lakhani and Pushpaben Karia who with all other team members do an excellent job.

Vinubhai Kotecha, our bereavement chairperson together his team of volunteers provides anexcellent service to the community during the time of the need. I would like to thank the team forgiving this service to very many families when requested and many a times at a very short notice.

Deepakbhai Jatania is our new funding Chair person who has done great work on the fundcollection. Our Lohana Centre is opening soon but let’s not get too complacent as there is still asizeable fund requirement to fulfil our obligations .I want to take this opportunity urge to all theremaining members to join hands and show their generosity Our Lohana Centre is a communitycentre which belongs to all of us and it is a legacy for our future generation We have someinnovative schemes lined up for fund raising which will be communicated to the membership witha view of collecting our remaining fund requirement. In mean time if any of our ExecutiveCommittee members can be approached for donation inquiries and schemes.

Our new membership Secretary Ashokbhai Dattani has new ideas for increasing our membershipnumbers He will be communicating the services and the benefits of the membership. Let me justremind you that all members over the age of 18 need to have their own life membership. We allneed to encourage them and other non members to apply for the life membership.

Family guidance team provides match making services which the members find it very beneficial.Our convenors Dineshbhai Kotecha with Mansukhbhai Raichura and the team has many years ofexperience and have helped many families to find suitable partners.

Our honorary Secretary Deeneshbhai Thakerar together with our young, Assistant Secretary JeetRughani have already brought with them their professional business skills to the committee. I amconvinced that with their refreshing approach, we will become more efficient and enhance ouroverall profile to a professional level. Deeneshbhai is also our Constitution Chairperson who hasbeen given the task of making further updates as directed by the SGM to accomplish finalisationof our long awaited constitution.

We now have two young, IT professionals, Amit Chandarana and Sanjay Morzaria in our committee.They have been given the task of managing our website, and electronic communication and datamanagement together with Yatin Dawada, our Vice President. They are evaluating database of thecommunity with a view of having a secured online directory. Their initial report is very encouragingas this electronic database will be much faster, informative, efficient and cost effective and willserve the community for years to come. This project will be put in action soon, please assist themwith the missing data from the records we are currently holding.

Our sport convenor, Dhiru Savani is planning our annual, popular, Golf event very soon with theteam. Our main sponsors are Metro Bank and their founder Mr Vernon Hill will be joining us forthis golf event, this will add extra value to our members. Our Cricket tournaments and the leaguesare doing well. We intent to explore other sports like five aside football, cricket, etc and the inputfrom our YLS team will be very useful.

Our grand business and professional event is being finalised for September 2014. This event ishistorically well attended and popular amongst the Business and Professional members. We arenow looking to launch a new LCNL Professional networking event/seminar with a view of providinga platform to network, exchange views and ideas. Jeet Rughani and Reena Popat, our YlsChairperson has been given the task to launch this event soon.

I am very much looking forward to this year as it is going to be very interesting, exciting andchallenging. Finally, I thank you all for your continued support and wish you good health.

Secretary’s Report

I feel privileged for having been elected as the Secretary for this term. Ijoined LCNL one year ago and so pleased that my committee felt that I canaccomplish the tasks appended to this position. I have previously served asthe assistant secretary and this has given me a very good insight into theworkings of the committee.

I am doubly comforted further that I am working under the leadership of our very capablePresident Vinod Thakerar for the second year running (the first one when he was vice-President).

The AGM was held on 13 the April 2014 and was preceded by the SGM. During the latter discussiontook place on the adoption of the new Constitution a report on which I have provided separatelyin this bulletin. Both these meetings were well attended and participated by various members.Deepakbhai Jatania presided over both meetings and provided the necessary reports. At the SGMit was decided to postpone the final decision on the constitution for 90 days so that the comments,observations and amendments to be made can be considered and adopted by the Constitutioncommittee of which I was selected to remain as the convenor.

At the AGM the various officers and sub-committees chairpersons presented their reports for theyear 2013-14 which were all adopted. This year we carry the torch to conclude the refurbishmentplans for our building and plans for the way forward are being constantly made under the capablehands of Sri Amratlal Radia, Manish Sanghani and trustees of LCF.

Like last year elections took place for the post of Assistant Secretary, rest of the Committee waselected unopposed. The full list of the Executive Committee is printed in this bulletin togetherwith details of the Mahila, Senior Social Centre Men and Ladies committees, RCT, YLS and LCFrepresentatives on the LCNL Committee.

The 2013-14 committee considered alternative propositions for the formation and support of ayouth body and YLS was born under the leadership of our young and capable Solicitor ReenaPopat. They have kicked off successfully in their first few months of probation and their report.Their activities / events appear in this bulletin.

Since the AGM our first Executive committee meeting was held on 8th May 2014 chaired byVinodhai Thakrar when forthcoming programmes were discussed and planned. It was veryheartening to see a near to full attendance. Needless to say that by this time we had alreadyorganised and hosted 2 programmes namely Hanuman Chalisa and a Gujarati Drama. The balanceof the events and itinerary is contained in the list annexed.

We should continue to dedicate this year to the success of the LCNL building and other projects.Let us all reverberate the ethos of the recently elected Prime Minister of India Shri NarendrabhaiModi: “Actions speak louder than words”. I would like to urge all the members to give all thesupport they can in any form in order to further the name and image of our Community consistingof talented, professional and philanthropic people.

Fund Raising Committee Report

Firstly, I would like to thank our president Vinod Thakrar and the Executive Committee for theirtrust and support in raising finances for our new Community Hall.

I am extremely pleased to announce that the date for the opening of The Dhamecha Lohana Centrehas been set for 29th June 2014. I humbly request all Lohana Community North London membersto mark this date in the diary.

So far 400+ members have made valuable contributions towards the Centre and for this we aretruly grateful. Approximately 80% of the cost of the hall has already been collected via donationsand 20% remains outstanding.

Since April 2014, I am extremely proud to announce the following donations:- Mrs. Kantaben Chhaganlal Suchak: 800 Chairs (cost in excess of £15,000)- Mrs. Nimuben Dwarkadas Kotecha: £10,000

With your support we would like to have the Centre completely paid for before the opening, andfor that we need your help.

Report of Lohana Charitable Foundation (“LCF”)

We are pleased to confirm that the work at our building at Brember Road (“Lohana Centre”) is nowcoming to an end.

All floors have structurally been completed and awaiting finishing aspects although a lot of thathas also been completed. It is planned that the opening event will be on 29th June 2014. This willgive a chance to everyone to partake in the long-awaited success of LCNL in this regard.

As Deepak the fund-raising Chairperson has reported approx. 80% of the costs have been coveredand that we are still looking for the balance. We rely on well-wisher donors. Fund raising iscontinuing and we are pleased to report that many well-wishers and members of the communityare contributing and we now have a very small portion to do.

We will continuously update you on the progress and should anyone require any information withregard to the progress of the building, please do approach any of the committee members.

Social Secretary Report

Shree Hanuman Jayanti -19th April 2014

In continuation with our annual ritual Shree Hanuman Jayanti was celebrated on Saturday atOakington Manor Primary School Wembley HA9 6NF.

The 108 Hanuman Chalisa, recitation started at 10:30 am in presence of Pujya Rambapa who wasfull of zeal and energy. It was encouraging to see teenagers participating in the event. Theatmosphere was divine and electrifying lasting for more than 6 hours. It ended with Arti anddelicious Prashad for all the devotees present and everyone had a chance to offer ‘ladoos’ toHanumanji.

My sincere thanks to family members of the late Vrajlalbhai Goverdhandas Pau, Manubhai Radiaand family, a Lohana well-wisher for their continuous support. I would also like to thankReshmaben Thobani of La-Occasion for decorations, Rajnibhai Thakrar for the fruits and JignyasuSatsang Mandal for reciting Shree Hanuman Chalisa.

Gujarati Natak – “Pati Thayo ae Pati Gayo

On Bank Holiday Monday 5th May 2014 was slightly different for a select few sitting in WinstonChurchill Hall LCNL hosted a comedy Gujarati Natak “Pati Thayo ae Pati Gayo” organised under theconvenor ship of Dinesh Shonchhatra and Pratibhaben Lakhani. It was a sold out event. My specialthanks to our newly elected president Shree Vinodbhai Thakrar, all the EC, YLS, Mahila and Seniorladies Committees and all volunteers for their hard work, not forgetting Pankaj Sodha.

Janmashtami:

“Nand Gher Anand Bhayo Jay Kanaihya Lal Ki, Haathi Ghoda Palki Jay Kanaihya Lal Ki” –when wehear these lines our mind drifts away to “VRAJ” where thousands of year ago our beloved “Krishna”appeared on this earth in the form of “Bal Gopal” to liberate the souls. We will make you feel thatyou are in a modern day celebration of this divine activity.

The celebrations will be held on 17th August with pomp and ceremony and serving ofMahaprashad. I sincerely thank Shree Ketanbhai Ramniklal Kotecha, Shreemati Ditiben Kotecha,Sachin and Dharam Kotecha for being our regular manorathi for this event since last few years andcontinuing with this tradition.

Our next Natak takes place on 27th July 2014 at Watersmeet Theatre, Rickmansworth from 7 PMonwards.

Springtime is a wonderful time of the year for new beginnings. The month of Aprilmeans the start of the New Year for both, our LCNL and Mahila Mandal.Congratulations and Best Wishes to our new LCNL President elected, VinodbhaiThakrar, the new Executive Committee and the newly appointed members.

I am honored and humbled to be re-elected for this second year as the Mahila Chairpersonand truly look forward to continue to serve with the solidarity support of all our hardworking and dedicated Mahila Committee. My sincere gratitude to our entireCommittee of LCNL Lohana Senior Ladies and Men Centres, LCF, RCT and YLS fortheir extended help. It is once again a blessing to have the opportunity to get to knowthe valuable community in large.

Lohana Social Centre (Men)With the gradual improvement in the weather the regular attedance of members is now reachingto 85+ for three days a week.Our current regular membership is in excess of 100.

On 3 March 2014, following the Management Committee's unanimous decision,an appeal wasmade to our regular members to contribute our individual share towards the building of newLohana Community Hall with a view to showing our loyalty and solidarity to our motherorganisation.I am exremely pleased to report that LSC members have very generously donated inexcess of £13,000.

At present our in-house Table tennis and Pool Competition is in progress.In the month of June2014 Prize/TRophy presentation will be held to the winners.

On 15 June 2014 A Day's Picnic in South-End-On-Sea is planned for members and Spouses.

On 25 July 2014 a friendly 20 Overs Cricket match is planned at RCT Sports Ground between GrandDads and Grand Sons.

Our AGM/Annual Panchayat will be held on Wednesday the 16 July 2014 for the election of theManagement Committee for 2014/15.

LCNL - Sports ReportGolf- After a very successful event last year, we have again organised a golf event

which on this occasion will be attended by the owner of Metro Bank. Full details will be provided shortly.

Cricket- The season has started but the weather is not currently assisting us. We have league matches on a regular basis. We also have teams for ladies and youth’s. Matches are regularly taking place at RCT on Saturdays.

Family Guidance Sub Committee Report

The main purpose of this committee is to facilitate and assist our youths of marriageable age tofind a suitable Jivan Sathi commonly known life partner. We provide an updated database of theprospective matches and organise get together events to facilitate/help them to find suitablematches.

The full database with all candidates’ information is updated regularly by Mansukhbhai Raichura.Upon request the relevant list is e-mailed to the registered candidates. The events are well plannedto ensure that the appropriate ratio of boys/Girls is maintained. In recent past we have organisedevents in conjunction with National Council of the Vanic Association (NCVA), the Essex BrahmaSamaj and Jain Marriage Services. We intend to organise such a Joint event in September 2014

We are also in the process of organising a LOHANA ONLY speed dating event in November 2014and an approach will be made to all those who are registered with us and also those who attendedthe Joint Events.

We notice that as a result of these events and introductions a lot of networking is being doneduring and after the functions. The aim of the sub-committee is to create and maintain a databasefor introductions and prospective relationships leading to a happy healthy and prosperous life forour youngsters.

Our efforts in this matter are very sincere and we would like to enhance or widen the horizons toreflect the trend in facilitating an extended choice to those interested. The permanent teamMembers are Mansukhbhai Raichura, Vinod Thakrar, Dipak Jatania Dinesh Kotecha andPratibhaben Lakhani. At our recent EC Meeting has also further nominated Sandhyaben Gandecha(Mahila Chairperson) and Jeet Rughani to be part our team. As we now have a Young & Energeticteam of YLS we would seek 100% support from them in joining hands with us for this very worthycause.

I am most to grateful to Vinodbhai Thakrar, our President and the Executive Committee of LCNLfor my appointment as Membership Secretary at the last AGM in April 2014. I would like to thankKiritbhai Vithlani who had held the post prior to me.

I am pleased to see a continued increase of Membership which currently stands in excess of 2000and would encourage the Membership to promote LCNL to help increase our numbers. As a LifeMember we are part of the largest group of Lohanas outside India who have the same goals andenjoy true sense of belonging. Some of the membership benefits are listed below:

Report of the YLS

Following our probationary period during part of last year we have excelled in the activitiesand communication with our members and at the same time the main body. We have a verygood team which despite their professional commitments make a communal effort in respectof all the programmes.

As you may have noted the Speed dating, social events, Hanuman Chalisa and other functionshave gone very well and our efforts in this regard continue by cooperation with othersubcommittees of LCNL. I would remind everyone that we had a drinks event ‘YLS in the City’on 6th June at Pause Bar which was extremely successful and well attended. In addition, weare putting together a young Lohana professionals networking event. Further details can befound on our website www.ylsnl.com and our Facebook page.

As a lot of our members take interest in golf, i would recommend that we support the goftevent day as below and make contact with the relevant people. I would encourage all youngand upcoming professionals, businesspeople and others to join and become part of the YLS.

Report of the RCT

The RCT congratulates Vinodbhai Thakrar on becoming the President of the LCNL at the recentAGM. The RCT Board of Trustees also welcome Smt. Urmilaban Thakkar MBE as Trustee andwe look forward to working constructively together.

The Trust continues to improve the facilities that are available to the Community at RCTCentre. The roof leaks above the main dome in the entrance foyer have been repaired andthe foyer has been repainted.

At a Bhajans/Mehfil programme with a light meal beforehand, held on Saturday 3rd May 2014,designed to engage with the Patrons and potential new Patrons of the Trust, the RCT hascollected some funds for installing a defibrillator at the Centre. The Board felt this could be ofinvaluable use in the event of a cardiac arrest by any member of the public using the premises.A £10 donation was encouraged by each person attending the Programme. It is noteworthythat, in addition, a substantial individual donation was received from a very generousindividual to cover the total cost of the meal. We are very fortunate as a Community to havesuch individuals in our midst.
