Mystik Music Fest Report

The Concept

Mystik Music Fest is a collective 3-day festival that includes workshops, film

viewings, talks, and live music. ''The most beautiful thing we can experience is the

mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a

stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead:

his eyes are closed." Albert Einsteins quote perfectly describes the atmosphere of

innovation, thought, science, self-discovery that Mystik Music Fest cultivates itself from.

The term mystic |mistik|is defined as a person who seeks by contemplation and

self-surrender to obtain unity with or absorption into the Deity or the absolute, or who

believes in the spiritual apprehension of truths that are beyond the intellect. The

premise of Mystik Music fest is to be completely absorbed by your surroundings and

enable ideas and sounds to provoke thought beyond the normal. Through live music, art,

and workshops, Mystik hopes that one may find peace, wisdom, and harmony.

The main slogan of Mystik is Where sound meets the soul. Music can takeaway the harshest of pains and bring the back the happiest of memories. Mystik

Musicfest wants to take the festival-goer away from all that is the everyday life in a

unique festival experience unlike others.

One wristband Five venues. For the months preceding Mystik, participants will

receive a wristband once they purchase a ticket. The wristband allows participants to

enter each venue and come and go as they like. There are also premium-upgraded

wristbands that allow you free taxi rides from venue to venue, so that you do not miss

your next show. The wristband is essential to the festival as it keeps track of where you

have been and how many people that can be allowed in each venue. Another great

feature of the wristband, it is like a mini device. You can log back into

talk, film viewing, and more information on each subject area and who presented.

The main music venues include: Studio 24, Bongo Club, The Caves, Sneaky Petes,

and Potterrow. Mystik differs from the like, as it will be one of the first festivals to

feature live surround sound music with sit down seating. Mystik will team up with

Edinburghs Elektrikal Sound System to provide and deliver impeccable sound in a

comfortable and intimate listening environment. Dependent on performer there will be

subject to changes but many of the acts will be presented in surround sound.

During the evening and night music plays throughout the venues in Edinburgh,

while during the day the city will host workshops ranging from topics of science, film,

art, and spirituality. Some of the workshops consists as follows:

Workshops/Art/Talks

Psychedelic Science in the 21st Century -- Brian Wallace

In this talk, participants will learn about the global psychedelic research

renaissance, and how a program called MAPS has been navigating and overcoming the

cultural and political barriers that have that have kept scientists, clinicians, and potential

patients from understanding how the beneficial applications of these controversial

medicines. Attendees will get be able to look at MAPS clinical work, including

posttraumatic stress disorder, end-of-life-anxiety, addiction, and others. In addition,

basic principles of psychedelic harm reduction and benefit maximization will be

presented.

Sound Healing

Sound Healing and Sacred Geometry are some of the most powerful tools we

have. Participants will be able to learn how the framework of sacred geometry is applied

and experienced through sacred sound. Learn about different frequencies, ratios,

harmonics, energetics, directing sound, sending vocal frequencies through the inner

body, creating multiple tones at once through refracting sound and the infinite

possibilities beyond.

Reiki, Colour Therapy, Meridian Energy Balancing, Shamanic Massage,Clairvoyant Readings, Reflexology, and Free Workshops (including Belly Dance, Laughter

Workshops, tuition in Indian Head Massage and Head & Shoulder Massage, Guided

Journeys to Release your Creative Imagination and Self-Heal) Available all weekend,

taught by practitioners from all over Scotland. Some workshops may be subject to

additional charge of fees.

Im OK, You are OK Discussion on Transactional Analysis

Communication analysts will discussthe best selling novel, Im Ok Youre Ok,

written by the late Thomas A. Harris. There are three observable ego states: Parent,Adult, and Child. With these ego states, one can simplify and understand interpersonal

communication. Harris theories will be observed and exercises on improving

communication methods.

Cosmos and the Universe within Us Neil deGrasse Tyson

Soon to air in 2013,well-known astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, will be the

host of the sequel series of Cosmos. The goal is to make science accessible to all of the

public the story of how human beings began to comprehend the laws of nature and

find our place in space and time. Tyson will hold a Q&A.

The Branding

The branding for Mystik is simple with neutral colours of a night sky, sun.

Imagery of space, the universe, smoke, and gradients are seen throughout the visual

stimuli to invoke a sense of mysteriousness and loss of day-to-day reality. The brand

name itself is mysterious and funky with the misspelling of the word. Association with

the universe and deep colors is prevalent.

Our vision is to embrace innovative thought and allow people to be aware of

what is going around and within them. Our values are to hold true with what we know is

morally right, stay sustainable, share, all the while having the utmost fun and enjoying

good music. Mystiks personality is laid-back, groovy, tranquil, mind-stimulating, and

mystical.

The Audience

My target audience would range between a 20 - 40 year old age range. The

typical person you would likely see at this festival is a typical concert/festival-goer. They

have either come to escape with a set group of friends, up for something different, or

just plainly enjoy the music solely on their own.

My average attendee is passionate about music. This audience does not prefer

typical chart music, but seeks to discover new bands themselves. These people come to

seek an alternative choice than the mainstream. There is absolutely nothing wrong with

mainstream, but it is something that they like to steer clear of.

If I could attach my audience at certain pubs and clubs around Edinburgh this is

how I would classify them as.

People that enjoy going to events and clubs for the music:

Pubs with a niche and nice vibe:

Brass Monkey, Bar Kohl, Secret Arcade, Forest Caf

After going to pubs and clubs I also then realized my audience does not just start

and end there. A lot of the people I would like to reach out to dont often go out to big

clubs. You can find them at the hookah bar, cafes such as Treehouse Caf & Artisan

Roast, the Filmhouse, Cameo Cinema.

The Music

Unique to Mystik Music Fest and one of its selling points is that many of the

shows will be performed on a more intimate basis. In small venues, some with seating,

the crowd will be able to purely enjoy the sound and visual light in a cozy setting. A

majority of the live acts will also introduce surround sound with stereos spotting the

entire room. Sound engineers play a huge part in this festival, in line with one of the

core values of Mystik, which is science. The line-up includes artists such as Moby,

Gorillaz, Black Keys, Foster the People, Beck, Beats Antique, Caravan Palace, Flying

Lotus, Parov Stellar, Bonobo, Massive Attack, Fat Freddy's Drop, Groove Armada, The

XX, RJD2.
