Yet again the wheel turns & as one era in time & spaces closes another opens….A

monumental shift in human consciousness has occurred as more & more people awake and begin to question, who am I, what am I, what is my purpose in being here….there must be more. And this is due in no small part to the internet, the power to reach everyone everywhere & supply them with the availability of knowledge on any given subject. In the twenty first century there no excuse for ignorance as all knowledge can be found easily on the internet.

This time of festivities is an ideal time to reach out to the many who seek, not to get them to believe in any

particular system or way but to show them that there are many ways to enlightenment & each path is individual, we are there to show them the way to their own divinity by embracing all spiritual knowledge & giving that wisdom freely.

Welcome to issue thirty nine Winter Solstice, Yule, New Year

That said, I believe all life is a celebration not just a one off once a year event….a Magikal Mystery Tour & therefore should be treated as such. Why do we need an excuse to celebrate, to give gifts, to help and be kind to others, this should be a natural course of daily events…the very fact you have food, a home and all the gadgets that accompany it is a manifestation of Magik…you are indeed blessed & should share those blessings with others not matter who or what they are.

Make a special effort to be grateful each & every day…..see the magik in the everyday things normally taken for granted, bless and help others when you are able....treat the animals & birds as dear friends.

You dwell in an Enchanted realm, a land of Myth & Magik not the stress and turmoil ridden world that society, government and media have convinced you is real.

Many Blessings for a wonderful & enlightened time as we head towards another yearly cycle.

December 31st The Calendar New Year’s Eve….

As we approach 2015

A time celebrated in modern times according to the calendar as the end of the year, of course it also depends on which country you live in & which religion governs it. In the Old path tradition it is of course celebrated at Samhain the 31st of October. Whichever you follow or as most people do nowadays is follow both, always a good excuse for another party & celebration.

Also yet another time to take stock of the past years events & re en-force plans for the coming year. A good time to take a walk in nature and attune with mother earth’s natural energies, taking note of the stark beauty of the bare trees, the dead leaf’s that carpet the ground, the overcast & watery skies that show us nature rids itself of things that are no longer of use thus urging us to follow suit. This will set the scene & mood for a wonderful evening. Of course a wild party is also good for us as it is not only enjoyable but helps us get rid of the past years tensions & frustrations leaving us ready to face the next twelve months with a more positive outlook.

I recommend the nature walk & ritual first before the wild party as this will help keep you far more balanced throughout the evening. Whatev-er you do have a wonderful time & be blessed.

WINTER SOLSTICE ( Solar Festival ) 21st/22nd December

Of all the Festivals on the wheel of the year, Yule as it was called by the ancients brought the most anxiety and fear. The Sun appeared to have vanished, it was the longest night and the

shortest day, it was cold and bleak, the Earth lay dormant, it was a scary time as all were worried would they survive the long & cruel winter months. The crops were gathered in, the animals tethered in barns in preparation for the long winter nights. On the night of the 21st as the sun sank below the horizon they would prepare huge bonfires and prepare a great feast, the entire village would join in....Rituals were performed to honour to the Sun in the hope it would hasten it’s return. After the shortest day and the longest night at the darkest time....the Sun is reborn.....the waxing cycle of the Sun begins again.....the year begins. Much rejoicing and merry making...dancing....chanting....a time for feasting a time for giving, sharing, regeneration and rebirth. The entire population of the village would gather around a huge fire in the chief’s round house at the coldest & darkest part of the night to perform rituals asking for abundant crops in the coming year. They decorated their homes with Holly, Ivy & Mistletoe, red & green signified abundance...the white of the Mistletoe meant fertility. They would also spend much time remembering the ancestors and paying homage to them, truly a time for all to be together...the living and the dead.

Yule & Winter Solstice Magik Pomanders by Jenny Spirit

A great way to bring the healing power of nature in to your home in the winter is to make a pomander. The name pomander is derived from the French ‘Pomme d’ambre, which means apple of amber. Traditionally pomanders were or carried around in a vase as a protection against infection in times of pestilence or like perfume to mask bad smells! They were basically an early form of aromatherapy. Later they were used as a religious keepsake or even in recovery spells in witchcraft. The modern version of the pomander that we probably all recognise is made with an orange, cloves and ribbon. Additional ingredients can be added to help preserve the pomander for a very long time, but personally I like making one at the start of December every year. Piercing the flesh of the orange with cloves brings out an uplifting aroma – an antidote to the dark nights. I highly recommend making some as I do for myself and friends every year. Simple instructions on how to make one can be found at the following site: http://www.instructables.com/id/Pomander-ball-Christmas-gift/

happy making!

Preparing for Ritual CelebrationWinter Solstice, a Solar Festival

December 21st

The shortest day & the longest night in the northern hemisphere, a time that marks the gradual return of the Sun.

Yule as it was known to the ancients, a time of celebration…..A time to spend with friends & loved ones enjoying a feast beside a warm home fire, wine, song, laughter & ritual…..giving thanks for the past year, enjoying the fruits of your labours then making plans for the coming year, a new cycle.

Decorate your altar with the vibrant colours of red & green like holly and ivy, mistletoe for fertility…light many candles to represent the light, burn heavy incense like sandlewood, dragons blood. Make some pomanders (orange & cloves) these are ideal for cleansing in both the spiritual & physical sense. Before the ritual party go for a head clearing walk in the countryside spending some time admiring mother earth’s awesome beauty and powers.

Remember it is a very special time, not just for you but for all living creatures.

Blessings for a special celebration

To refresh everyone’s memory, project Avalon is about turning my courtyard into a Herb, Fruit &Vegetable Mystikal Haven, not only organic but planted & tended by the Moon phase’s as well as the Sun’s. Complemented by Rituals, Meditations, Music & Mantra…to be true to the ways of the Old Path.

Winter has arrived now replacing a wonderful summer, but even as I write

these words towards the middle of November it is still not yet that cold, therefore some of my herbs are still flourishing, especially the Sage (all three varieties) & the Rosemary….so there are now a great deal of beautiful smudge sticks….I combined a Sage & Rosemary to make one of the most aromatic incense I have ever smelt, a real woodland aroma that does indeed cause the senses to drift to the deep centre of the forest.

Another success came out of what at first appeared to be a disaster & that was with the outdoor Tomatoes. There were indeed several pounds in weight of them still green and not much chance of ripening……so with my wine making friend they were successfully turned into a wonderful spicy chutney, so next season I will set out to make sure there are plenty of green tomatoes.

So now the time has arrived to put the garden to bed for the winter & prepare for the party ritual season with a rather large amount of last year’s homemade wine to be tested along with another friend’s homemade beer bread & chutney….by a warm fire with friends.

There are so many rewards for growing & producing your own, the pleasure of planting, nurturing & gathering then producing and enjoying with the knowledge that all is organic with only your own and mother nature’s energies upon it….a magikal healing experience in all aspects.

Many Blessings to all for a truly Magikal Winter Solstice & Yule.

Celtic Moon Month Tree & Ritual

In Ancient Celtic Lore, Trees we considered as wise Teachers & were held in high regard by all the people. Each month & linking with the Moon a sacred tree was attributed…..

Trees are powerful magik & they have a great deal to teach us, make time to spend in their company daily or as much as you possibly can. Sit with your spine resting against its trunk & allow the energies to flow through you, feel the solid earth beneath you then let your being & thoughts blend with the tree….You will be amazed at the healing, grounding and clarity it bring.

From the 25th of November until the 23rd of December it is celebrated as the Elder Tree moon month.

From the 24th of December it is the turn of the Birch Tree moon month & from the 21st of January it is the Rowan Tree moon month.

MystikMaster

ELDER MOON (Now 25th November until the 23rd of December )

I step into the Month of the Elder Moon.

The Fire of the Year now is dimming –

The light and the flame almost gone.

I see patterns and shapes in the embers –

Wisdom and truth where they shone.

The dark glowing ashes are crumbling –

The Secrets of Time are revealed.

The Chains of the Past now are breaking,

The wounds they inflicted are healed.

No more light; it is ended; and then…

Reignited it burns once again.

Page 13: Mystik way magazine 39

13

BIRCH MOON ( 24th December until 20th January )

I step into the Month of the Birch Moon.

I walk into the arms of the dark and chill.

I rest and reach out to the fire.

The Cold Moon is clearing my mind of shadow.

I take forward only what I desire.

The unneeded past falls away, the burden is lifted.

The dark makes the fire shine brighter.

My soul is coloured flame red with power

The fire makes the sky seem lighter.

The future is unlocked with a key

And potential ignites within me.

ROWAN MOON (January 21st until 17th February )

I step into the Month of the Rowan Moon.

I cleanse my mind and soul,

I prepare the ground for seeds.

I feel life stirring within the soil,

I am ready to fulfil my needs.

The work ahead will shape the year,

My actions will lead to result.

My dreams will become reality,

In success my soul will exult.

I foresee a time when the seeds have grown,

And life is brighter than I have known.

Coming across the rarely-used word ‘Psithurism’ came at a perfect time. It is said to describe

‘the sound of the wind rustling through trees’, and is likened to whispering. I had written it down last year in my notebook, but rediscovered it soon after a walk in which, listening to that exact sound on a breezy October afternoon, I had an instinct about the nature of trees, and their language.

It occurred to me that I must have done the same walk well over a hundred times now. It’s a local walk, around a creek, where on a raised ridge, huge

trees are unfettered and open to a breeze that either comes in from or heads out to an expense of water. I wondered why I can do this same walk over and over again, and why, if I clear my mind and listen to the sound of the trees rustling, I always feel the benefits. This can be a powerful swelling of energy, replenishing any lost in the mundane, everyday world. It can be intense memories, so vivid that they take my breath away, and always in which the beauty of past moments and realisations is felt anew. It can be the solution to problems or dilemmas, or inspiration for writing, or simply a recipe that I suddenly realise I really want to make.

PSITHURISM :THE LANGUAGE OF TREES

by James Middleditch

The trees are coming into leaf

Like something almost being said;

The recent buds relax and spread,

Their greenness is a kind of grief.

Is it that they are born again

And we grow old? No. They die too,

Their yearly trick of looking new

Is written down in rings of grain.

Yet still the unresting castles thresh

In fullgrown thickness every May.

Last year is dead, they seem to say,

Begin afresh, afresh, afresh.

‘The Trees – Philip Larkin

Page 15: Mystik way magazine 39

15

Wondering about how the sound of the wind in the trees always provoked something deep and powerful, I listened to the leaves even harder. The breeze was strong that day, and the leaves were dry and crackly as they browned for autumn and prepared to loosen and drop. It occurred to me then and there that while I had listened to the same trees so many times before, the sound, the ‘psithurism’ on that day, was unique.

And so it is every time. Psithurism. One word. One tree. Infinite possible variations of sound when the wind moves through it. Time of year – texture and size of the leaves. Recent weather – are they wet or dry? Strength and direction of wind. Gentle, constant breeze, or sudden gusts? Considering all of these factors, I suddenly realised – I had never heard that sound before – not that precise, unique sound of those leaves on that particular afternoon.

So perhaps this is the language of trees. But what are they saying? The poet Philip Larkin hears the voice of the trees in their colour and size, as well as in their psithurism; perhaps the voice he hears is given a gender and an age by their physical attributes, while the sound of the leaves provides the words. In May he can hear them calling us forward into the future,

promising new beginnings and a release of the past, tying to the rituals and beliefs of Beltaine.

I think their message is different every time, just as the sound is different. It is the voice of the Present itself – not the past, or the future, but the exact Present moment, which we so often struggle to find and exist in. It has to be Present, because before or after, it will be different. No two moments or sounds can be the same.

And while through our language we have a certain number of words, or units of meaning, a vocabulary of perhaps thousands of words in our own tongue or others, they have an infinite number. Our language is imprecise to the meanings of our souls and the subtleties of our spirits. Theirs, in that present moment, says exactly what it needs to say.

Cynical people may say, ‘Don’t be stupid; how can a tree have a voice?’ I say it does, and it speaks when we choose to hear it. We may not be able to translate the words into our clumsy tongue, but we can trust that our soul understands it, receiving the messages it needs to move forwards on a bright Path, illuminating ourselves and others around us. I don’t know how or why it works. That is a gap I will call ‘mystery’, and be content with. I hear the sound, and that is enough.

Tree of Life

The ancient teachings of Cabala relate to Jewish Mysticism and the First Five Books of the Old

Testament, and explain an Esoteric Approach to Spirituality. Although these teachings originated in Judaism, its principle diagram – The Tree of Life – and its associated teachings, have now been integrated into the mainstream of the Western Mystery Tradition.

The Tree of Life is a diagram which attempts to explain the Nature of Creation (the macrocosm) and its relationship to humanity (the microcosm). In the ancient Hermetic teachings it is said the Macrocosm (Creation) is of the same essence as the Microcosm (Mankind), to form the maxim “As above, so below”. What we see in Creation is reflected in the life of Humanity on earth.

The Journey of Spirit into Matter (Descending on the Planes) The Calabists saw Creation as a series of emanations of different aspects of the Divine Nature – starting with Spirit and ending in matter and the Physical World. These emanations are shown on The Tree of Life as different Spiritual Spheres (Sephiroth), each proceeding from the other as Divine energy progressively descends into matter. As the energy descends, it passes through Four Levels of Manifestation (called Worlds) starting at the level of Spirit and ending at the level of the Physical World.

The source of creation in Cabala is known as

the Unmanifest (shown midnight-blue in the picture) which is the unknowable face of God, and the ultimate source of every aspect of Creation. Symbolically, I envisage the Unmanifest as the Womb of the Great Mother, giving birth to creation, which contains in embryonic form the essence of female spirituality (the Ain), the essence of male spirituality (the Ain Soph) and the synthesis of the two – the Holy Child (the Ain Soph Aur) which contains both genders. It is through these Three Veils that the power of the Unmanifest expresses itself in Creation, and takes form in the World and Human Consciousness.

The Upper Tree The highest World of The Tree of Life is the Spiritual World (coloured Pink in the picture) which contains the First Three Spheres of Manifestation. The First Sphere (Keter) is that of Pure Spirit – the highest divine force, which is without gender but which contains the essence of both. This sphere is sometimes represented in Cabala by the face of an Elderly Male (the Ancient of Days) as the outer face which conceals the inner female face of God – the Shekinah). This level of spirituality is normally beyond the reach of Humanity, and is only perceived by its expression in other spheres, as to embrace this sphere fully would result in Final Union with the Divine, which some see as the ultimate aim of Spiritual Progress. This sphere is coloured Grey with a Yellow Seven-Pointed Star, within which is situated the symbol of the Tao, representing the synthesis of

INTRODUCING THE CABALA AND THE TREE OF LIFE – RICHARD HAYES

I prepared the following article to accompany a workshop I gave recently on the Tree of Life. I suggest that you treat them as study notes, and relate each section of the text to the Two Pictures which elaborate the main points covered.

male and female energy (Yang & Yin).

The Second Sphere (Hokmar) is the male aspect of Divinity, the Home of the Gods, which now expresses itself in human terms in a Male God Form, and represents all the Gods worshipped by humanity through the Ages. This sphere is coloured White, and shows a male figure dressed in Red with Golden Hair.

The Third Sphere (Binar) is the female aspect of Divinity, the Home of the Goddess, which expresses itself as a Female God Form, and represents all the Goddesses worshipped through the Ages. This sphere is coloured Black, and contains a female figure dressed in Blue with Brown Hair.

These Three Spheres form the Spiritual (Supernal) Triangle and relate to the World of Spirit and our own Spirituality, and when The Tree of Life is superimposed on the Human Body, they are situated around the head and relate to our Spiritual Aura.

The Abyss

The Upper Tree of Spirit is separated from the Lower Tree of Human Existence by the Abyss (coloured Grey in the picture) with the mysterious Sphere of Darth at its centre, through which the Lower Tree is born. The Abyss can only be crossed by Humanity in Spirit Consciousness, as the higher realms of the Tree are inaccessible to normal human consciousness.

The Middle Tree Below the Abyss is the mental world of Higher Ethical Values, which is only reached by those who pursue an extensive course of Spiritual Development. It contains three further spheres.

The Fourth Sphere of Hesed is represented by the word Mercy, and is shown as a Blue Sphere with the Egyptian Crook of Compassion as its symbol. It is the highest sphere of Female Human Consciousness, and heads the Female Right-hand side of the Tree, which has been seeded by the female Goddess at Binar. Here are the values of the Just Queen, who brings compassion and understanding to ethical judgements.

The Fifth Sphere of Geburar is represented by the word Severity, and is shown as a Red Sphere with the Egyptian Flail of Discipline as its symbol. It is the highest sphere of Male Human Consciousness,

and heads the male Left-hand side of the Tree, which has been seeded by the male God at Hokmar. Here is the authority of the Just King, wielding discipline and censure in ethical matters. In Egyptian Mythology, the Pharoah is shown holding the Crook and Flail across his breast, to demonstrate that he is a fair judge of humanity.

The Sixth Sphere at the centre of the Tree is Tifaret, the sphere of Human Spirituality, which embraces both the spirit of the Upper Tree and the material existence of the Lower Tree, and is often depicted by the Six-pointed Star. This is the sphere of Spiritual Harmony, which embraces the ethical values of Hesed and Geburar. This sphere is situated directly below Keter (Pure Spirit) on the Central Pillar of Mysticism, and is the channel through which Divinity can flow directly to Humanity. In the picture, this sphere is coloured Orange, encompassing a Red Triangle representing the element of Fire, with the symbol of the Sun at its centre.

These three spheres form the Ethical Triangle, and relate to the Mental (Soul) level of Creation, co-loured yellow in the picture, which also relates to the mental aspect of our Aura, and they are shown situat-ed on the Human Body at the level of the shoulders, with Tifaret in the heart centre.

Below this level of the Tree, is the Veil of Par-aket, shown as a Green Line in the picture, which sep-arates normal Human Consciousness from Spiritual Consciousness.

The Lower Tree The Lower Four Spheres of the Tree of Life relate to normal Physical Existence. Sphere Seven (Netzak) is the Female Sphere of Womanhood and Nature. It is represented by the Arts and is related to our Intuition and Feelings. It is ruled by the Planet of Love – Venus, and is coloured Green with a Green Triangle depicting the element of Earth at its centre. This sphere is represented by the Priestess, and is the lower vibration of the female sphere of Hesed.

Sphere Eight (Hod) is the Male Sphere of Manhood and Mental Action, which is represented by the Sciences, and relates to our Intellect and Thinking. It is ruled by the Planet of Communication – Mercury, and is coloured Yellow with a Yellow Triangle depicting the element Air at its centre. This sphere is represented by the Prince, and is the lower

vibration of the male sphere of Geburar.

Sphere Nine (Yesod) is the sphere of Psychic Perception, and is called the Foundation, as all the powers of The Tree are channeled through it into the Material world at Malkut. It is shown as a purple sphere which contains a Blue triangle representing the element of Water, and has the Moon depicted at its centre. This sphere is often represented by a Five-pointed Star – the Pentagram, the symbol of Humanity.

These three spheres form the Astral Triangle, and relate to the Astral (Emotional) level of Creation, coloured Blue in the picture, and relate to the emotional level of our Aura, and are situated at the level of our hips and genitalia.

The Physical World Directly below Yesod is the Tenth Sphere of Malkut which represents the Physical World, and is shown divided into the four quarters of the Elements, coloured Red, Blue Yellow & Green, linking the spheres of the Tree to Mother Earth and the Material World.

The description of the Tree of Life so far shows Divine Spirit descending into Matter, and is called spiritually (Descending on the Planes), and is the path pursued by Spirit as it descends into matter and is the path that the Human Monad (Spirit) takes on its passage to be born in the Human Body.

The Spiritual Evolution of Humanity (Ascending on the Planes) In the diagram of the Tree of Life, the spheres of the Tree are linked by various Paths of Spiritual Development. The Spheres are the objective aspects of Spiritual Development, and the Paths are the subjective aspects, and the energies of both are used as we develop our spirituality by climbing up the tree. Each path has its own energy and relates to its own Colour, Archangel, Hebrew letter, Tarot Card and many other Symbols. We make progress in our Spiritual Development by reflecting on these Path Symbols by Meditation and by Path Working using guided visualizations.

Our journey begins as ordinary human beings

on earth in the Sphere of Malkut. At this level we are limited by our earthly consciousness, and we begin our journey up the Tree of Life to develop our personality, character and awareness, which will eventually lead us to Spiritual Development and Fulfillment. This is called Rising Up the Planes (the Worlds of the Cabalists).

The Tree of Life is arranged in Three Columns, the Left-hand Column of male expression which is crowned by the female sphere of Binar, the Right-hand Column of female expression which is crowned by the male sphere of Hokmar, and the Central Column of Spiritual Development which begins in the earthly sphere of Malkut and ends in the Divine Sphere of Keter.

The Left-hand Path of Male Consciousness The Aspirant, on leaving the physical world at the sphere of Malkut, takes the Left-hand 1st Path to Hod. This is the path associated with Male Consciousness and celebrates the Power of the Mind and the Human Intellect. It is the path of Learning and Science, and the Aspirant makes sense of the world by using their ability to think through problems. This path leads to the Eighth Sphere of Hod which is the abode of the Prince, and represents the level of the Tree of Life reached by the normal male on earth.

On leaving Hod to start the climb up the Left-hand Column, the male has to embrace the 8th path to Geburar, which is ruled by the Emperor of the Tarot, and they must become the confident male who has control over their life. At Geburar they embrace the higher values of the Just King, and in so doing become the confident male leader who can take responsibility for themselves and society.

At this level they have embraced their male character to the full, and if they wish to continue their progress up the Tree, they must cross the Abyss and let their male consciousness be broken down to embrace the female powers of the Goddess at Binar. In so doing, they become the complete person who embraces both male and female consciousness, and who can reflect both of these energies in the pattern of their life on earth.

Page 21: Mystik way magazine 39

21

The Right-hand Path of Female Consciousness This time, the Aspirant, on leaving the material world of Malkut, takes the Right-hand 3rd Path to Netzak. This is the path associated with Female Consciousness, and celebrates Human Feelings and the Power of Intuition. It is the Path of Creativity and the Arts, and the Aspirant uses their Inner Wisdom to make sense of the world. This path leads to the Seventh Sphere of Netzak, which is the abode of the Princess, and is the level of the Tree reached by the normal female on earth.

On leaving Netzak to start the climb up the Right-hand Column, the normal female has to embrace the 11th Path to Hesed, which is ruled by the Empress of the Tarot, and they must become the confident female who has control over their life. At Hesed they embrace the higher values of the Compassionate Queen, and in so doing become the confident female leader who has control over themselves and society.

At this level they have embraced their female character to the full, and if they wish to continue their progress up the Tree, they must Cross the Abyss and let their female consciousness be broken down to embrace the male powers of the God at Hokmar.

The Central Path of Mysticism and Spiritual Development The Aspirant who is interested in Spiritual Development takes the 2nd Central Path from Malkut to Yesod. This path, which is ruled by the Tarot Card of the Moon is the Path of Psychic Development. Here they learn the skills that enable them to work with Spirit and build the foundation for their future spiritual progress.

Having reached Yesod, and having acquired psychic skills, they have a choice of either turning to the left side of the Tree – taking the 4th Path from Yesod to Hod (The Path of the High Priest) and develop their Male Spirituality and the Powers of Ceremonial Magic, or they can turn to the right side of the Tree and take the 6th Path from Yesed to Netzak (The Path of the High Priestess) and develop their Female Spirituality and the Powers of Natural Magic.

The Alternative path is the Central 5th Path from Yesod to Tifaret, which is taken by those

Aspirants committed to Spiritual Growth rather than Psychic Development. This path, ruled by the Tarot Card of the Sun is dedicated to Spiritual Progress, and leads on to Tifaret, the Sphere which links them directly to the Spiritual Energies of the Upper Tree.

At Tifaret, they can expand their spirituality by exploring the Four Elemental Paths which radiate from Tifaret to the male spheres of Hod and Geburar, and the female spheres of Netzak and Hesed.

At the level of Tifaret, they begin their ascent across the Abyss to obtain Spiritual Fulfillment. They can either take the left-hand 16th Path to embrace the Goddess-centered female powers of Binar, or the right-hand 18th Path to embrace the God–centered male powers of Hokmar. The Central 17th Path which leads them directly up the Tree takes them from Tifaret to Keter. This path, which is ruled by the Star Card, is the Path of Mysticism and eventual Union with the Divine, and is the path travelled by all Mystics. Ascent of the central path leads us through the mysterious sphere of Darth, situated at the centre of the Abyss, and this sphere is the source of all Spiritual Power and Knowledge.

Above Darth, they enter the Spiritual (Supernal) Triangle, and embrace directly the Powers of the Gods. This can only be done in Spiritual Consciousness by the Aspirant who has spent many years in Spiritual Development, and who is now prepared to embrace the full power of the Divine Force.

Horizontal Paths of Equilibrium At each level of the Tree, the spheres of each Triangle are linked by a lateral path which balances the spiritual forces encountered on both the male and female sides of the Tree. Above the physical world of Malkut is the Astral (Emotional) World of the Lower Tree, which is the home of ordinary human beings. The lateral 7th Path at this level links Hod to Netzak and is ruled by the Tarot Card of the Wheel of Fortune. At this level, the world is governed by forces outside human control, and is subject to Fate and Fortune.

At the Mental (Soul) level, the complementary spheres of Geburar and Hesed are linked by the 14th Path, which is ruled by the Tarot Card of Justice. At this level, the Aspirant has a say in his destiny, and his

Page 22: Mystik way magazine 39

22 | MYSTIK WAY MAGAZINE

life is subject to Karma and Just Spiritual Law.

At the level of the Spiritual (Supernal) Triangle, the Goddess-centre of Binar is blended with the God-centre of Hokmar, to form the lateral 20th Path of Spiritual Equilibrium. This path if ruled by the World Card, which represents the Evolved Human Being, who has balance the conflicting constraints of a spiritual and physical existence, to become the Evolved Adept (Spiritual Master).

A Wise Student explores all the Paths of the Tree of Life, and in so doing lifts his Human Consciousness to Divine Consciousness and integrates all aspects of Spiritual Progress, and in so doing links male and female energy into one unified whole, represented by the Tao at Keter.

It is said that every aspect of life can be related to the Tree of Life, and its teachings can provide a framework for a comprehensive pattern of Spiritual Growth and Development. This leads us from the limitations of normal Human Consciousness to spiritual expansion and Divine Consciousness. It can help the Aspirant to become an Evolved Human Being within which their Spirit can develop to its full potential.

I first fell in love with the moon when I was a little girl. I used to spend evenings in bed staring at

her watchful eye. She always seemed so magical so amazing and I found comfort in her beauty. As time went on and I grew my moon disappeared she became forgotten she was just a white circle in the sky that the Americans claimed to own by landing the first man on the moon.

I spent 14 years of my life from the age of 20 in 2 abusive relationships. This cycle of my life ended in 2010 and it was then that I found my sister moon again. She brought me comfort and strength and I started to take an interest in White magic and Ava-lon.

Since the earliest of times our ancestors have ac-knowledged the moon. The moon has the power to move the great oceans of the world and she applies a profound influence on the lives of all things. The ancients where so attuned to the moon that their calendars were based around the cycles of the moon with 13 “months”

Moon magic is a powerful way of linking to our ancients and Avalonian tradition. If we move with her cycles and different phases it can have a potent effect on spells and magic and our very being. Just as we charge and cleanse crystals in the moonlight it is beneficial to cleanse and charge ourselves also in

this way. You could use all the phases of the moon to charge and cleanse or just focus on the full moon. It’s entirely up to you there are no rights or wrongs. It’s about what you feel comfortable with and how much time you have. Go with what sits best in your heart.

Firstly I am going to discuss the different phases of the moon and their meanings I will start with the 5 main phases of the moon and in further articles will cover the other moon phases and moon magic :

Dark MoonThis is the time when the moon is no longer visible to the naked eye. This is the most useful time for Divination of any kind.

The New MoonThis is when the moon shows her first slither in the sky, it is a thin crescent moon and this is an excep-tional time to do spell workings for new beginnings and the start of new projects. It is also a powerful time to make wishes (but like Ed mystic master has taught me for years “be careful what you wish for as you just might get it”)

Esbats and Moon Magic introduction.

By Kirsty Merida Mellor

Page 25: Mystik way magazine 39

25

Waxing MoonThis is the time when the moon is growing towards the full moon. This is an appropriate time to cast spells for growth healing and an increase of energy. Its time to focus your energy on what qualities you want in your life.

The Full MoonThis is the time when the moon is at her proudest shining and filling the sky with her beauty. The day of the full moon and a day either side is a good time to do strong spell workings. It is a time for abun-dance, fulfilment culmination and climax.

Waning moonThis is when the moon is shrinking back down to-wards the dark moon. It is the best time for cleansing banishing and completion.

There are 8 Sabbets that make up the wheel of the year they are Samhain, Yule, Imbolc, Ostara, Bel-taine, Litha, Lughnasda and Mabon. Sabbets are solar the celebration of the Gods and of the mascu-line energies. These special seasonal celebrations are celebrated by Pagans Wiccans Avalonians and white magic practioners worldwide.

In between the Sabets many folk who practice White Magic celebrate Esbats. The Esbats are the celebra-tion of the 13 full moons that occur every year. The Esbats are Lunar and represent the Goddess and Feminine energies. The full moon represents the Goddess at her full power. These are the times when the moons magic is at her height of power than on any other day of the month.

More and more people are becoming aware that the moon has a massive influence on our everyday life. The ever-changing rhythm of the moon affects our emotions our actions and behaviour.

In my next article I will discuss moon magic further and share some rituals with you.

I hope you have enjoyed this topic so far. The next time you stare at the moon see her beauty, feel her love and see the secret potentials she holds for you.

ASTROLOGICAL SIGN OF THE MONTH

Capricorn (22nd December – 20th January)

Capricorn is a receptive, cardinal earth sign. As a

cardinal sign it is one of action and initiation, which starts ventures. In the element of earth it becomes practical, interested in material things, working in a systematic way, with an interest in nature and the home comforts of life.

The symbol associated with Capricorn is the Goat, with its stubborn nature, determined to climb the mountain to reach the top. It does so by taking confident, careful steps and plans its route in a considered way. It is this careful strategic planning which is why this sign is called the chess-player of the zodiac, and Capricorns are often very good at business.

Capricorns can be industrious, ambitious, organized, responsible and practical, but they can also be pessimistic, selfish and prone to

Page 27: Mystik way magazine 39

27

depression. They are the businessmen of the zodiac and take life seriously, and are driven by ambition and worldly success.

The planet which rules Capricorn is Saturn, which is the planet of restriction and serious thought. Saturn is the teacher of the zodiac, and identifies areas where we have to learn lessons. Capricorns can be serious and feel challenged by the events of their life, and at times can become pessimistic or depressed. The influence of Saturn however, encourages them to study, work hard and strive for a better life.

Capricorn also rules the Tenth House of career and public image, and Capricorns must have a purpose in life and seek to find fulfillment in the career that they choose. They strive to be respected in society, and often make a contribution to public life.

Capricorns will find it easy to relate to the other earth signs (Taurus & Virgo) who have a similar practical attitude to life. They will however be challenged by the emotional, intuitive nature of the water signs, particularly Cancer – their opposite sign.

In the family of the zodiac, Capricorns are hard working, keen for success, and prone to take life seriously, but they make reliable friends and business partners. They need the security of material comforts money can buy, and they plan their lives carefully in pursuit of definite ambitions, in order to provide a secure life for themselves and their loved ones.

The Keyword for Capricorn is Attainment.

Work gives the opportunity for a soul to achieve occupation of their mind and

hands, and create something useful or beautiful to enhance the lives of others. This may be in your dwelling place, where the simple tasks of cooking and cleaning take place to nurture the family, or create conducive surroundings in which to live.

Others may work outside their home, on their own or for someone else. Whatever the task, it will be to enhance the lives of others, individually or in the community, even nationally or worldwide. Whatever the work is, it occupies the mind, the hands and sometimes even the heart – should this be caring for others.

It is important to have occupation, whether it is paid or voluntary or the everyday work for your home or family. Work requires focus to get the job done, sometimes

dedication and application, and brings a sense of achievement, a pride in the self, and only sometimes other gains like monetary payment. In this way, each feels part of all humanity, perhaps like a tiny cog in the unfolding mechanics of the universe.

Once recognition has been gained of the spiritual aspect of life, each also has a part to play in putting into action the love of the Divine energy, of being of service to others, by helping, caring and teaching that earth life is only part of the spiritual evolution of the soul. It is by working in harmony with those who guide and help you from the spirit realms, that you can be the channel for love, light and knowledge to those on earth, participating in creating a world of love and harmony on earth. Take pride in all you do and achieve towards this end.

As a Spiritualist Medium, I channel inspired writings dictated to me from the Spirit World, usually in the form of Spiritual Guidance.

Tarot Reading – Part 2THIRD QUARTER – 18th February – 18th April

FEBRUARY – Card SUN – This is a good card to draw for the beginning of the next six months as it will bring success, and this month you will achieve many of your goals. It is a time to be your true self, and act with confidence and certainty.

MARCH – Card EMPEROR – This card continues the good fortune of last month, and you should take full opportunity to put past set-backs behind you and tackle the future with enthusiasm.

APRIL – Card TOWER – Make the best of the first months of the new year, as during this month difficulties will arise. Your secure pattern may be

broken down, and this is a time for inner reflection in order to plan the best way forward.

SUMMARY – Generally a good Quarter, but it will end with some unavoidable disruption, which you will have to make allowance for.

FOURTH QUARTER – 18th May – 18th July

MAY – Card JUDGMENT – This card continues the theme of last month, and you may have to reassess your situation and make adjustments before you can proceed. You will need your inner strength if you are to cope with these challenges.

JUNE – Card EMPRESS – At last there is some relief, and you can move forward again. It is a time to explore the spiritual nature of the Goddess and link with the natural world to regain your composure.

In the last edition of the magazine I outlined the procedure for drawing a thirteen-card Birthday Spread, outlining the possible influences for the next year. I described how to lay out the spread and interpret the first six months of the next year – from 18th August 2014 to 18th January 2015 (my birthday being the 18th August!)

In this edition I will interpret the cards previously drawn for the second six months, and the meaning and implication of the 13th Card, which shows the general pattern for the year.

Part 2

Page 31: Mystik way magazine 39

31

JULY – Card WORLD – The final month of this year of your life brings success in all things. It is a time to reflect on your physical life and your spiritual life, prior to celebrating your birthday (18th August 2015) and beginning a new year of your life.

SUMMARY – Things improve this Quarter, and you will end the year on a high note.

KEY CARD – HIGH PRIEST – This card represents your commitment to spiritual teaching, and this year of your life will bring fulfillment in that direction. You must use your spiritual awareness and knowledge to overcome any obstacles that may be placed in your way. (A good outcome!)

Fear, My friendI the shadows I standI stay there waiting

Hopeless, frightenedWaiting for someone to lend me a hand

I want someone to take awayThese thoughts and feelingsThey plague me every day

I ask myselfWhen did fear become my best friend?

I slowly realise we developed a relationshipA long time ago

I thought it would never end

So I delved in to my subconsciousLooked for the answers there

But all I found were my lingering monstersThis just wasn’t fair!

How do I get rid of fearI just want it to go

I really don’t need itIt’s holding me backMaking me feel low

In the ether I find folkWho’d already been down this dark roadI thought they might provide the ‘Eureka’

To this burden this load

After years of searching and hopingI realised, with help, in the end

Fear was not my enemyHe was actually my friend

I reached outWe walked together for a while

Fear tried to knock me down againI just carried on with a smile

I used questioning and logicWhen he tried to attack

I mostly stopped himBut sometimes he came back

I kept working with my shadowMy fear, my nemesis

Until one day he left meNow I’m left to eternal bliss

I wrote this poem with a view to expressing how I feel about the journey I have been on with fear

over a number of years. Fear and its meaning are different to each of us, but I wanted to write about how fear, or in my case anxiety and panic, can take over you and how it can make you feel, and the seemingly endless search for a solution to the ongoing problems it can cause.

For some fear, panic and anxiety can become so much that they start to fear, fear itself i.e. how it makes you feel. People search for answers and help anywhere they can find it, be it from the medical profession, on the internet, through meditation or exercise etc. All these things can help, but the one component missing is the link of the mind – which I believe you need to use logically to challenge fear and start working with it. I would say what has really helped me in recent times is to identify my specific thoughts/fears and dispute whether they are even real…what is the worst that could happen?…where is my factual evidence for this? Whilst actually going out and systematically, gradually facing my fears. This is easier said than done, and although logic strongly applies, it is definitley a spiritual journey that I would recommend (with help) going on.

INTERVIEW

At the start of this year, The Mystik Way Magazine ran an article suggesting ways of learning to read the Tarot. At the end of the process of learning, it was suggested that creating your very own Tarot deck was the ideal way to master and evolve your skills. J.r. Rivera has not only created his own deck in collaboration with the artist Jasmine Becket-Griffith, but will be sharing it with the world imminently when it is published in December 2014. Its success in pre-order charts is testament to its potential and the immediately engaging design. As we now reach the month of publication, J.r. tells us more about the creation of the deck, and the unique properties it will embody…

6) How did you develop the artistic partnership needed to create a Tarot deck? I’ve always been a fan of Jasmine Becket-Griffith’s artwork, ever since I worked with her two oracle decks, Oracle of the Shadows and Light and Oracle of the Shapeshifters. The idea of creating a tarot deck with her marvelous and sublime illustrations picked and rattled my brain. I mustered the courage to ask her if we could create a tarot deck and she agreed. From there on, we worked together every step of the way, one step at a time. She was and is a

fantastic and courteous person to work with and to trust and letting me work with her artwork which is her legacy, love and life - that just tells you all about her.

7) Did you encounter any difficulties along the way? Oh yes I did! If I was to retell the difficulties I experienced along the way I would NOT know where to begin! The labor of love that I endured for this tarot deck did not make think or feel overworked. But let’s just say that the difficulties involved for creating the Beautiful Creatures Tarot were losing the first written companion booklet and having to re-write 60% of it from scratch and having to replace several images numerous of times because the images that I intended to use could not be used for various reasons. And I wonder how I still managed keep my sanity!

8) What do you think distinguishes your deck from the others that are around? My Beautiful Creatures Tarot is a “universal” deck. It is meant to be appropriate and subtle for everybody, regardless of age, sex, gender, race, and beliefs. The images are just so beautiful and speak

The Tarot - From idea to reality

Part Two of an interview with J.r. Rivera, author of the forthcoming Beautiful Creatures Tarot Deck

by James Middleditch

Page 35: Mystik way magazine 39

35

to the person using this tarot deck. The meanings for the cards which I wrote are very direct and are not sugar coated.

9) In pre-orders, your deck has already done very well even before its release - how has this felt for you? Honestly, it is overwhelming! I never expected for it to sky rocket on top of the charts, let alone sky rocket and breakthrough in other parts of the world. I didn’t think this was going to happen, having it highly anticipated way before its release date. All I can do is thank everyone who was pre-ordered it. Despite the people’s anticipation for this tarot deck, all I hope and wish for is that they LOVE working with it as much as Jasmine and I enjoyed writing and putting it together.

10) I’ve heard rumours of a second project - is there anything you can tell us about this? Oh yes! There is a second tarot deck in works. This tarot deck is something that I’ve ALWAYS wanted to do and I finally got the chance to do it. I can’t say or give too much away since my second tarot deck is still in the middle stages of production. What I can say is that my second tarot deck is not a “part two” to my Beautiful Creatures Tarot. My second tarot deck takes a whole different journey and each card tells its own story. It may be a bit too much for sensitive readers, but nonetheless, each image has a deeper meaning to it and it is left in the open for interpretation. Also, my second tarot deck will be ideal to work with in one particular holiday of the year which we all LOVE and anticipate…

You can order the Beautiful Creatures Tarot deck on Amazon, and follow J.r. on Facebook to find out more. This concludes our interview, for now… I would guess that we will hear much more from J.r in the years to come.

Intuitive Guidance

December 2014: Stuck in Overwhelm?

If your current reality is a never ending cycle of feeling stuck; wishing for more hours in every day to get through your to do list; pushing yourself harder and harder to do more, be more, have more, only to fall in bed exhausted and repeat the same cycle the next day, although never quite achieving your goals – you are out of the flow and stuck in overwhelm.

The problem with overwhelm is that we become frustrated, distracted, scattered, disconnected from our intuition, feel alone in the world, try to control every-thing and every-body around us (because WE feel so out of control), seek advice from external sources, often people who aren’t in alignment with our own values and as we get

older, cant spring back from endless hard work – sound familiar?

So, how do we get unstuck? The solution to being stuck in overwhelm is to be clear on what we really want, clear the blocks and then follow a clear step by step strategy on how to achieve it.

These point-by-point steps are the key:

1. Realize you are stuck in overwhelm – once you have this awareness, half the work is already done. Overwhelm is a state of mind that you can change as soon as you realize you are in it.

by Peta Panos

Do you dream about being in the flow of life? Trusting your intuition; making decisions with clarity; being in total alignment with your val-ues; effortlessly and graciously moving through life where things just fall into place magically.

Animal Totem with Jennifer Adele

Animal Totem for Yule & New Year

CaribouCaribou is considered a type of reindeer and is native to North America. This includes both resident and migratory populations. While overall widespread and numerous, some of its subspecies are rare and at least one has already gone extinct. These animals are quite iconic, and almost everyone will see an example of this beautiful creature at some point... if only on TV.

In addition to all the strength that the caribou naturally brings, it also teaches the ability to adapt as the environment around him changes. The caribou can show one how to take on the roles of duality as well... the male and female qualities that you innately possess. Caribou has also been thought by many cultures to aid in spiritual transitions, communication, and social abilities and skills as an animal spirit guide. The caribou sets the pace, and that pace is to keep moving onward and flowing with the group. Caribou, secondarily, is about movement and finding your inner peace and your place as you walk through life.

As you contemplate the caribou this month, ask yourself these questions... Is it time to take a more dominating role in life and work or perhaps a softer stance in situations revolving around a group? Am I committed to the course of action that is most dominant in my life right now, and I do have the fortitude to continue on even if it is tough?

Symbology: endurance, strength, fortitude, perseverance, adaptability to surroundings, caution.

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your nose…oh I LOVE this

time of the year and I revert to being a complete child…

It is an absolute excuse for me to go into total cheesy festive decorating mode and of course baking lots of goodies, writing cards and wrapping presents…I really should have been Mrs Claus or should that be the Holly Queen?

So much of December and the Winter Solstice has been taken over with commercialism sometimes it is hard to escape from it, but I like to focus on the theme of Yule as being a chance to reconnect with friends and spend time with family.

No matter where you live, whether it is in the middle of a snow covered field surrounded by beautiful bare trees or whether you live in the middle of a city with the odd tree on the side of the road you can still feel the magic in the air. The crisp cold mornings, the crunch of frost

under foot and that silent feel that surrounds us, the earth is hibernating, waiting patiently to spring forth once again.

At the point of winter solstice the darkness reaches its height and as the wheel turns the sun begins to return, the days very slowly becoming longer. Winter is a time to drawn inwards and reflect, to look back at the months that have passed before and to plan for the coming year.

The Holly King battles once more leaving behind the waning part of the year and gives way to the Oak King to rule the waxing months, a reminder that we are in a cycle and that rebirth must be preceded by death.

Yule is a time to celebrate with your friends and family and a good excuse to stuff yourself with mince pies, puddings, mulled wine and dried fruits…and chocolate … and cake…

Magical energies at this time of the year are good for honouring family and friends, finding peace, personal renewal and an excellent time for meditation and dream work.

For decorating your altar I like to use lots of candles in reds, golds and greens, evergreens, holly, mistletoe, poinsettia, Yule log, wreaths, bells and heap loads of baubles and fairy lights.

I must admit I usually struggle with January, it seems a bit deflated after all the festivities and is usually cold, wet and windy and no one has any money! I try to look at it as opportunity to have a good clear out of unwanted junk and a good house clearing, sorting, tidying and smudging throughout getting rid of the winter blues and giving everything a fresh outlook for the coming months.

If you want to work with deities that are associated with this time of the year you could look at: Great Mother, Befana , Holda, Isis, Triple Goddess, Mary, Tonazin, Lucina, Mother Earth, Eve, Ops, Snow Queen, Hertha, Freya, Sun Child, Saturn, Cronos, Horus/Ra, Jesus, Mithras, Balder, Santa Claus/Odin, Holly King, Sol Invictus, Janus, Marduk, Old Man Winter and Freyr.

Totem animal/Fae energies that are particularly associated with these months are; goat, reindeer, stag, squirrels, trolls, phoenix, elves (of course!), gnome, wren, robin and snow faeries.

Veggies that are in season in December/January are; artichokes, beetroot, borlotti beans, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celeriac, celery, chard, endive, greens, kale, kohlrabi, leeks, lettuce, onions, pack choi, parsnips, potatoes, pumpkins, radish, rocket, spinach, swede, turnip and watercress.

If you fancy a bit of foraging during the autumn you may find cow parsley, nettles, juniper berries, chestnuts, sea spinach, crab apples, rosehips and some fungus.

If you like working with the energy of crystals then for Yule you could try: Cat’s eye, ruby, diamond, garnet, bloodstone, emerald, alexandrite, kunzite, citrine, green tourmaline, blue topaz, pearls and clear quartz.

Making loose incense or an essential oil blend to help you connect with this season you could try; bayberry, nutmeg, saffron, evergreen, moss, oak, sage, bay, bayberry, cedar, frankincense, ginger, holly, ivy, juniper, mistletoe, myrrh, pine cones, rosemary, chamomile, cinnamon, valerian, yarrow

The Wisdom of Angels By Kate Bowman

Archangel Michael.Angels come with unconditional love providing guidance and assistance towards our higher good while always honouring our free will. Angels to me are winged messenger’s, The word Angel is derived from the ancient Greek angelos meaning messenger. They act as a rainbow bridge between what is called heaven and earth serving as a channel between the higher energies of the spirit world and the material physical world. I believe Angels are genderless beings of a vibration that ids pure spirit and complete so they are androgynous. Each month I hope to show you the meanings of the different Angels, for there are many, and each one is unique in its ability to perform different roles in healing and guidance. Archangel Michael, known as the master of the first ray he walks softly yet firmly speaks the truth and is assertive yet not aggressive. He carries the symbolic flaming sword of power and protection and strength tempered by compassion and love. Protection and guidance are Archangel Michaels strong energies The name Michael comes from the meaning, who is like god -and the 29th September - known as feasts day is his special day.

Extremely tall and handsome, confident with mid length dark hair he will protect you and stop those wanting to hurt you or guide them to change their mind. For me Archangel Michael steps in to protect and guard against negative influences, Chief guardian he opens vessels allowing other angels and spirit to work with me safely.

Hightening my connection giving me, the strength to see things clearly. a loving body-

guard protecting with his powers and his sword that cuts through emotional hard times so works great at cutting ties. Stepping forward in blues and or purples and sheilding in heat is his way of connecting. Hot flushes are not uncom-mon when his energies are around! Helping to follow our truth without compromis-ing our integrity and helping us to find our true natures and tyo be faithful to who we really are. Other times when jobs are too demanding you may wish to call upon his energies or suffering from a degenerative disease or terminal illness, or addictions, nightmares, is strength will help. Guiding and re direction those that feel lost or have lost their pathway on their life’s purpose he will stimulate and motivate you proving clear guidance about which step to take next.

Many light workers will call upon Archangel Michael to help with energy and space clear-ings, balancing and self-esteem issues. His legion of light helps in renewing energy im-plants and releasing spirit attachments.

While some attachments are designed to con-trol in one way or another, energy vampirism is common and they will feed off our energy. Attaching themselves to usually the solar plexus chakra ,although they can attach to any chakra, they then begin to hook and weave between the chakras - tying up in knots your emotions. This is often when we need to call upon his mighty sword to cut through those emotional attachments and severe ties while covering you in his protective purple cloak of protection.

Excellent at helping to fix electrical and me-chanical devises including computers.

Archangel Michael was the warcry of the good angels conquering the fallen angel Saturn in the battle in heaven against Saturn and his fol-lowers. Leader of all forces in heaven he won victory over the places of hell.

It was Archangel Michael who was there to teach Adam how to farm and care for his family and who spoke to Moses on mount sinal.

It was Archangel Micheal who spoke to Joan of Arc and gave strength and courage an protec-

tion. In Laso he was canonized as saint Michael the patron of police officers because of his help and to help with heroic deeds and bravey.

In charge of the order of angels known as the virtues it is no wonder he is known as the “godfather” of angels, Overseeing the Archangels and light workers and guiding those human to be light workers.

He often comes through when I do tarot readings as the ace of swords and can always be taken when the client is in need of strength and letting go of the past going forward with strength and focus

The Magikal Plants and Herbsby Jennifer Adele

Rosemary is a woody, perennial herb with fragrant, evergreen, needle-like leaves and white, pink, purple or blue flowers. It is native to the Mediterranean region and is a member of the mint family. The name “rosemary” derives from the Latin name rosmarinus, derived from “dew” (ros) and “sea” (marinus), or “dew of the sea” because in many locations it needs no water other than the humidity carried by the sea breeze to live. The plant is also sometimes called Anthos, from the ancient Greek word ἄνθος, meaning “flower”.

Rosemary is used as a decorative plant in gardens and has many culinary and medical uses, too. The plant is most often said to improve the memory, and the leaves are often used to flavour various foods, like stuffing’s and roast meats.

Symbolism: remembrance, fidelity, truth, representation of loved ones, righteousness.

Recipes from a Kitchen Witchby Rachel Patterson and Tracey Roberts

ENLIGHTENED EATING

Hot Chocolate every witchy way…We love hot chocolate and there are so many variations, here are some of our favourites:

Luscious chocolate mix.

This recipe makes a good present, mix up all the ingredients and pop into a clean jam jar with some marshmallows or even some Maltesers and a label with instructions and add a pretty ribbon.

2 tablespoons Horlicks (malted milk drink)

2 tablespoons cornflour (cornstarch)

3 tablespoons icing sugar

4 tablespoons cocoa powder

100g dark chocolate, finely grated

1 pinch ground cinnamon

1 pinch sea salt

The mix keeps really well in an air tight tub so make up a batch and then use it as and when you need it. For an individual mug of hot chocolate with half a pint of milk use 5 heaped teaspoons of the mixture.

Pour the milk into a saucepan and bring almost to the boil then spoon the chocolate mix into the hot milk, give it a whisk and leave to simmer in the saucepan for a couple of minutes before serving – it will come together as a nice thick gloopy consistency.

Serve as is or top with whipped cream, marshmallows and a couple of Maltesers or a

sprinkling of grated chocolate.

Ring the changes by using milk or white chocolate in the mixture instead of dark chocolate you could even use grated Caramac for a caramel flavour drink.

Keep it simple hot chocolate

This version of hot chocolate could not be easier – to half a pint of milk add two squares of either dark, milk or plain chocolate and a teaspoon or two of sugar – warm in a saucepan together, whisk and et voila – your hot chocolate is ready.

Add a bit of spice

Page 47: Mystik way magazine 39

Recipes from a Kitchen Witchby Rachel Patterson and Tracey Roberts

Pep up hot chocolate by adding a pinch of chilli powder.

Chai Hot Chocolte

To a mug of hot chocolate add in a teaspoon of cinnamon, a pinch of nutmeg and a pinch of ground cardamom to create a chai flavour.

Sauce it up

There are a lot of places that sell the flavoured syrups that you use in coffee, add a dash to your hot chocolate, lots of different flavours – cinnamon, caramel, vanilla and gingerbread all work well.

Vanilla

Add a few drops of vanilla extract to your hot chocolate to give it a lovely smooth vanilla taste.

Toast it

Toast your marshmallows before you add them to the top of your hot chocolate…lush.

Peanuts!

Add a peanut hit to your hot chocolate.

You will need:

3 cups milk

¼ cup sugar

¼ cocoa powder

¼ water

3 tablespoons smooth peanut butter

3 oz grated chocolate

Pinch salt

Pop the sugar and cocoa powder into a saucepan and whisk together until they are smooth then whisk in the milk over a medium heat until the liquid starts to steam. Remove the pan from the heat and add in the peanut butter and the chocolate, then whisk together. Add a pinch of salt and then top with cream or marshmallows if you want to.

Squirrel hot chocolate

OK it’s not made from squirrels but if they drank hot chocolate we bet they would love this one.

You will need

2 cups milk

3 teaspoons nutella spread

Warm the milk in a saucepan then whisk in the nutella…sorted.

Since this is my first article I thought I would tell the readers a little bit about myself. I have

been a Celtic Shaman for about 20 years. I am also the author of The Leprechauns and The Cauldron the first book in a series about the Otherworld and Faeries. While I would never claim to know everything I do have a lot of spiritual experience and it is my hope to share with you what I have learned. The best part is that being a teacher also means I am a student. I learn from each and every one of you. If you have any questions I am on Face Book and would be happy to answer them to the best of my ability. I chose this topic because I am often asked how one can control their psychic gifts and how one can keep themselves safe. So, here we go on our first adventure together.

When people start their spiritual path they open themselves up to a whole new world. What some fail to realize is that when they are working in these Realms there are rules that have to be followed. All of these rules start with you and setting your personal boundaries. For example, stating every morning for 30 days: Only things that serve my Higher good is in my life. It is important when doing any type of manifesting/spell work that one speaks as if it has already happened to them as this helps things to move faster for you. By doing this one can help set a positive mood for each day and keep negative things away from you. Or you can call

in angels or whatever it is you work with to keep your home and spiritual space as clear as possible. People also need to understand that this is a very tangible path, it is the equivalent of opening yourself up completely, when your psychic senses explode so do your physical senses. This can leave people in a vulnerable state and this is why you do not dabble on this path. The saying goes: Dabblers beware for you might end up in a mental institution. As an example Israel Regardie, one of the founders of the Golden Dawn Order, went through such spiritual trauma working with Aleister Crowley that it took him ten years to recover. This was a very experienced man in his tradition, so remembering to protect yourselves with your spiritual boundaries is very important. As with all things there are exceptions to the rules: when it comes to healing work or protection you do not need permission from that person to do energy/spell work, there will be more on this later. If you are thinking of casting a love spell on an unexpecting suitor you could very well end up with a stalker instead of a lover. I made this mistake as a young witch and I barely avoided being beaten by a very obsessed, controlling person.

Rules for Astral Projection

1. The Astral plane moves at the speed of thought so think carefully. What you think on the astral plane will manifest in your life or someone else’s if you thought about them.

Ethics in Spirituality & setting Boundaries

By Kristin Unkelbach

Kristin is a published writer who also writes children’s books & will be writing for the magazine on a regular basis.

Page 49: Mystik way magazine 39

49

The quote, “Be careful what you wish for,” really ties into this whole concept.

2. Never astral project into another person’s space no matter what your intentions are. People who can astral project sometimes abuse this gift to spy on others. This is considered manipulation which goes against every spiritual rule and boundary.

Spiritual Boundary

1. One can set spiritual boundaries for themselves on the astral plane, by keeping yourself in a state of blissful clarity and peace at all times. Create your own sacred space on the astral plane and you would be amazed by what will come to you. Not to mention where your guides can take you. One great thing about astral projection is that if you do your spell work there it will manifest faster in the physical plane.

Rules for Clairaudience

1. It is very important to take a break from what you are tapping into. For those that can hear things it will become overwhelming if you do not take a break.

2. If spirits talk around you address them directly. They will either leave or talk to you.

Spiritual Boundary

1. I am only going to hear things that are for my highest good on all levels; mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually.

Rules for Clairsentience

1. Intuition: always follow it because it will never take you down the wrong path.

2. Empathic: it is okay not to let other people’s emotions affect you. You are not responsible for taking away another person’s feelings to heal them.

3. Psychometry: do not touch other people’s magical tools/objects without asking.

Spiritual Boundary

1. Intuition: start listening to your intuition or what your gut is telling you. Always check to make sure that it is coming from a place of love, not a place of fear or doubt.

If it is coming from a place of fear or doubt allow yourself to see where those feelings are coming from. Or how they are being projected at you and where those feelings came from.

2. Empathic: set boundaries for yourself so that you do not suck out negative emotions from those that are around you. Unfortunately, people who have leech like tendencies can pick up on that energy and will take advantage of you.

3. Psychometry: energetically charge your tools or use a manifest statement so people will not want to touch them. One can also cloak their magical items; this can be done by visualizing a literal cloak over them.

Rules for Clairvoyance

1. Do not be afraid of what you see, there is always a way to protect yourself.

2. Take a break and turn off your sight for awhile.

3. Do not use your gift of sight to scan anyone for any reason.

Spiritual Boundary

1. Ask your guides to only let you see things that are for your highest good on all levels. This can be a tough one as those with the gift of sight often see some pretty nasty beings. I know I have, especially when clearing demonic beings from a house or a person. I cannot stress enough if you are out there fighting these types of beings that you can never have enough protection.

Rules for Divination

1. Always be honest with your client, do not fluff and bubble anything for anyone, some tact is nice though. Behaving in a dishonest manner does not help you or the person you are trying to help grow.

Spiritual Boundary

1. Do not allow anything to come into your space that is negative while you are doing any kind of divinatory act. You can put up a protective circle of blue flame around you and your client clockwise or deosil.

Page 50: Mystik way magazine 39

50 | MYSTIK WAY MAGAZINE

Remember to take down the circle counter-clockwise or widdershins when you are done.

Rules for Dowsing

1. Never use your tools to harm or manipulate others.

Spiritual Boundary

1. That you will always use our dowsing tools to benefit yourself and others for your highest good.

Rules for Psychic Communication

1. Always talk kindly to your higher self.

2. Always treat others including spiritual beings with respect.

Spiritual Boundary

1. Do not communicate with spiritual beings that are not of unconditional love. If you are psychic all types of beings tend to find us. They want to communicate if you are unsure that something may be good or bad out it in a circle of blue flame and tell it to reveal itself to you truly. If it is something bad ask angels or whatever it is you believe in to remove it. When it is gone take down the blue flame circle and ground out the energy.

Rules for Psychic Healing

1. Do not put any negative intent into your healing work. Whether you’re the one doing the work or being worked on.

2. Only do healing work with another person if you have a very strong connection to them.

3. Only allow someone you trust to do healing work on you.

Spiritual Boundary

1. Set yourself up for the change that will happen within yourself and those around you. If you are open to your clearings than your self-esteem or self-empowerment will improve. The saying goes: if you walk into a room and act like you own it you do.

Rules for Tapping into Your Past Lives

1. Being able to recognize that, that is what is happening to you.

2. You can change the energetic outcome of a past life for your karmic benefit but not the act itself.

3. Retrieve the memories from the soul of your past lives and let go of the trauma of those lifetimes.

Spiritual Boundary

1. Set yourself up so that you do not suffer from your past life experiences. Learn the lessons in this lifetime so you can continue to grow in peace and love. Always view past life experiences as an observer first then when you have processed what you have seen one can choose to be the participant. In meditation you can change the outcome, for example if you died in a traumatic way. Changing it will not change it literally but it helps us to learn the lesson we may have missed in that lifetime. We will be able to see how that experience may be effecting us in this lifetime and finally. How to let that experience go so you can continue to grow in this lifetime.

Rules for Telepathy

1. Do not jump into another person’s mind. What others are thinking is none of your business. Well, I know I don’t want o know what creepy guy is thinking when he looks at me. This will only create spiritual drama in your life.

2. Make sure that you are grounded and centered everyday so that you can balance the gifts of telepathy and being empathic in harmony. If you have one of these gifts you have the other even if you are not aware of it.

Spiritual Boundary

1. Do not let other people into your head as they can manipulate you for their own benefit.

Rules for Sacred Space

1. Do not enter a person’s sacred space without verbal permission.

2. Never leave or enter a magical circle

Page 51: Mystik way magazine 39

51

once it has been cast unless a doorway has been cut. Doing this does lessen the protection of your circle however.

3. Do not leave your energetic imprint in sacred spaces unless you are participating in the work.

Spiritual Boundary

1. Ask spiritual beings or set up shields to protect all of your scared spaces.

Manipulation

All people on a spiritual path need to know the beings that they are working with are very powerful. It is very easy to get caught up in what I call ‘being power hungry’. By gaining power through darkness you only hurt yourself and those around you. Dark forces that are invited in can take years to get rid of, if ever, especially if one does not know what they are doing. Many gifted people find that spiritual manipulation can bring them what they want very quickly, whether it is a person or situation that is manipulated. In all energy or spell work this is a big no no. However, there are two loopholes as there always is. Any type of work may be done in two areas, healing and protection. When it comes to these two things you do not need to ask the person for permission. You can come through in many ways to help them. As you grow on your spiritual path you will be able to help more people with healing work. When it comes to protecting yourself or loved ones spiritually the gloves come off. Protect yourself by whatever means necessary. This must be done out of justice and not revenge. If you do not know how to protect yourself ask for help from other beings to take care of the situation in a manner that coincides with the energy of justice.

The Threefold Law

What you do whether it is good or bad will come back on you threefold. If you make the bed you get to lay in it, only three times worse or three times better depending on your intent. This is essentially the natural law of cause and effect. The gods and goddesses, or whatever you prefer to call source, charges us all to take care in all that we do, say, or even think. You can bless or curse someone with your tongue literally! So, remember to do all of

your work from a clear space and always check you motives before putting anything into action.

One thing to always keep in mind is that even though the power does come from you, when you call in other beings for help you need to acknowledge them. This is not a spiritual path where one boasts about their abilities. This only leads to power struggles within group settings and can cause one to lose their spiritual gifts in the process. Be proud of what you do and accomplish but always keep in mind where your gifts come from and be humble about them.

It is very important to put spiritual boundaries into place. These are boundaries meant only to serve your highest good and of those around you. Please be gentle with yourselves and others for this is a very honored and blessed path we get to walk together. We must respect ourselves and others enough to respect their spiritual boundaries, well all boundaries really. Remember to take a break from your spiritual life. There has to be a balance between your mundane life, (everyday life), and spiritual life. No one has to be tapped in all of the time, it is not even recommended. So, tread lightly on this earth for she is our Mother that provides us with all things. Never forget that each and every person’s soul expands over the entire globe, with this thought in mind we can look at each other differently and let go of man-made dualities. When this is let go of you can truly see who you are and those around you. What you will find is perfection as we are all perfect just the way we are.

Whether you are new to this path or have been practicing for a long time I highly recommend buying a journal so you can write down your experiences. The people I have worked with for years often feel like they have not grown or that they or stuck. The journal acts as your own personal timeline so you can see the growth. I know I have to look at mine quite often to remind myself of where I was when I started to where I am now. If I happen to be stuck oddly enough the answers are usually in one of my entries.
