Presenting the IB MYP Community Project
Community Project TED-Style Talk
Now that you have finalized your Community Project and your process journal is filled with your service and action journey. You need to prepare for your Community Project presentation.
The way in which we present our Community Project is through a TED-Style Talk or display board with an appendix of evidence.
TED-Style Talk
Your TED-Style Talk is an engaging presentation on your community project journey and also a way to continue to grow as a courageous and effective communicator.
The following timeframes need to be adhered to:

Individual student presentation (TED-Style Talk) 6 - 10 minutes
Pair and Group presentation (TED-Style Talk collaboratively presented)
10 - 14 minutes
TED-Style Talk StructureYour TED-Style Talk or Display Board needs to include the following:
Hook As a way of introducing your TED-Style Talk, employ your persuasive and emotive language skills as a way to hook your audience.
Investigation- Define a goal to address a
need within a community, based on personal interest.
Explain the following:- The community you served- The need within the community you addressed- The global context you chose and why- The type of service you engaged in and why- How this is based on personal interest
- Identify prior learning and subject specific knowledge
Explain the following:- Prior learning that helped you put your proposal for action
into action with examples- Subject-specific knowledge and skills that helped you put your
proposal for action into action with examples.
- Demonstrate research skills
Explain the following:- How you engaged in research, with examples- How your ability to research has developed, with examples
Planning- Develop a proposal for
action to serve the need in the community
Explain the following:- The thoughtful considerations you have made and why (the
four considerations you transferred into success criteria)- Your proposal for action
- Plan and record the development process of the project
Explain the following:- How you forward planned to put your proposal for action into
action, with examples- How you kept to this plan, changes you had to make and why
- Demonstrate self-management skills
Explain the following:- How you have developed your organisation skills, with
examples- How you have developed your mindfulness, perseverance and
self-motivation skills, with examples- How you have developed your reflection skills, with examples
Taking Action- Demonstrate service as
action as a result of the project
Explain the following:- Share a reflection of how you put your proposal for action into
action.
- Demonstrate thinking skills
Explain the following:- How your thinking skills have developed. Choose a time in your
Community Project journey where you had to think deeply in order to solve a problem or overcome an obstacle.
- Demonstrate communication and social skills
Explain the following:- How your communication and social skills have developed.
Choose a time in your Community Project journey where you had to take risks and communicate and collaborate effectively in order to put your proposal for action into action.
Reflecting- Evaluate the quality of the
service as action against the proposal
Explain the following:- Share your evaluation and justification of evaluation of your
service and action.
- Reflect on how completing the project has extended your knowledge and understanding of service learning
Explain the following:- Share your I / we used to think … Now I / we think … Because …
reflection- Share your reflection on your personal growth through
explaining the Saying, Thinking, Being, Doing, Having and Feeling reflection
- Reflect on development of ATL skills
Explain the following:- Share your reflection on how you have developed the ATL skills
of Communication, Social, Self-management, Research and Thinking. Make sure you provide examples.
Final Thoughts Refer back to your Hook Introduction and leave your audience with your final thoughts on your service learning journey and what you hope others will understand from your work. Perhaps leave your audience with some keys for how they can help continue your cause.
Visuals
Your Community Project presentation will need to be accompanied by an engaging and relevant visual presentation that enhances your TED-Style Talk.
Make sure the visuals, keywords, video clips, sound effects, etc., enhance your presentation so you can make the greatest impact possible.
AppendicesThe Appendices is simply evidence from your process journal of each section of the Community Project inquiry cycle. For example, when you are presenting the following: Develop a proposal for action to serve the need in the community, your appendices can include your success criteria and your proposal for action. This can simply be a screenshot or photocopy from your process journal - really simple.
The following pages contain a breakdown of what you can place in your appendices, however, remember you are not limited to these recommendations and you can develop your appendices as you wish, just make sure you adhere to the quantity guidelines.

Bibliography Finalise your Bibliography by accurately referencing your sources in alphabetical order.
Submission When you present your TED-Style Talk to your peers and teachers, you will need to submit the following:
- A script of your TED-Style Talk- A copy of the power point for your TED-Style Talk- Appendices- Bibliography
Exhibition Your Appendices will be photocopied and given back to you to create your own Exhibition display so you can share your Service Learning journey with the community.
Ensure you have additional images, samples, videos, etc. of your Community Project journey to share with your family, friends and teachers. This is your exhibition, you can show what you are most proud of and what you feel accurately reflects your Community Project learning journey.
