I am a self taught, natural light professional photographer, with a home based studio in

Chartwell North, Fourways, Johannesburg, South Africa. I have been a professional

photographer since January 2007, starting out in the wedding industry, unfortunately due

to my circumstances, I have chosen a new genre in studio-based portrait photography, as I

follow my ultimate passion in photography.

My Studio has been running successfully for over three years, and makes use of a

professional hair and makeup artist, who supports my vision and knows exactly what to do

for portrait photography.

My blog displays my shooting style in studio, and I hope to bring something beautiful to all

My Studio specialises in hair styling, makeup and the art of directing poses which make

beautiful printed portraits and more importantly, helping women feel beautiful.

Studio shoots include: boudoir, fine art nude, maternity (pregnancy), couples, family, best

friends, sisters, moms and daughters, children, siblings, glamour, corporate head shots.

Basically anything that I can shoot in studio , and I am open to suggestions in creative shoots

as well.

My Story:

My nick name is one handed legend, here’s why:

In October 2012, I survived not 1 but 2 severe ischemic strokes which surprised all the

doctors and me more I suppose, the second stroke was on the brain stem, which should

have caused death, but did not, thankfully. It did however leave me half paralysed on my

left hand side of my body. So I have had to adapt, in all areas of my life.

I started my career of photography shooting weddings, which is now physically impossible,

so I changed genres to studio portraits and fine art photography. I am incredibly passionate

about my studio and helping women. The only thing that has really changed for me, is now I

shoot free hand, with a fixed portrait lens as I cannot use left hand to zoom, and I use a

leather chair with wheels to zoom around my shooting space using my good leg to do so. I

am determined to continue on my journey:

Am I a Photographer?

Yes, I am an inspirational, professional portrait photographer, specialising in photographing

women and helping them feel beautiful (although I do photograph men beautifully too).

What I actually do, is empower women to embrace their own beauty through my portrait

photography.

I am yet to meet a woman that does not want to look and feel beautiful, and this is my gift

to share.

Why do a portrait session with me?

Firstly, you get to spend a day in the country side and take a bit of "me" time for yourself.

Secondly, you get pampered by incredible talent with my professional hair and makeup

artist. Merichen - Madison Blush Makeup Artistry, she is a beautiful woman, with a kind

gentle soul and you will look and feel incredible by the time she is done with you.

Thirdly, you get to pose under my direction (and posing is my game), feeling like a super

star/rock star/model for a few hours. I am a natural light photographer, and my setup is

simple and homely, so nothing scary to deal with here.

Then, you get to view your final edited images of your beautiful self, through my eyes. You

get to fall in love with them and yourself, you get to choose quality printed product,

something of value to treasure for a lifetime, a reminder of that one very special day where

you where empowered and confident and happy and free.

Here is how we do things:

You pay a sitting fee which confirms a session with me, we discuss how you want to be

photographed,who is joining you, your wardrobe, what your theme is for your session

(whether it’s glamour, boudoir, corporate etc) and your ideas about your portraits (do you

want something for your walls or something discreet or something for your loved ones etc)

The day of your session is magical, it is exciting and there will of course be a bit of nerves

too. When you arrive at my studio, you will be greeted by myself and my pets and then

introduced to my lady that will be pampering and glamming you up for your session. You

will look and feel gorgeous by the time you are finished with her.

Then you are ready to be directed in front of camera with me, and working together, we

make magic and your perfect portraits are the result. Now I know it is uncomfortable being

in front of camera, but I promise you, you will be perfect and have fun. I give incredible

direction, posing is a huge part of my skill set, I know what I want and need from you to

create your portraits.

That is your portrait session done and dusted. You will feel an immediate change in yourself

when you leave here (accomplished, confident, beautiful, empowered, uplifted, happy and

inspired).

You are then invited back for your personal viewing with me. This is after my selection,

editing and retouching process. This is a carefully prepared presentation where you see the

result of our session together. Your viewing is a very special, exciting, and magical time here

in studio.

It is where you get to see yourself differently, where you make your selection and purchase

of portraits. It is where you get to fall in love with yourself again.

Your products will be stunning, professional and amazing quality, they will last longer than a

lifetime. Something to look back at one day and treasure (Our turn around time for

collection of products at studio is usually within two to three weeks after your viewing)

Shoot Preparation:

Please arrive at studio on time so we don’t delay my hmua or the shoot

Please arrive with clean dry hair, we will style in studio before the shoot. If your

roots need retouching, please do so before shoot, as this is very difficult to fix in post

production.

Please arrive with clean moisturised face, make up will be applied in studio.

If nails need to be redone, please do so as chipped nails are also difficult to fix in post

production

I always encourage my ladies to enjoy pre-shoot pampers! You deserve to spoil yourself

Please be careful of the following before shoot:

sun burn, tight bra straps that leave marks for change of outfit

skin/body treatments that could affect/mark skin, fake tans gone wrong etc

Wardrobe:

Bring what you have, bring as much as you want. Some of my ladies look like they

are moving in with me here (and I’m perfectly ok with that)

Or go do a shop for new things and keep the pamper feeling alive, you deserve it.

Remember, this is your portrait session and I want you to wear what you love,

because your prints will last all your days

I will do a consult before your session starts and help you choose what to wear, I am

also available before your day to answer questions and guide you. I normally choose

2-3 outfits, depending on how we do for time on your day.

Ursula T’s tips:

Something Light, something dark.

Bring your favourite item

Black is always a winner

White is also a winner

I’m crazy about evening dresses with shiny bits, always classical and elegant

The more fitting, the better, for body language (don’t worry about bulges

and things – I can so easily fix this is post production)

Preferably no logos as the focus is your face and eyes

I am not too worried about shoes as this is a portrait shoot, so shoes are not visible,

unless they are a special item and you wish to include them.

Investment:

A Sitting fee of R3000 is payable upfront to confirm your session with me, this

is non refundable, however I do allow one date change in case you can’t make

it in an emergency. Dates reserved for sessions are on a first come, first served

basis. Your sitting fee includes the following:

Professional hair style and makeup for one lady (additional ladies will pay in a

fee of R1000). This takes Approximately An hour hour and a half. You will also

get a few makeup tips from my artist.

Wardrobe/outfit consult

Portrait session (normally start at 10:00 am and end around 14:00 or 15:00

pm), with 2 - 3 outfit changes (so we could do for example a corporate profile

and glamour portraits in one session with me or glamour and boudoir etc,

(we can discuss your ideas here).

Refreshments/drinks

Editing and retouching of Images (each image is carefully selected and edited)

Viewing of Images (your viewing date is arranged at your session and takes

place either immediately after if the day allows, or a few days after your

session)

Products/Images are not included in my sitting fee, and are purchased seperatly at your

viewing after your session, in which ever format you desire)

Remember, you only purchase what you fall in love with!

I do not have a minumum spend amount and you are free to choose what you want. I

always do a presentation and product recommkendation, I am always accomadating

All Printed Portraits are high quality products sourced from the best suppliers in SA and only

printed with professional labs.

A canvas is block mounted onto a wooden frame, ready to hang. Framing can

be arranged for your masterpiece.

Studio Signature Product:

9 Up Frame R 10,000

( 9 portraits 5”X7.5”) beautifully framed, behind glass,

a beautiful summary of your session.

Your border in your frame can either be black or white, and images/portraits in colour or

BW, depending on my editing style for your session. You get to choose which portraits you

want, in which order

My experience! AMAZING!

The way you feel when you leave is absolutely mind blowing.

At first my sister and I arrived, feeling insecure, uneasy and weren’t sure what we were supposed to

expect. When we had arrived, we didn’t know how to feel about the way we looked and the clothes

that we had brought with us.

Once we arrived, immediately in Ursula’s studio, we were comfortable and at ease.

She had a lively makeup artist to do our makeup and hair, which straight away lifted our spirits. We

were secure and felt INCREDIBLE.

Before the shoot we didn’t know what to do as of course it was our first time doing a portrait until

the time for the camera came.

Ursula made it feel so relaxing and my sister and I felt like naturals.
