A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Among other
functions, students learn to introduce themselves, to give an opinion, to express likes and
preferences,andtodescribepeople.
Learnersalsolookatthedemonstrativeadjectives(this,that,these,andthose),thearticles(a,
an, and the), the imperative (‘Listen!’), and theverb tobe. They learnvocabulary related to
numbers, countries,nationalities,professions,meansof transport, clothes, family,andmany
othertopics.
LEVEL2ELEMENTARYPLUS
ThecontentsofLevel2ElementaryPlusofMyOxfordEnglishcorrespondtothesecondpartof
level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Among
otherfunctions,studentslearntogivedirections,todescribepeopleandactions,totalkabout
abilities,andtodescribehowtheytraveltowork.
Students learn how to use the present simple (‘I work’) and the present continuous (‘I am
working’). They also look at prepositions of location (in,on,at, etc.), formulating questions,
and expressing likes and preferences (like, love, hate, etc.). The vocabulary included in the
levelisrelatedtosports,hobbies,work,andothertopics.
LEVEL3PRE-INTERMEDIATE
ThecontentsofLevel3Pre-IntermediateofMyOxfordEnglishcorrespondtothefirstpartof
level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Among
other functions, students learnhow tomake requests andoffers, to talk about futureplans
andpredictions,totalkaboutthepast,andtodescriberecentevents.
They learnhowtouse thepast simple (‘He repaired thescanner’), the futurewithgoing to,
countableanduncountablenouns,andwouldlike,some,andany.Theyalsolearnvocabulary
relatedtofoodanddrink,jobs,theweather,music,money,expressionswithhave,andmany
othertopics.

B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Among other
functions, students learn to talk inmoredepthabout cooking,preparingandordering food,
travelling, and making social arrangements. They also learn how to describe people,
possessions,andevents.
Inaddition,theylookatthepresentperfect(‘We’veworked’),thepassivevoiceinthepastand
present (‘Oranges are grown in Valencia’), indefinite pronouns (somebody, anyone,
everywhere,etc.),anddefiningrelativeclauses(‘That’sthegirlmybrother’sgoingoutwith’).
Theyalso learn vocabulary related to food, vehicles, the Internet,materials, anddifferences
betweenBritishandAmericanEnglish.
LEVEL6INTERMEDIATEPLUS
ThecontentsofLevel6IntermediatePlusofMyOxfordEnglishcorrespondtothesecondpart
of levelB1of theCommonEuropeanFrameworkofReference forLanguages (CEFR).Among
other functions, learners look at expressing future possibilities, talking about problems,
describingabilities,andparticipatinginjobinterviews.
Studentslearntousetheconditionals(‘IfIraneveryday,I’dfeelhealthier’)andadjectivesand
adverbsofprobability (sure,certain,definitely, etc.). They lookat theverbs tell andsay and
infinitivestructures.Theyalso learnvocabularyrelatedtohousework,mathematics,airports,
legalmatters,andmanyothertopics.

about past experiences, to talk about personal possessions, and to discuss environmental
issues.

doing?’),toformulateindirectquestions(‘Doyourememberifhewaswearingacoat?’),and
to express reason, cause, and contrast (‘He got the job because of her’). They also learn
vocabulary related to literature, phone conversations, business, music, phrasal verbs, and
manyothertopics.
LEVEL8UPPER-INTERMEDIATEPLUS
ThecontentsofLevel8Upper-IntermediatePluscorrespondtothesecondpartoflevelB1+of
theCommonEuropeanFrameworkofReferenceforLanguages(CEFR).Amongotherfunctions,
studentslearnhowtoconfirminformation,describetheirhomes,talkaboutservices,converse
aboutthemedia,anddescribeaseriesofrecentevents.
Theylearnhowtousethepassivevoice(‘Thecriminalwasarrested’)andthepastperfect(‘I’d
finished when they got here’). Learners also look at reported speech (‘She told me she’d
passed’)andexpressingpermission,obligation,andprohibitionwithmodalsverbs (‘Youmay
usemyphone’).Thevocabularyincludedinthelevelisrelatedtofood,lifestyle,phrasalverbs,
healthandbeautyproducts,andmanyothertopics.
LEVEL9ADVANCED
ThecontentsofLevel9AdvancedofMyOxfordEnglishcorrespondtothefirstpartoflevelB2
of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Among other
functions, students lookatdescribinghypothetical situations, talkingabout their habits, and
expressingtheiropinion.
Learnersalsolookathowtousethefuturecontinuous(‘We’llbeskiingthistimenextweek’),
the past perfect continuous (‘They’d been working hard all day’), and the passive infinitive
(‘Wecanbecontactedbyemail’).Thevocabularyincludedinthelevelisrelatedtotechnology,
facialfeatures,photography,geography,arts,phrasalverbs,expressionswithhave,andmany
othertopics.

level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Among
other functions, students learn to talk about local institutions, discuss problem solving,
describe regrets, talk about borrowing and losing things, and converse about stories and
fiction.
Learnersalsolookattheconditionalstructures(‘Ifthey’dlefthomelater,they’dhavemissed
thebus’),thefutureperfect(‘Thetrainwon’thave leftyet’),verbsexpressingdeductionand
perception(look,sound,feel,taste,etc.),andreportedspeech.Thevocabularyincludedinthe
level is relatedtoformsofgovernment, theworldofbusiness,hospitals,crimes,expressions
withoff,phrasalverbs,expressionswithget,andmanyothertopics.
LEVEL11UPPER-ADVANCED
ThecontentsofLevel11Upper-AdvancedofMyOxfordEnglishcorrespondtothefirstpartof
level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The
functions looked at include arguing a particular point of view, showing understanding,
establishingrapportandshowinginterest,respondingtofeedback,andrecognizingandusing
vaguelanguage.
Studentslearn,amongotherthings,todescribecross-culturalexperiences,todiscussworking
practices,toshowunderstanding,togettheirpointacross,tomanagediscussionsinmeetings,
and to participate in teleconferences. They also revise the verbal tenses and study cleft
sentencesandadverbs.Theylearnhowtoaddemphasisusingfrontingandtoreferenceusing
pronouns.
LEVEL12UPPER-ADVANCEDPLUS
ThecontentsofLevel12Upper-AdvancedPlusofMyOxfordEnglishcorrespondtothesecond
part of level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Among other functions, learners look at expressing dissatisfaction, giving and receiving
compliments,anddealingwithmisunderstandings.
Students learn to talk about training and learning, to discuss employer / employee
expectations, to give impromptu presentations, to raise difficult points, and to reach an
agreement in a negotiation. In addition to other important structures, learners look at
discoursemarkers,participleclauses,distancinganddepersonalizingwhattheysayusingthe
passive,andemphasizingusinginversion.

The levelofMyOxfordEnglishthatyouaregivenby

of your level are the most important part of the
course.

2. PLACEMENTTEST
WHATISIT?The Placement Test checks your level of English to
putyouinthecorrectlevelofMyOxfordEnglish.
Itcontains60questions,32ofwhichhaveanaudio
recording tocheckyour listeningcomprehension. It
isamultiplechoicetestinwhichyouhavetochoose
between fiveoptions. The test takes approximately
30minutestofinish.
HOWTOACCESSTHEPLACEMENTTESTToaccessthePlacementTest,youhavetousethewebaddress,usernameandpasswordsent
toyoubyemail.Ifyouhavenotreceivedthisemail,pleasecontactyourtutor.
HOWTOCOMPLETETHEPLACEMENTTESTYoumustonlyanswerthequestionsthatyouknowtheanswerto.Donotguess.
If you do not know the answer, you must
selecttheoption‘don’tknow’.
Beforeyoustartthetest,checkyourspeakers
or headphones to see if they are working
correctly.
When you have finished the Placement Test,

3. CONFIGURATIONCHECKBeforeyou start the course, you should check if your computer
meets the minimum system requirements to study with My
OxfordEnglish.
To do this you can use the Configuration Check tool. This is an
easyway to check if your computer is configured correctly and
readyforthecourse.
In themainmenuon the leftof theHOME page clickonCONFIGURATIONCHECKand then
START TEST. The results of the automatic tests will be displayed on the screen. If your
computerfailedanyofthetests,thesewillappearinred.Followtheinstructionstoconfigure
your computer correctly. If you need help, you can check the FAQs section or contact the
