Our journey to Allah in order to make the path easy we have to know who we are and who to rely on.

The more we know who we are, the more humble we will be.

Allah is reforming us in this life in order to do the best, and to reach Allah in the best way, but we have

a distraction along the way – the shaitan. He has no job but to mislead us, day and night.

SURAH AL MAEDA 91

Shaitân (Satan) wants only to excite enmity and hatred between you with intoxicants (alcoholic drinks) and gambling,

and hinder you from the remembrance of Allâh and from As-Salât (the prayer). So, will you not then abstain? – Surah

Al Maeda 91

WHAT DOES THE SHAITAN WANT?

In the previous ayah, Allah forbade drinking and gambling – it is actually from the shaitan, so you need

to abstain from it in order to achieve success.

When Allah is forbidding us from something it is nurturing, we have to submit and accept it.

But what does the shaitan want? He wants us to fall into the hole of sins.

( ن ـ يط .the shaitan wants only. You can see that the shaitan is thinking, and that he has a will :(إنما يريد ٱلش

Which is why Allah will recompense him, and in this case, punish him.

The shaitan is an enemy to the human – this will not change. He wants the destruction of the human.

When we are not following the commands of Allah, when we disobey and not submit to Allah, then the

human will be destroyed because of disobedience and disbelief.

ٱلخمر فى وٱلبغضاء ٱلعدٲوة بينكم يوقع أن ن ـ يط ٱلش يريد ما إن

منتہون أنتم فهل لوة‌ ٱلص وعن ٱلل ذكر عن كم ويصد وٱلميسر

HOW DOES HE WANT TO DESTROY US?

( أن يوقع بينكم): To place between you. He has a desire to place between us (here the believers are being

addressed):

1. ( عدٲوة ٱل ): enmity

hatred :(وٱلبغضاء ) .2

Enmity and hatred will lead to weakness, and when the human is weak, then he becomes an easy

target for the shaitan. Then the shaitan will provide ideas and ways on how to disobey Allah.

The shaitan wants to attack and destroy our inner-peace. How? He will place enmity and hatred in our

hearts. Enmity and hatred is very disturbing to the human, and once it’s there, it will distract the

human to just plot against other parties. He wants to destroy the relationship between the Muslims,

between the believers.

He wants them to separate and break apart, because if the Muslimeen hate each other, then each will

be in his own corner.

He does want them to unite, that’s why the shaitan does not like when there are groups and

communities – he wants to break up this unity. Especially when there is the remembrance of Allah

taking place, he will try even harder. When people are separated, then it becomes easier for him.

He cannot come to a row of believers, one next to the other – it is like a fortress. On the other hand, it

is very easy for him to attack when a person is alone. So may Allah help us to pardon and overlook

others, and to give excuses for all of those we love for the sake of Allah, otherwise the shaitan can

really have a big effect. We ask Allah to unite our hearts. Ameen.

WHEN IS IT EASY FOR THE SHAITAN TO COME TO US?

( فى ٱلخمر وٱلميسر): with the intoxicants and gambling. Allah has forbidden these and they are major sins.

One of the things that can destroy a human being is when he is disobeying Allah and violating the rules

of Allah. If someone violates the rules of Allah, then you can find that the shaitan can easily place the

enmity between the people.

How can the shaitan have the power to bring enmity amongst the people? When he goes to each

person individually.

What makes people to be together, the faith, the obedience and the submission. But if one person

disobeys and violates the rules then it will cause separation, and it will bring enmity between the

people.

If you obey Allah and your sister for the sake of Allah obeys Allah too, then you will find that your

hearts are united together, but if one violates the rules of Allah, then you can find a type of separation,

and this makes it easy for the shaitan to attack and bring enmity.

So sins take a person far from Allah, and the shaitan has easy access to that person now. But when a

person is following the rules of Allah, then it makes it harder for the shaitan to come close.

There is a correlation between obedience and unity, and there is correlation between sin and

separation.

If someone is committing a sin, like drinking, his mind will be absent and it will be very easy for him to

say something and wrong someone, or even go as far as killing someone.

When a person is gambling or committing any other kind of major sin, you will see that it will exceed

other people’s rights. They will insult, backbite, kill, etc.

THE SHAITAN WANTS TO TURN US AWAY FROM ALLAH

( كم he will turn you away. He wants to put a barrier between us and the good deeds. He wants :(ويصد

your heart to turn away. He will attack the heart through his whispers.

And if the heart turns away, then the body will turn away.

WHAT DOES HE WANT US TO TURN AWAY FROM?

He goes to the things that are our success and happiness, which is when there is love and unity

between the people. He doesn’t want us to have that happiness in the duniya, nor does he want us to

have the ultimate happiness in the akhira.

1. ( .from the remembrance of Allah :(عن ذكر ٱلل

When you want to remember Allah, you will see that he will distract you. When you want to

read or memorize Quran, he will discourage you, and make you feel sleepy. At night you want

to read supplications, and as soon as you put your head on the pillow, he will make you tired

and fall asleep.

Remembrance of Allah gives happiness to the heart, and it brings serenity, tranquility and

peace. And clearly that is not what the shaitan wants.

He does not want us to feel happy because with the remembrance of Allah, the heart finds

happiness. That’s why he wants to remind us of our past, our sorrows, and our mishaps in order

to make us sad and upset – and this will distract us from remembering Allah.

Remembering Allah brings closeness to Allah, and when you remember Allah in a group, then

Allah remembers you in a better group. The more you know about the shaitan, the more you

know that you truly need Allah all the time because we cannot fight him on our own. We need

Allah to protect us and alhamd Allah that Allah is telling us and warning us about the shaitan.

لوة ) .2 .and from the prayers :( وعن ٱلص

When you start your prayer, you will find that he will remind you of things you couldn’t even

remember in order to remove the coolness of the eyes from your salat.

You get the peace and tranquility when you remember Allah and pray, and you need tawakul

upon Allah to achieve all of this.

WITH ALL OF THIS WARNING, ALLAH IS ASKING…

( نتہون ?so will you not abstain :(فهل أنتم م

Will you then stop, will you then abstain from the sins? If you sin and you know about it, then very

easily the shaitan will play his role, and he will turn you away from remembering Allah. It is the sins

that stop us from reaching Allah and places the division and enmity between us.

May Allah always make us united together and make us a means to reach Allah and to protect us from the shaitan.
