My experience with volunteering
Food Pantry
Ahmad Almelhim
A bit about myself.
-At the beginning of year I decided that I’m going to do something different. Something better. I wasn’t sure what I wanted do so I did couple of staff;
1. Join a gym.
2. Stop eating fast food.
3. Volunteer*
My name is Ahmad. I’m 22 years old Junior at PSU.My major is Business: Marketing.I have no volunteer experience prior to this at all.
Why Volunteer?People volunteer for a wide variety of reasons,
most people want to help others. But it's also OK to want some benefits for yourself from volunteering.
In fact; even if you volunteer with 100% pure intention of helping others, you will still benefit by feeling satisfied and good!
Or you can even volunteer with pure selfishness to make up for something and you will still help serve the people who need you.
Reasons People Volunteer to feel needed
to get to know a community
to gain leadership skills
to do your civic duty
satisfaction from accomplishment
to keep busy
to have an impact
to learn something new
to build your resume
to feel proud
guilt
to make new friends
to explore a career
to earn academic credit
to test yourself
to feel good
for fun!
To help someone
& A LOT MORE
Why the
• Because the food pantry opens its doors and welcomes all students who need help here in PSU providing them with different kinds of food for FREE!
• Because we are all students and we all have been there were we needed some help financially.
• & because its in campus, easy, friendly environment, and its offers flexible days since they are open almost everyday of the week.
What I learned from volunteering at the food
pantry
I learned that if people started serving/helping each other a lot of
people will be in a better life status.
I also learned that a lot of people still have good in them and a lot
of people will help if the directions were there.
I also learned the sad fact that there is a child who dies every 10
seconds on earth from “HUNGER”.(According to Josette Sheeran & the BBC)
Why should you take the exceptional pathways
class? You should take this class because we all need a
reminder from time to time that the community comes first and its always needs some kind of help or another.
I learned a lot from this class through researching and reading articles about important issues our community faces.
It gave me the push I needed to start volunteering; I always wanted to volunteer but I didn’t know what to do, but this class forced me to act and it turned out to be just what I needed to get started.
