KAISER GARDEN

THE CONCEPT FOR THE GARDEN IS A HARBOUR. LIKE SHIPS PEOPLE NEED A PLACE TO REST, REPAIR AND REFUEL. THE HARBOR CONCEPT WAS INSPIRED

BY KAISERS BEGINNINGS OF SHIP MANUFACTURING DURING WWII

THE KAISER GARDEN IS A COURTYARD SURROUNDED BY A 7 STORY BUILDING.

THE DESIGN NEEDED TO BE FAMILY FRIENDLY AND USABLE 24 HOURS A

DAY.

Mission statementOur mission is to preserve and

protect the integrity of the watershed for the

enjoyment of current and future generations. With

community and public involvement, we will promote

discovery and experience of the unique site habitats and

cultural history through the personal interaction within the

Redwood Creek Watershed.

Golden Gate NationalRecreation Area:GGNRA incorporates trails, an organic farm, and Zen learning center. This ar-ea’s main draw is its extensive trail sys-tems, where users are able to enjoy their picturesque experience of Muir Beach.

Muir Woods Watershed: TheRedwoodCreekWa-tershedismadeupof8creeks.RedwoodcreekandFernCreekare the largest contributors. Being withinanationalpark,thewater-shed is less affected by pollution and is in a more pristine condition.

Withthemanynaturaloccur-ring processes within the Redwood Creekwatershed,itsusersarein-vited to observe its abundant beauty. Withitsseasonalchanges,thewa-tershed provides a unique experi-ence at any time of year.

Because of its protected state, local residents and visitors have the opportunitytopartakeintheRed-woodCreekWatershed’sactivepreservation. Although visitation is highly welcomed, the impact that the users create needs to be assessed andaconstantconcern.Withtheintent to preserve the site for future generations we need to be aware of thenaturalfunctionstakingplaceand the impacts we have on them.

IF WE COULD ALL BE JOHN MUIRWHEN WE TUG AT A SINGLE THING FROM NATURE WE FIND IT ATTACHED TO THE REST OF THE WORLD. JOHN MUIR

PERSPECTIVE DRAWING OF THE JOHN MUIR INTERACTIVE ART PIECE

INSPIRATIONAL PIECES THAT BROUGHT ME TO MY IDEA OF THE INTERACTIVE ART PIECE. I WANTED A PIECE OF ART THAT EMBODIED THE PLACE OF MUIR BEACH. THAT TOOK ONE OF ITS FOUNDERS AND ALLOWED EVERYONE, TO IN A WAY BE HIM, SEE WHAT HE SAW. IN THE END TRY TO BE LIKE HIM. WHETHER IT JUST BE FOR THAT DAY WHILE VISITING THE BEACH, OR LONGER AFTER THOUGH THEIR EVERYDAY LIVES. THROUGH JUST STOPPING AND SITTING TO ENJOY THE VIEWS THAT WERE MAGNIFICENTLY PLACED THERE, GIVES A GLIMPSE INTO WHAT WAS THE STRIVING PUSH OF JOHN MUIRS LIFE.

JOHN MUIROne of a America’s first true naturalist and early advocate of preservation of U.S. wilderness. His direct activism helped to save the Yosemite Valley, Sequoia National Park, Muir Beach, Redwood National Monument and other wilderness areas. The Sierra Club, which he founded, is now one of the most important conservation organizations in the United States. His writings and philosophy strongly influenced the formation of the modern environmental movement.

FRESNO

FRESNO IS A CITY WITH A DOWNTOWN CORE THAT IS DETERIORATING DUE TO PEOPLE LEAVING IT. THIS PROJECT WAS LOOKING AT WHY PEOPLE WERE LEAVING AND HOW TO BRING THEM BACK

to THE CITY CORE.

Page 9: My Design Portfolio

REENERGIZE THE DOWNTOWN BY CREATING AN ART DISTRICT JUST TO THE NORTH OF THE DOWNTOWN.

THE DESIGN IS A NECKLACE OF OPEN SPACES THAT LINK SHOPPING, THE MUSEUM, BUSINESSES AND the CONVENTION CENTER INTO A COHESIVE

CONCEPTUAL PLAN II

DISCONNECTION

Sequoia national park wanted to have a new entry experience that made it safer and more enjoyable for visitors and park employees. The main problem with the site was a disconnection between multiple users and

programs.

Page 11: My Design Portfolio

THE GROUPS SOLUTION WAS TO ELIMINATE THE MAIN ROAD AND CREATE A LOOP. THIS GETS RID OF THE DISCONNECTION BETWEEN THE SITE AND USERS CREATING A HOLISTIC

DESIGN.

Page 12: My Design Portfolio

DISNEY DESIGN COMPETITION

THE NEUTRINO EXCHANGE WAS A DESIGN FOR DISNEYs ANNUAL DESIGN COMPETITION.

Page 13: My Design Portfolio

WE CREATED A UNIQUE VEHICLE. IT TRANSFERS FrOM A GROUND TRACK TO AN OVERHEAD ONE, WITH PISTONS TO SIMULATE FLIGHT AND ACCENT THE TURNS.

Page 14: My Design Portfolio

ALCATRAZ ISLAND

THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE WANTED TO MAKE ALCATRAZ HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE FOR ITS USERS. THE

DESIGN HAS A TRAM SYSTEM IN PARTS THAT COULD NOT BE CHANGED WITHOUT ADVERSELY AFFECTING ITS HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE. IN ALL OTHER AREAS THE ROADS AND PATHS WERE CHANGED to be SEVEN

PERCENT and under.

Page 15: My Design Portfolio
Page 16: My Design Portfolio

CONSTRUCTED

THROUGH THE PROCESS OF BUILDING I HAVE FOUND OUT HOW THINGS GO TOGETHER AND MAKE ME TAKE MY DESIGN ONE STEP FURTHER OFF OF

THE PAPER AND INTO REALITY OF THE BUILT WORLD. IT IS VERY EASY TO

WANT SOMETHING ON PAPER, BUT VERY CHALLENGING TO MAKE 2 DIMENSIONS

INTO 3 DIMENSIONS AND STILL LOOK AND FUNCTION THE WAY I INTENDED IT TO BE.

Page 17: My Design Portfolio

STUDIO DESK SHELF

IT IS A SADDLEBAG SHELF TO GO OVER THE SHARED PIN UP BOARDS. THEY HOLD LOADS OF UP TO 65 LBS, BUT WORK BEST WHEN THE WEIGHT IS EVENLY DISTRIBUTED. THE SHELf Was ALL HAND FABRICATED BY MYSELF.
