MX VIRTUAL

MULTI-SENSOR DETECTORS MX VIRTUAL DETECTOR FEATURES:

MX Virtual Multi-Sensor detectors allow the bestdetection mode for the situation to be selected,without having to physically change the detector.

By utilising dual sensors (photoelectric smoke andheat, or CO and heat) the detection algorithms cancombine two components in different ways toachieve optimum detection.

Virtual Detection Modes

! Smoke or CO detection only! Heat-enhanced Smoke/CO detection only! Smoke/CO plus heat detection! Heat-enhanced smoke/CO plus heat detection! Heat detection only! Heat detection can be fixed temperature,

or include rate-of-rise.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY DETECTORS –

MX detectors are made from recyclable materialsand can be returned to Tyco for recycling.

SELF-VERIFICATION –

Built-in self-verification enables a detector’s abilityto detect fire to be confirmed. Testing of alldetectors is automatically performed daily. Alldetectors (or just those in a particular zone) can also be tested manually.

MX DETECTION ALGORITHMS

MX FASTLOGIC algorithm uses “fuzzy logic” todifferentiate between the smoke and temperaturepatterns of real fires and those of a deceptivephenomena. MX FASTLOGIC is available for bothphotoelectric smoke and heat-enhanced photoelectricsmoke detection modes.

MX SMARTSENSE detection algorithm features field-proven reliable detection, optimised for localconditions. All detection modes are available withSMARTSENSE, along with a wider range ofprogrammable sensitivity settings is available for all detector types.

Both the FASTLOGIC and SMARTSENSE algorithmsare carried out by the system software. This hasseveral advantages:

HEAT ENHANCED SMOKE

DETECTION MODES

These algorithms are based on the highly acclaimedHigh Performance Optical (HPO) detector in whichTyco uses temperature enhancement and processingto provide a universal detector with a flat responseto different fire types.

The HPO algorithm responds well to fires whereionisation detectors are traditionally used, at thesame time it is less sensitive to tests where opticalalarms can trigger too quickly.

With over one million HPO detectors installed duringthe 1990s it has proved to be a reliable, environmentallyfriendly detection method, which significantly reducesdeceptive phenomena from smoke detectors.

Detection performance and deceptive phenomenarejection can be further enhanced by the ability toapply MX FASTLOGIC to heat enhanced detection.

Figure 1 illustrates how CO fire detectors perform when detectingfires started in confined areas with the detector in the room. Herethe CO detector picks up a fire in a wardrobe 25 minutes before thewardrobe bursts into flames, thus setting off the smoke detectors. Bythis time CO levels are off the graph at nearly 500ppm – a level thatquickly causes drowsiness and lethargy.

Figure 2 shows the advantages of using CO fire detection for detectingslow smouldering fires. The CO detectors at floor and ceiling levelhave both gone into alarm before sufficient smoke has entered thesmoke detectors for any significant measurement to take place.

FIRE DETECTION

The MX CO detector saves lives through earlydetection of smouldering fires.

This detector uses temperature compensation toachieve a consistent response to levels of carbonmonoxide over a wide range of ambient temperatures.

The optical heat enhanced mode increases theresponse of the CO detector to faster developingfires where more complete combustion is takingplace. In this mode the alarm threshold for CO isreduced depending on the rate of temperature rise.

This results in reliable detection of smouldering firesand excellent immunity to sources of unwantedalarms for smoke detectors.

By utilising the heat sensor as a separate signal, the MX CO detector can operate as a CO fire detectorand a heat detector simultaneously, thus allowing twodetectors to be installed in the place of one. The MXCO detector can therefore detect a wide range of fireswhile providing a very low rate of unwanted alarms.
