Safe and Effective Use of PesticidesWhen application of pesticides is deemed necessary, particularly for the control of weeds, every effort is made

to ensure that they are properly applied. All operators are trained and provided with personal protectiveequipment. Practices are also in place to ensure proper storage of pesticides and disposal of used containers.

Musim Mas OSH Policy and Procedures are cascaded down to all employees and workers through trainingand workshops. Monitoring of OSH performance is through self assessment and audit.

Effluent TreatmentPalm oil mill effluents are treated biologically in a series of ponds for anaerobic and facultative digestionbefore discharge for land application. In some mills digested effluent is further treated using aerobic systemsto prepare the effluent to meet the standards for watercourse discharge. Routine intensive monitoring of

effluent quality is carried out to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Use of By-Products from MillsBy-products from the processing of FFB are used as fuel or applied as organic fertilizers. Palm fibre, empty

fruit bunches (EFB) and kernel shell are used as solid fuel for the mills. EFBs are also applied in the fields asmulch. Treated palm oil mill effluent (POME) is also a source of plant nutrients.
