The students can use symbols and are encouraged to use a mixture of

notes and rests. Students can be challenged to harmonise two beats simultaneously, or create beats with

varying pitch i.e. low and high sounds on the piano.

This means students can learn how to categorise or sort the instruments

into specific groups. 

Students who require additional support, may use the rhythm tree cards. The size of

the cards will help them determine which notes add to make a whole note i.e. add to

four for one measure
