Ok Go – Concept• Song: Needing/Getting:• This would be a concept video as they have recreated the way in which sound is
produced by using variety of materials to create instruments. These materials are set out on a course. The car is what plays the sound by driving through the course causing the various sounds to be produced and therefore creating music, for example they have set out a series of bins at an equal distance to create a beat. In order to do this the car is of course altered with a number of fittings to come into contact with the improvised instruments. This therefore doesn’t follow a narrative structure as it does not contain any form of story line that we as an audience can follow. It therefore follows the lines of concept as it is primarily ideas put together in order to create music.
Taylor Swift-Narrative• Song: You Belong With Me• This is clearly a narrative piece as the footage follows the story of the
lyrics of the song, a Hollywood theme of romance. The story is about a teen girl whose crush appears not to take any notice of her. Taylor Swift, the lead singer, is not actually singing in the video but instead takes the part of the lead character of the teen girl; she is part of the story. This in itself points to it being a narrative production and not a concept of performance video.
David Crowder band• Song: How He Loves• This would have to be a performance video as it is presented as though they are on
stage playing in front of a large audience. The setup is based in the basement or attic of a house in the traditional fashion as seen at concerts. The concert feel means it creates a strong performance feel even though the setting is in an attic or basement of a house. The fact that the lead singer constantly breaks the forth wall makes it feel more personal and therefore emphasises the feel of him performing at a concert. It could be said that they are performing for a large audience on the web.
