4 LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

I recently posted to a social website a photo ofseven or eight of my young friends in a “dog-pile.” Poor Tristan was so far under the pile, the only part of him that was visible wasthe lower part of one leg. I tagged him inthe photo anyway.

You’ll note that I was not a part of thedogpile. But I did yell “DOGPILE”when Tristan was laying on a bunchof pillows in the youth room, andall his friends – and even a coupleof exchange students fromEurope – promptly flung them-selves on him.

That photo has generated a tonof “likes” and comments online.Seems that the kids like seeingthemselves, and their parents like ittoo!

Because I take a giddy delight in the craziness ofteenagers, and even encourage their antics, they seem to like meback. That’s a key reason I’ve been able to hang in there in youthministry all these years. I love teenagers. I love their energy, enthu-siasm, and quirks. You just gotta love ’em if you’re going to beeffective in youth ministry.

While an affinity for teenagers is a prerequisite for effectiveness, having cool resources to use when teaching them Biblical truthdoesn’t hurt. That’s where this Music Video Loop DVD and accom-panying Bible studies can really help! ThemeEmotions

ObjectiveWe often feel the need to keep our emotions in and not let others see how we are feeling or what we are going through. The objective of this lesson is to show students we need to find a healthy way to release our emotions.

Warm UpHave students stand together. Give them objects that make a LOT of noise (pots, pans, noise makers) and encour-age them to scream. Give the group one minute to make as much noise as they can!

TransitionAsk the students “How do you feel now? Do you ever wish you could just let it all out? We are now going to watch a video of ‘Release the Panic’ by the band RED.”

The VideoHand out the Student Guides. During the time the students are watching the video, have them write down the things that would make them panic if they were in the video.

TransitionAsk for volunteers to read what they wrote during the video. Ask, “What would have made you panic during the video? Now, what makes you panic in your life?” Explain that we ALL have times when we are overwhelmed and want to scream. Ask, “What makes you feel like this?” (You may have to start this discussion by telling students what stresses you and how you deal with those situations.)

Bible StudyRead 1 Kings 3:16-28 aloud to the group. Work your way through these discussion questions:

•How much stress do you think both of these women are under? (Talk to the students about the lying, the stealing, and how much stress these sins can put on their lives, and how much stress it has put on these women.)

•Who did they go see? (Solomon)

•What did they spend a lot of time doing while in front of him? (v.22, yell-ing and fighting with each other.)

•What was Solomon’s order? (To cut the baby in half.)

•What kind of emotions do you think were going through the mother’s heart and head when Solomon said that?

•What did Solomon show in the way he dealt with this emotional confron-tation? (Wisdom)

•Although we hopefully will never be in a place where our child is in danger of being cut in half or be in place of deciding the fate of an infant, we do deal with very emotional issues every day. How did the mother of the baby that passed away deal with her emo-tions? (By stealing and lying, almost causing the death of another infant.)

•How did the mother of the surviving baby deal with her emotions? (By showing love – she did not want her baby cut in half.)

•How did Solomon deal with being in charge of the emotional situation? (Used wisdom.)

•Which one of these people do you most relate to when you are in an emotional situation? Are you wise and understanding? Do you come to people with love and try to work it out? Or do you hurt others in an attempt to deal with your emotions?

•We often let our emotions get the best of us – we hold them in, make our stom-achs hurt, hurt others, and just become miserable. What are some healthy ways we can deal with our emotions?

•Which three people do you feel that you can talk to when your emotions overwhelm you? (Have them write those names on their Student Guides.)

Wrap UpSince you’re a teenager, many people will tell you that you are ruled by your emotions. However, I tell you that as a Christian teenager, you are ruled by God. Don’t hide from your emotions – emotions are good, but do not let them rule you either. Keep your list of people you can talk to close to your heart and go to them when you feel overwhelmed by what you are going through.

Introduction

“Clearly, there is a need to treat Biblical illiteracy in this country with all the urgency of a medical emergency.” – George Gallup, Jr.

“Bible reading has become the religious equivalent of sound-bite journalism. When people read from the Bible they typically open it, read a brief passage without much regard for the context, and consider the primary thought or feel-ing that the passage provided. If they are comfortable with it, they accept it; otherwise, they deem it interesting but irrelevant to their life, and move on.” – The Barna Group

The amazing popularity of The American Bible Challenge and other current faith-based TV shows demonstrates that Americans are very interested in the Bible, have a healthy respect for it, and want to know more about it. That’s great news!

However, being interested in the Bible isn’t the same as knowing what the Bible teaches. By any measure, the world we live in is far more secular and unaware of Scripture than ever. We’re even at risk of losing the Biblical underpinnings of popular cultural phrases like

“brother’s keeper,” “turn the other cheek,” “the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak,” and others. When asked whether a certain phrase came from Shakespeare or the Bible, most people can only guess.

That’s one reason we are excited that you’ve become an “Insider” for The American Bible Challenge on GSN. Teenagers love watching television, and a game show is an easy format to use with young people to help them become more Biblically literate. Make no mistake, this is important! Without a Biblical foundation, the lives of our young friends are like the foolish man who built his house on the sand.

Anything we can do, anything we can do, to help teen-agers to discover the timeless truth and life-building support in God’s Word is worth doing with everything we’ve got!

In this American Bible Challenge “Behind The Scenes” Youthworker Guide, and the accompanying videos on the Music Video Loop 81 DVD, you will find all kinds of resources for you to use to maximize the opportunity that The American Bible Challenge represents.

These resources are just part of the process. Each week during the seasonal run of TABC, “Insider” emails with ideas and resources are being sent to youth leaders like yourself who want to make the most of the opportunity that the show provides.

Your willingness to become an American Bible Chal-lenge Insider is a real encouragement to all of us here at interlínc. We pray that you, and for your students, will experience God’s blessing as you get involved with Scripture! THE AmERICAN BIBLE CHALLENGE 9

TABC Youth Ministry IdeasWatching The Show With A GroupYou may never have watched a television game show with a bunch of teenagers before, and might be wondering just how you might go about doing it. Since the show airs on Thursday eve-ning, you probably won’t be at the church, but in someone’s living room. Here are some pointers for enjoying The American Bible Challenge with your youth group.

Hook up your television/projector and sound system to watch the show. If you had a Superbowl party a couple of months ago, you probably have the technology already figured out. One group uses an iPad (with an app from their cable company that allows them to watch live television on the iPad) wirelessly streaming to an AppleTV device that’s hooked into a home entertainment system.

Break your group into “teams” – Give each team a bell or something they can use to signal that they have an answer to the quiz question. They’ll have to be fast – they’ll need to answer before the televised contestants can.

Award prizes – You know the drill about prizes, right? Never tell what the prize is until the end of the game (unless you’re able to score an amazing prize!)

Debrief – When the show is over, have some discussion around these kinds of questions:

•What question stumped you?

•Were there any surprises in the show?

•Why is knowing the Bible important?

Expanding The Experience Into The WeekEvery youth leader knows that a single event doesn’t do much life change, but repeated involve-ment helps. So, this week try to send a daily Ameri-can Bible Challenge text to your students. You can even make a game out of it – with the first person texting back the correct answer getting a prize at your next meeting. Just be careful to avoid sending texts during school hours! Here are some sugges-tions for this week:

•??? in the Lord with all your heart, and ??? not on your own understanding.

•What was the Latin name of the hill where Jesus died?

•Which tree in the Garden of Eden was off limits?

•itwas450feetby75feetby75feet,andwater-proof. What was it?

•??? yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the ??? of your heart.

•What did the Philistines capture from the Jews, and then give back?

•“Whoever wants to be my disciple must ??? them-selves, take up their ??? and follow Me.”

Running Your Own Version Of The ShowAren’t you just dying to find a way to run your own version of The American Bible Challenge with your entire group? There’s an easy way to do it, and there’s a COOL way to do it.

Both WaysForm representative teams of three participants – guys vs. girls, class vs. class, blondes vs. brunettes, righty’s vs. lefty’s – whatever works for your group. You want a couple of teams to compete against each other, with maybe other teams waiting their chance. Place the teams on opposite sides of your stage. Provide each team with some kind of device (bell, aoogha horn, fingerblaster, air horn, whatever) for them to signal that they have an answer.

COOL WayHook your iPhone/iPad or Android device into you projection and sound systems, and use the Ameri-can Bible Challenge app to run the game!

Easy WayDevelop a list of questions and/or Bible tasks to use. Use your phone’s countdown timer set to ten seconds. Ask the question or give the task, and start the timer. The first team with a correct answer or completed task scores massive points.

Divide & Conquer! The American Bible Challenge airs on Thursday nights at 9/8c on GSN, but you meet with your

entire group on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings, right? That’s not a problem! Here’s one way to work around it.

Set It UpWe’ve included a “trailer” for you to show to your group on Sunday morning and again at your mid-week meeting. Follow up the trailer with an announcement about the “Divide and Conquer” plan below. Then, on Thursday morning, send out a text to your students of the “sneak peek” question from this week’s show.

Divide and ConquerYou probably have some volunteer leaders working with you in your youth program, right? And those volunteers are responsible for a handful of teenag-ers each, right? And you’ve got nothing else going on this Thursday evening, right? Are you seeing where this is going?

Coordinate with your volunteers so that everyone’s having a “Wanna come over to my house and watch The American Bible Challenge?” evening. Work hard to get as many of your students in a leader’s home on Thursday evening.

Create Some CompetitionWhen all the kids are spread out into a bunch of locations, generate some good-natured com-petitive communication between the groups. You can use your group’s Facebook page to send and respond to comments, or even use texting between leaders. Teenagers have no problem “sharing” where they are and what they’re doing with the rest of the world, so use that trait to your advantage! Include photos and videos of the different groups so that the kids can tag themselves and each other.

There are even more youth ministry ideas and resourc-es available from each episode of The American Bible Challenge at interlinc-online.com/abcresources. If you haven’t already become an American Bible Challenge Youthworker “Insider” sign up at americanbiblechallenge.interlinc-online.com. This will get you resources from Season 2 of TABC and get you ready for Season 3.

Use the DVD VideosOn the Music Video Loop DVD are several videos that will be invaluable assets for your American Bible Challenge program. Here are some pointers on getting the most value from those videos.

“To God Be The Glory”Kirk Franklin is a well-known and very popular Grammy Award winning Gospel musician. He is the “musical co-host” of The American Bible Chal-lenge, and along with some very talented singers leads the “sing-along” sessions during the show. Included on the Music Video Loop 81 DVD is a taste of the music that is featured during the show. There are several ways that you can use this video; here are a few ideas:

•Transition Music – Show this video when you are moving from playing a game to the next part of your program. The funky beat is sure to get kids moving!

•Name That Hymn – Have a quick contest to see who can name the hymn that is being performed. Your students might be surprised that such an old hymn can sound so modern!

•Musical Chairs – Use this video for a quick ver-sion of the old standby game!

TrailerBe sure to show this trailer at each of your large group meetings – teenagers require repetition before an idea will sink in! You might even try to get this trailer shown during your church’s worship services too. You’ll be a hero for providing it!

God MomentsThe question asked at the beginning of this video is a great one for you to ask your young friends: Have there been any “God Moments” in your life? Too often we plow through our days, going from one thing to another, and fail to recognize what God is doing in us, around us, and through us. Use this video of Jeff Foxworthy’s answer to that question to begin a “God Moments” emphasis in your youth ministry. Encourage the students and your leaders to ask each other that question every time they see each other. Have them ask that question to the social media communities that they are a part of. Have them ask their parents that question too!

Important LessonsJeff Foxworthy isn’t just another well-known comedian – he’s a booming Christian too! In this short video, he highlights the important “summary” message that Jesus gave His disciples: love one another. Jeff says, “If we all just did that, it’d be a different world that we live in.”

Use this video the next time you teach on love to your group. Use John 13:34-35 as your start-ing point: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

THE AmERICAN BIBLE CHALLENGE 11

Bible StudyIncluded on the DVD is a “Bible Study” video that you can show to your students as a part of a teaching lesson about the “Vine and Branches” metaphor.

Warm UpVine & Branches Tag – Choose one person to be

“It.” This person represents Jesus as the vine and tries to tag other players. Instruct “It” to tag other players and then link arms with them creating

“branches.” They now work together to catch the others.

Continue linking arms and running after the players not yet caught. Anyone on the “vine” acting as “branches” can tag other players.

Watch the players and if their ability to catch others is inhibited by their desire to pull in multiple directions call a time out. During the time out explain that this is like life where people try to ignore Jesus and do their own thing, but it doesn’t work. They need to follow Jesus (It) and work as a team for strength.

The VideoIncluded on the DVD is a “Bible Study” video from the folks at The American Bible Challenge that you can use to introduce the lesson. There are many other Bible study videos available to show your group at gsntv.com/shows/the-american-bible-challenge. Show the video.

Bible StudyUse this outline to teach the basic concepts of Jesus’ lesson from John 15:1-8 that uses the metaphor of the vine and branches.

•Jesus’ Role: Provide(v.1,5)Jesusgivesuswhatwe need to live and thrive, just as the main trunk of a grapevine provides nutrients and water to its branches. His friends immediately knew what He was saying when He called Himself the “vine” – that He was the source of life for them. His role is to provide what we need.

•Our Role: Produce(v.2,5,8)Wearetotakewhat Jesus gives us, and create “fruit” from it. The “fruit” He mentions includes both a change

of how a person thinks and acts (you might refer to the “Fruit of the Spirit” that Paul lists in Galatians 5:22-23), and the people he or she influences for God.

•Our Task: Abide(v.4-7)noticehowmanytimesJesus used the word “remain” in this passage. The old King James Version of the Bible used the word “abide” to convey the sense of connected-ness with Jesus that we must maintain. We want to avoid being removed from the vine because we don’t produce fruit. Often, the branches that look the best have put all their effort into creating leaves, not fruit. On the other hand, we should expect that God will “prune” us so that we’ll pro-duce more “fruit.” Our task is to remain connected to Jesus!

Wrap UpEncourage your students to take this metaphor of a vine and branches and consider how it plays itself out in their daily activities and relationships. You might hand out some “vine and branches” snacks – like Red Vine candy, or grapes, etc. – as you close.

ThemeDetermination

ObjectiveStudents will be inspired to overcome their limitations through faith and determination.

NoteI’ve known Patrick Ivison for several years. His family goes to my home church, and I’ve participated in several “Help Patrick Walk” fundraisers. (Patrick was paralyzed from the neck down as a two-year-old toddler.) As he’s grown from a dweeb into a stud, I’ve been stoked to see his faith grow too. His determination to walk across the stage at graduation has been an inspiration to many people. His video should be an encouragement and motivation for your students to overcome their own limitations.

Warm UpMind Over Matter – If you have a large group, divide into three groups and have a group at each “event” and then rotate the groups when they’ve completed one event to the next one. Otherwise, take your group through the three exercises. Run the three events until everyone has had a chance to do each one.• “Heavy Lifting” – One participant stands between two others

and holds his or her arms stiffly at his or her sides. The other two participants grab the forearm with both hands and attempt to lift the student. The student must keep his or her arms straight, but does whatever he or she can to not be lifted.

• “Arm Break” – Two participants face each other. One places an outstretched arm on the shoulder of the other, palm up. The other participant uses both hands places near the crook of the elbow to try to make the arm bend. The pulling should only take a few seconds before the arm bends or doesn’t. (Don’t let it go any longer than that – we don’t want any injuries.)

• “Match Mouth” – Participants light a match and place it in their mouth until it is extinguished. The key is to move fast and close the lips securely around the matchstick. (Believe me. This is totally safe.)

TransitionDo some debriefing about the three exercises. Explain that each one was a test of your determination. “Match Mouth” made you deal with a lifetime of being told not to burn yourself. “Arm Break” was a test of strength (of the puller) and resolve (of the straight-armed player). “Heavy Lifting” was a test of will and teamwork.

The VideoTell the students that you’ll show them a video of a teenager who has learned to let his faith strengthen his determination. Show the video of Patrick Ivison.

Bible Study

Patrick’s determination to walk across the stage at graduation is much like the Apostle Paul’s determination to go to Jerusalem, despite repeated warnings. Read Acts 20:22-24; 21:4, 10-14 aloud to the group, then use this outline for your teaching.

The Goal Is Worth The Effort – Pay close attention to what Paul said: “I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.” (v.24) Whoa. Read that again. We know of athletes who endure incredible hardship to win a medal, or of hikers who have to handle extreme conditions to stand on a mountain peak. Not many people are willing to put out such huge effort to testify to the good news of God’s grace. Patrick has been working HARD to be able to walk across the stage at graduation. What great goal makes you determined to do anything possible to achieve success?

Obeying God Is Better Than Pleasing Others – Note that Paul was “compelled by the Spirit” to go to Jerusalem (v.22) and, in a seeming contradiction, confronted by other believers who “through the Spirit” pleaded for him not to go (v.4). Even a prophet spoke for the Holy Spirit, telling Paul that he’d be in for a world of hurt in Jerusalem (v.11). But, Paul’s response was clear: he was ready to go and even die “for the name of the Lord Jesus.” (v.13) Paul knew that any hardship and difficulty he experienced would only further God’s reputation. Think back over your last week; what happened to you that enhanced Jesus’ reputation to others?

Our Limitations Are No Big Deal To God – The image of Paul hands and feet being bound should remind us of Patrick Ivison’s situation. However, although Paul was indeed bound, beaten, harassed, and abused (the story is told in the next couple of chapters of Acts), he got to tell the rulers of Israel all about God’s love, grace, and mercy. Even while bound! That’s amazing! Furthermore, Paul was richly rewarded for his effort. Acts 23:11 says, “The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, ‘Take courage! As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, you must also testify in Rome.’” Can you imagine?! God Himself stood there! We can be assured that God will be present when we make Him known even though we are “bound” by fear, assaulted by ridicule, or beaten by intolerance.

Wrap UpGive the students a few minutes to silently work on the Wrap Up section of the Student Guide, and then close in prayer.

Patrick Ivison’s Story

Acts 20:22-24; 21:4, 10-14

The _________________ Is Worth The ________________

Pay close attention to what Paul said in verse 24. Read that again.

What great goal makes you determined to do anything possible to achieve success?

_____________ God Is Better Than _____________ Others

What was the “contradiction” in verse 22 compared to verse 4?

Write Paul’s response (v.13) in your own words.

Think back over your last week; what happened to you that enhanced Jesus’ reputation to others?

Our _______________ Are No Big Deal To ______________

What was Paul able to do even though his hands and feet were bound?

How was Paul richly rewarded for his effort? (Read Acts 23:11)

We can be assured that God’s will be present when we make Him know even though we are “bound” by fear, assaulted by ridicule, or beaten by intolerance.

Wrap UpThink through these questions prayerfully, and write your answers as honestly as you can.

Paul’s goal was to “testify to the good news of God’s grace.” His goal meant that he had to work hard, enduring hardship, and even face death. Do you have a goal like that – a goal that is bigger than yourself and might require massive effort to achieve? If you do, write it down. If you don’t, start praying for one.

When have you backed off from talking about Jesus because you didn’t want to experience a negative reaction?

What can you do to have more courage and boldness to represent Him to your friends?

You might not be “bound” like Paul, or have physical challenges like Patrick, but you do have situations, fears, and limitations that threaten to keep you from “testifying to the good news of God’s grace.” Identify a couple of those limitations, and then pray that by faith and determination God will help you overcome them.

ThemeIncoming freshmen, for the first time in their lives, will have the opportunity to choose their social networks. Previously, friend-ships were created for them – they just seemed to happen natu-rally around the kids they grew up with, played sports with, sat with in homeroom, etc. Now students need to learn the skill of searching for, finding, pursuing, and building quality relationships. This video is part of the “CollegeReady” materials. You can find more great resources like this one at collegeready.com.

ObjectiveGrads will learn about the opportunity of choosing with whom to build close relationships, and will understand the value of empow-ering friendships.

NoteThis six-minute video clip incorporates an intro voice over seg-ment that explains the Empowering Friendships theme. You might choose to start at 1:43 of the video clip to avoid this introduction. The clip is available at interlinc-online.com/grad/grads/contents/grad2013/artist-speakers/college-ready. Any questions, call 800-725-3300 or email [email protected].

Warm UpStart a discussion about choices in life by talking about the things that were chosen for you by your folks when you were younger, but now you have the opportunity to choose for yourself. Use a chalkboard or a large sheet of paper to list similar choices that students can add. (Example: clothes, food, movies, music, time to go to bed, etc.)

TransitionAfter creating the list, discuss:• Now that you’re away from home, how much freedom of choice

do you have?• Is freedom of choice a privilege that is earned or a right that

comes by being on your own? What is the difference and why did you pick the statement you did?

The VideoHand out the Student Guides and explain that while we did get to choose our friends, they were chosen out of those we just happened to be around. Now, as we enter college, we have a completely different opportunity and responsibility to choose our friends. Show the video.

Transition• Can you remember your best friend from 2nd grade? Are you

still friends with that person?• John Bryson on the video said, “Life is a team sport. Your circle

of friends will determine, to a large extent, your future path-ways.” How have you seen the truth of that statement?

• How would you describe what “Relational Passivity” is?• What makes someone your friend?• What kind of friend would you say you are?

Bible StudyUse these Scriptures and discussion questions to guide you through the Bible Study time of your meeting. Have the students look up the verses and then write the answers to the questions before you discuss the Scriptures as a group.

1 Corinthians 15:33 – We can only live life at a high level, and stay there, with a band of good brothers and sisters around us.• Restate this verse by making it a positive statement instead of

the negative one.• Why do you think people of “good” character are sometimes at-

tracted to “bad” characters?• What qualities would you notice in someone of “good” character?

Proverbs 17:17; 18:24 – The kinds of friendships we build can either be shallow or authentic.• Do you have a friend that is closer than family? What does that

kind of relationship feel like?• What is the difference between a shallow friendship and an au-

thentic friendship?• Why is the wise person cautious in friendships? What does the

Scripture say will happen if you are unwise?

Proverbs 12:26; 27:6 – We need “empowering” friendships that build us up.• Rewrite 12:26 in your own words.• What are “wounds” from a friend?• How can you know if you can trust the hurt you experience

from a friend?

Wrap UpDiscuss:• What’s the common theme from all the Bible passages

about friendship?• How are you allowing those close to you to really know you?• What steps can you take to move your friendships from shallow

to real and create trust and accountability?

Worldview

Theme“Worldview” is a comprehensive conception of the universe and humankind’s relation to it. A Biblical worldview focuses on the big, basic issues: the existence of God, the nature of reality, the exis-tence and knowability of absolute truth, and the moral and ethical implications of these and other primary questions. The “world-view” that incoming freshmen will encounter in college will be, in many ways, at cross purposes with a Christian worldview. The vid-eo is an excerpt from a powerful student Bible study series called “Next Chapter” that offers fourteen weeks of Scripture study, vid-eos, application, resources, and ways to connect with others who will help make the transition out of high school a success. Check out “Next Chapter” resources at nextchapter.bgco.org.

ObjectiveFreshmen will be motivated to be prepared to handle the opposi-tion they will experience to their Christian faith.

NoteThis session is built around a video that is available here:interlinc-online.com/grad/grads/contents/grad2013/artist-speakers/nextchapter Any questions, call 800-725-3300 or email [email protected].

Warm UpAgree/Disagree – Gather the group into the middle of the room. Explain that you will read a statement. Those who agree with the statement move to the right side of the room, and those who dis-agree with it move to the left. There is no middle ground. When you have read a statement and the students have chosen a side, call on a few students from each side to explain their thinking. Use provocative statements such as:• Every word of the Bible is literally true.• You can’t prove the existence of God.• What a person believes is truth – for that person.• Faith means believing in something you can’t see.• Evolution is incompatible with Christianity.• Etc.

TransitionDiscuss how truth is not relative, and yet we live in a society that has a vastly different worldview from that of believers. That world-view will be very prominent and persuasive in college.

The VideoShow the video.

TransitionDiscuss the students’ reactions to the video. Have they ever expe-rienced anything like what the video portrayed? If so, let them tell their stories.

Bible StudyHand out the Student Guides. Use this outline to teach the Bible Study, and encourage the students to take notes. Encourage group discussion around the questions under each point.

Christianity doesn’t make sense – (1 Corinthians 1:27) – God’s way of thinking is not the world’s way.• What are some “foolish things of the world” that God uses?• What are some “weak things of the world” that God uses?• Why does Christianity pose such a threat to the contemporary

way of thinking?

Christianity does make sense – (1 Corinthians 15:32) – Jesus’ resurrection is proof enough.• How is your life more than what you experience here on earth?• How does Jesus’ resurrection prove the viability of Christianity?• Put Paul’s way of stating today’s worldview into your own words.

Christianity won’t make sense unless you know your stuff – (2 Timothy 4:2) – The reason God has us here is to share the good news, to correct false thinking, to rebuke those who’ve crossed the line, and to encourage each other to hang tough.• What can you do to prepare yourself in your first year

on campus?• Why is “correcting” someone considered wrong today?• Have you ever been rebuked? Want to tell that story?• Note the last two words: “careful instruction.”

What would you need to be able to do what this verse says?

Wrap UpExplain that having faith in God is reasonable, not nonsensical. Jesus is a historical figure, who died, was buried, and came back to life. No one can explain the empty tomb except that Jesus was resurrected. Since He did come back to life, He validated everything He did and said, and proved that He is God.Close in a prayer.

THOUSAND FOOT KRUTCH

ThemeGrowth

ObjectiveStudents will understand that when they are committed to Christ, changes begin to happen in their hearts that cause them to reexamine all that they stand for and all that they do.

Warm UpHave a discussion about things that eventually change into something else. (No, this is not a discussion on evolution!) Have your group brainstorm twenty things that can start as one thing and eventu-ally become something different. Examples could be a tadpole to a frog, or a seed (or a bud) to a flower. Take time during your discussion to note that not all these things that change do so easily; the process is time- and energy-consuming, but the results are pretty amazing.

TransitionExplain that change is bound to hap-pen in different places. We all start off as babies and then experience child-hood, adolescence, and adulthood. Change can happen in our hearts and minds as well. We hear, read, or see something that causes us to rethink what we had known previously – and a transformation occurs. However, sometimes change doesn’t occur eas-ily. Many times when we go through a change, it causes a mini struggle in our brain and a war is waged between both viewpoints inside our mind. That’s what’s known as a “paradigm shift.”

The VideoShare with the students a new song from the band Thousand Foot Krutch called “War of Change.” The video was put up on YouTube just a couple of months ago and it already has over 100,000 views. As you watch the video, listen to the lyrics that share about this idea of change that occurs when these important life-changing battles rage inside of us. Ask the group to listen for keys words that they hear that talk about this idea of change. Also, have the group watch for visuals that also point to this idea. Show the video.

TransitionAsk the students what they heard in the song that stuck out to them. Ask what they saw in the video that was related to the theme of growth and shifts in their previous way of thinking. Some of the words they might come up with are, “A war going on inside of me”, “Everything’s about to change”, “I want to live like I know I’m dying.” Some of the images they might share are: lights flickering on and off, falling ash, and masks. Have a brief discussion on what some of those words and images might mean.

Bible StudyIf the group is large, have them split into three groups and give each group one of the following verses. If your group is small, stay together and work through the following verses together as a group. Have students look up the following verses and relay back to the entire group what the verses are direct-ing us to do.

The Bible Growth Diet:

•Psalm 139:1-4 (Let the Lord search our hearts)

•Ephesians 4:22-24 (Put off the old self)

•Philippians 4:8 (Think about the excellent and praiseworthy things)

•Jeremiah 6:16 (Walk in the path God has laid out, and find rest)

Wrap UpExplain that God wants each one of us to experience blessings, growth, and prosperity – not the financial kind (although that might be included), but the type where we look at our lives and think it couldn’t get any better. We have good friends, family, and knowl-edge of how much our Savior Jesus loves us. Remind the students that ideas like that run contrary to the world and that we must learn those things in order for us to experience the life that God has planned for us.

Challenge the students to consider what they truly hold sacred and to pray about whether those things are really important to God. If they find they are not, then be bold and put those things aside and instead find something else that will please God in that old thing’s place.

In closing, have students watch the video again. Afterwards, have them write down one thing they can pos-sibly reexamine in their own life that maybe God wants them to give up in order that they might move forward in their walk with Him. Close the group in prayer.

LECRAE

Theme Deceit

ObjectiveStudents will be challenged to not just talk the talk, but to also walk the walk. We can’t just talk a big game, but we have to actually be genuine in what we say by doing what we preach.

Warm UpTwo Truths and a Lie – Choose a hand-ful of students to volunteer in front of the whole group. Have those students come up with two truths about them-selves (the more outrageous the better because people will be more apt in thinking it’s a lie) and one lie (the more believable, the better). Other students in the group will try to figure out which statement is the lie and which are the truths. Hopefully, a few students will have some really great stories of their truths that people thought were lies and vice versa. (Note: Remind stu-dents that this is just a game, and that we don’t allow lying.)

TransitionDiscuss: Why did some of the lies seem like truths? What was the most shocking truth that most thought was a lie? Why is it hard to tell if someone is lying? What if you actu-ally witnessed what the student did or didn’t do. You would know the truth by their actions, right?

The VideoExplain that this video by Lecrae depicts how society is oftentimes full of big talk with no substance behind the claims. People often wear masks to hide who they truly are in hopes of impressing others and to try and cover their own insecurities. Show the video and have students fill out the Fakin’ portion of their handout.

TransitionHave the students share some things that stood out in the video. Ask, “Did you think the car was real?” Use this example to show how easy it is for us to base our beliefs on what we see on the outside and how often it can mis-lead us. Say, “The Bible tells us that some of us are ‘Fakin’ our relationship with Christ; instead of actually having a relationship with Him, some people use ‘Christian’ as a label instead of a relationship/lifestyle.”

Bible StudyHave the students fill out the He Said What!? section of the Student guide while you read Matthew 7:21-23 (NIV) aloud. (the kingdom of heaven, does the will, Many, prophesy, drive out demons, miracles, never knew) Discuss:

•Why do you think Jesus would men-tion this to the people who were around Him?

•How do you think people respond-ed to what He said? Tell students to finish reading the rest of the chapter. (the crowd was amazed at His teachings)

•What do YOU think about this verse? Does it freak you out, make you feel guilty? Does it put a fire in your heart to reach your friends who claim they are following Christ but act differ-ently? Explain.

Take time to discuss why it’s important to not just know about Jesus, but to actually know Him - to walk the walk rather than just talk the talk.

Have students fill out the Heart Check section on the Student Guide. (Explain that this is between them and the Lord – no one else.)

Wrap UpEnd with a prayer that each student will truly examine their hearts to see if they are “fakin’” a relationship with Christ. Challenge students to live out their faith daily. Pray also for strength to be real with their peers about follow-ing Christ.

ThemeLife; Purpose/Meaning

ObjectiveStudents will see that trusting God will give purpose and meaning for their lives.

Warm UpGather students in a circle and ask,

“Who has played Truth or Dare? What is the craziest thing you have been asked to do in Truth or Dare? How reckless would you say that was?”

Now grab another youth leader and ask him or her to play the Trust Fall game with you. Act as if you are side-tracked and start talking about some-thing else while you are telling them how to play. While you are explaining things walk off making the students think you are really going to let them fall. But, of course, catch them!

TransitionAsk, “Would you say that teenagers are known for doing some pretty reck-less things? We are going to listen to a song by Jeremy Camp called “Reck-less.” (Show a picture of Jeremy.) Does he look like a reckless person?”

The VideoHand out the Student Guides. Play Jeremy Camp’s “Reckless” music video for the students. While they are watching and listening to the song have them write down the chorus of the song when they hear it.

TransitionJeremy sings about how we play it safe. How difficult is just letting go of what the world expects and putting your faith in God and doing what He wants? Let’s look at some other peo-ple who have done just that. Do you think people in the Bible had a hard time just letting go and following God’s will for their lives?

Bible StudyWhat would you think if I told you that Justin Beiber was giving up all his fame to follow God? We will look at a person who had it all like Justin Beiber but walked away to follow what God had planned for him.

Kirk Cameron. Ever heard the name? What do you know about Kirk? (Showa45-secondclipofKirkasayoung television actor: youtube.com/watch?v=UQiRpt_-ZCU) After watch-ing the link talk to the kids about how big Kirk was in the ’90’s.

Do you know what Kirk Cameron does now? (Show a bit of Kirk witnessing for Jesus in this video: youtube.com/watch?v=gqNDdCzOGTI) How hard would it be to have everything you ever wanted and walk away from it to lead others to Christ? Do you think people would say that was a reckless thing to do?

Luke 18:24-34

•We spend a lot of time talking about the rich young man who went away sad, but what about the disciples?

•What did Peter say they gave up to follow God?

•Do you think their families thought they were reckless, leaving their homes and families to follow Christ?

•What does Christ say people will earn for following Him?

Jeremiah 29:11

•What assurance does this give us?

•Jeremy Camp says, “The promise of Your Word is all I need. I’ll lay my life down and give it up.” Can we be reckless enough to give up our plans to follow God’s plans for us?

Wrap UpWe may not be rich and famous like Kirk Cameron, but God is calling us to the same thing he called Kirk for: to give up our plans and follow His. God wants us all to be reckless. He wants us to trust Him enough that we let Him give our life purpose –not chasing our own dreams and worldly ambi-tions, but following His purpose for us. Unlike the Trust Fall you saw earlier, God is always there to lean on!

JEREmY CAmP

The Chorus Luke 18:24-34We spend a lot of time talking about the rich young man who went away sad, but what about the disciples?

What did Peter say they gave up to follow God?

Do you think their families thought they were reckless, leaving their homes and families to follow Christ?

What does Christ say people will earn for follow-ing Him?

Jeremiah 29:11What assurance does this give us?

Jeremy Camp says, “The promise of Your Word is all I need. I’ll lay my life down and give it up.” Can we be reckless enough to give up our plans to follow God’s plans for us?

ThemeCourage

ObjectiveThis lesson will help participants dis-cover that the courage to handle life’s challenges and obstacles comes from God – with the reward being a deeper faith and eternal life.

Warm Up Hand out the Student Guides. Direct the group’s attention to the Eeeeeek! section. Give the students five minutes to work independently to complete the assignment and then come back together. Follow with these questions:

•What is your biggest fear?

•In what situation do you feel most courageous where some others may be fearful?

•What circumstances in life affect why we might be fearful in some situa-tions and not others?

TransitionSay, “Each of us faces challenges and obstacles. These circumstances test our faith and often cause anxiety or fear. Today we are going to discover that the courage to handle these times comes from God. The reward of our courage is a deeper faith and eternal life.”

The VideoHave the students complete the Raise Your Claymores High section of the Student Guide as they watch and listen.

TransitionWhen the song has finished have dif-ferent people in the group offer a few of their responses. Discuss the ques-tions below as a way of reflecting on the lyrics:

•What imagery is used in this song?

•What is the central message of the words?

•What do you think the writer meant by, “It’s the beautiful stench of reinvention?”

Say something like, “The writer of this song says, ‘In the process of writing this record I came to find out that my Irish ancestor came from a region known to have many soldiers who fought in the Irish Brigade of the Civil war. This inspired me to write an Irish-infused battle song, using the metaphor of David and Goliath.’ In this Biblical story, God gave the boy, David, courage to fight his battle. Let’s see what we discover about courage in our own lives.”

Bible Study1 Samuel 17 – This is a great story but a long chapter. You may choose from the following possible options:

•Summarize most of the story and read some parts.

•Read the whole chapter as a group using different readers.

•Split youth into smaller groups and have them read the whole chapter on their own.

Once the passage has been read or summarized, have the students work individually or in smaller groups (if you decided to use that format) on the A Little Boy with a Big Heart section of the Student Guide. Give themabout5-10minutestoworkthrough the assignment and then come back together. Let the group share their findings and then follow up with these questions:

•Why do you think this passage describes Goliath’s armor in such detail?

•What experiences gave David confi-dence to fight Goliath, a man of such height and strength?

•What most amazed you about David going into battle against Goliath?

Wrap UpSay something like, “If people were betting on the outcome of the fight between David and Goliath, very few would have put their money on David. The odds were clearly against him. How many times have we looked at the tests of life and feel there is no possibility of a positive outcome? Like David we are called to remem-ber the ‘battle is the Lord’s’ and that God fights for us.”

Close this time by having the youth turn to the My Giants section of their Student Guide. Give the students a few moments to prayerfully consider their own obstacles.

Finish the time together by hav-ing your group share their “giants.” Close in prayer.

FOR KING & COUNTRY

ThemeGod’s Faithfulness

ObjectiveStudents will learn to depend on God for faith and strength during unex-pected hard times.

Warm UpHand out paper and pencils for the students to write down unexpected hard times that they have experienced recently. Bring a backpack and dif-ferent sized stones such as golf ball, baseball, softball, or even football sizes. The stones can be labeled with different situations that the students are going through. The leader should explain each situation/stone and put it in the backpack. The leader can put the pack on or choose a student to wear the pack during rest of this study. Throughout the meeting, ask that stu-dent, “Is the situation getting lighter?” If not, would he or she continue to go on with the burden or allow someone else to carry the situation? If a student offers to allow another to carry it, then he or she must stand while carrying the backpack.

TransitionFocus on the situation in the back-pack, and explain how we can’t live life without God’s strength and provi-sion, especially in time of unexpected tragedy. What or who do we cling to in time of trouble? Refer to the person bearing the backpack.

The VideoShow the video.

TransitionWhat is faith? What is trust? Can we handle difficult situations on our own? Who is there with us in every situation we go through? Living can be hard with weekly schedules in church, schools, and family functions. As believers with solid faith in Jesus Christ, we may believe nothing will happen to us, but at times life doesn’t go the way we want and tragedy strikes unexpectedly. Ephesians 6:12 tells us that we are in a constant spiri-tual battle, like it or not. We usually ask the questions, “Why me?” “How am I going to get through this?” Do we cling to social media and close friends? If we do, we ignore the spiritual aspect that God might be strengthening us. Do we fully understand some person-alities or personhood of God, espe-cially in heartbreak?

Bible Study God will never forget you; just hold on. Some examples: Abraham and Isaac, Daniel and the lion’s den, and the rais-ing of Lazarus. These situations relied on God’s protection and provision, but all went through unexpected situations and they trusted God through it.

God Is Love: Romans 5:8; 8:37-39; Galatians 2:20; Deuteronomy 7:9

•What is sacrificial love?

•God’s love never stops.

•Continues no matter what, it is always there.

God Is Near: James 4:8; Isaiah 58:9; Psalm 119:114,162; John 15:15

•How do we rely on God?

•God will not leave.

•God calls us friend.

God Gives Strength: Romans 5:2-5; Hebrews 12:28-29; Psalm 34:18; 73:26; Isaiah 41:10; Matthew 11:28-30

•How can you rely on God’s strength?

•Don’t fear the unknown.

•Cast your burden back to Him.

Wrap UpWe somehow believe that we must control our own destiny and not allow God to be a part of any decision or direction. Each day we live, we ignore the importance of God in our lives and put God out of our schedules until something happens. Then we doubt His existence in our life, because we are not accepting His presence on a daily basis. Being a Christian, do we really understand who God is and His relationship to us?

Have you totally given God your situ-ation? But most importantly, have you accepted Jesus Christ; have you repented of your sins; believed Jesus Christ died, was buried, and rose from the dead; and confessed that you have a relationship with Jesus Christ?

Try to have a standing wooden cross in the room. Explain the cross and the level ground around it that anyone can come to the cross. Put the stones at the foot of the cross and nail the situ-ations to the cross. Then explain that Jesus Christ took care of everything and that we should leave it there, because He knows and will help the students through the situation(s), but the students need to rely on Jesus and not themselves or anyone else.

ThemeTrust

ObjectiveTrusting God to take care of our needs isn’t easy, especially when the whole world seems to be crashing down on us. But, God knows our every need even before we ask for it. We must trust His plan even when we aren’t sure where that plan is taking us.

Warm UpThis game can be played inside or outside depending on how big you want to go.

•Pick several student pairs.

•Select a target across the room, park-ing lot, field, etc.

•Allow the students to see in which direction and how far away the target is.

•Blindfold one student in each pair and have them walk to the point, stopping when they think they have reached the destination. (The other person is there for safety – he or she may not talk.)

•Have the students switch roles and let the other student try it.

TransitionDiscuss:

•How far off course were you when you stopped?

•Did you come up short?

•How does this represent our lives when we try to tackle our problems alone?

The VideoHave them watch the video. (I would run it twice.) Tell the students to pay close attention to the images being displayed and then ask them: What images stood out to you? Did any of the scenes describe how you feel about life sometimes? Have them write their answers down on the student guide under the Drowning in Doubt section.

TransitionDiscuss how, just like the video, our doubts and worries can weigh us down. Ask the students to share some of the doubts and worries they have.

Bible StudyAs the students read each passage, have them write the answers to the questions on their student guide in the section called Trusting You.

Matthew 6:25-30 – This passage relates how God takes care of us and just how fruitless our worry is. Jesus continues by asking that if God takes care of the little things, how much more will He take care of us, His prized creations? Christ also makes the point that nothing productive comes from ourworry(v.27-29).Asyoudiscussthis passage, have your students answer these questions in their Stu-dent Guide.

•What do you worry about the most?

•Why is trusting God to meet our needs so hard to do?

Matthew 6:31-34 – Jesus describes the solution to our worries. If we seek Christ and the Kingdom of God every day, then we will have nothing to worry about. We seek Him through prayer. When prayer replaces worry, we will find trust. Again, have your students wrestle with these questions and answer them on their Student Guide.

•What happens when we try to handle our worries and fears on our own?

•In what ways can we seek the King-dom of God each day?

•How can we learn to trust God more?

Philippians 4:6-7 – Paul encourages us not to worry about anything, but instead pray for what we need. He also encourages us to thank God for what He has done. We need to seek God and tell him about our needs, but we must also be grateful for His wonderful blessings.

•What needs do you have that you should take to God in prayer?

•What blessings do you have that you need to be grateful for?

Wrap UpTake time here at the end to encourage your students to pray. Encourage them to give all of their baggage, their problems, and their worries to Him. Remind them to be grateful for the many blessings that God has given them. After the prayer time, read Jeremiah 19:11 and remind them that God’s plan for them is perfect.

ThemeFellowship

ObjectiveThe challenges of life can often be huge and seemingly insurmountable. Choosing to take them on alone usu-ally results in discouragement and isolation. This lesson will help your youth see that God’s purpose is for us to discover that community and fellowship are the primary ways to get through adversity in our walk through life and can be a solution to the bigger problems we face.

Warm Up Untie the Knot – Have everyone stand in a tight circle. Tell them to put their left hand in the circle and grab some-one else’s left hand. Have them do the same with their right hand. Ask them to untangle themselves without letting go of their hands.

TransitionReflect on the game you played with these questions:

•What thoughts were running through your head when you were first tan-gled with everyone?

•What were some of the steps needed to get untangled?

•What were the challenges associated with some of these steps?

•Did it take longer or shorter than you expected?

•What advice would you give some-body else the next time they do this exercise?

Say something like, “Our lives and our world can sometimes seem like a huge, tangled mess. We could easily get discouraged thinking about all the problems we face. In this session we are going to recognize God’s call to the importance of Christian community and fellowship.”

The VideoHand out the Student Guides. You can introduce the video by going to the website listed above and learning a little about the singer. Show the video as your group works through the One + One exercise.

TransitionAsk for volunteers to share the obser-vations they noted and then use these questions to reflect on the video:

•Why does she use little kids to illus-trate the point of this song?

•How should this inspire us to work together?

•Why is it difficult to think about tack-ling the world’s problems?

•How does this song respond to the challenge?

Bible Study Say something like, “When fighting enormous problems in our lives or in the world all alone, we often take one of two approaches: fight it and feel defeated, or flee it and feel defeated. The Bible gives us a better plan. Let’s take a look.”

Ask your group to find a partner and complete the Two > One exercise. Have your youth share their pictures and responses. Follow with these questions:

•Why can working alone be “meaning-less?”

•What is so significant about the words in verse 12?

•What is a good example of what can happen when people work together?

•What is the danger of people who are working “together” but still choose to work alone?

Wrap UpSay something like, “The songwriter says, ‘I need you and you need me. Left alone we will never be who we could be.’ Let’s finish our time by tak-ing stock of how we are contributing our ‘one drop’ to our own life and to the lives of others.”

Give the group a few moments to complete the My Ones section, then come back together and allow them to share their statements.

Close the time together by praying for one another.

ThemeAttitude

ObjectiveStudents will be challenged to keep the right attitude during difficult times.

Warm UpHand out pens and Student Guides. Challenge the students to use the blank space under the Storm Warning head-ing to draw a severe storm scene—with the hand they don’t normally use for writ-ing or drawing! If you have more than 10 or 12 students, divide into small groups of equal size. Give students a few moments to draw their “wrong-handed” storm scene; then have them share their drawings. Discuss:

•Who had the craziest drawing?

•Was drawing tough? Explain.

•How hard is keeping a good attitude when chaotic conditions are intensify-ing? Explain.

TransitionSay, “Storms happen when the atmo-sphere is unstable. Life storms happen when we least expect them. What life storm has you or a friend gone through recently?” Allow time for sharing. Be willing to share a story of one of your own life storms.

The VideoSay, “The energetic new band Spo-ken has a driving rock anthem called ‘Through It All.’ The song’s style adds intensity and emotion to the already volatile mix of life storms and attitude.” Continue by saying, “Listen for what you believe the band’s message is in this song.” Play the video. As the music fades, point everyone to the Lyric Chat section of the Student Guide. Discuss:

•What is the song’s message?

•What do you think Spoken means by, “I heard the sounds of a flashing light?”

•How do you feel when you hear, “She watched the world as it slowly slipped away?”

•What does it mean to have “been through the fire” and been “lost in the flame?”

TransitionSay, “So the song’s a little dark, a little hard, yet a little encouraging, too. What does the Bible say about the attitude a person should project dur-ing change and hardship? Let’s take a look at the Attitude Check section of your Student Guide.” Have students work in the same group they were in for the drawing exercise.

Bible StudyHave each group appoint a reader for the Bible passage. That person can then lead the group through the discussion questions. If you are in small groups for this section, be sure to bring everyone back together at the end. Allow a representative from each group read the assigned passage and convey his/her group’s thoughts on it.

John 14:6; Acts 4:12

•What do you know about Jesus’ attitude?

•How many ways are there to heaven? Explain.

•How do these verses define Jesus?

•What makes these verses have everything to do with life storms?

Ephesians 2:1-10

•Verses 1-3: What are some differ-ences between God’s way and the world’s way?

•Verses4-7:Howdoesunderstandinggrace affect a person’s attitude?

•Verses 8-9: Why can’t a person get through life’s storms on his/her own?

•Verse 10: Do the good works we were created to do occur outside of storms? Explain.

Philippians 3:12-14

•What is the easiest day you can remember living? Explain.

•What is the hardest day you remem-ber living? Explain.

•What do the words “straining toward” and “pressing on” tell you about moving through life’s storms?

•How are you encouraged by this passage?

Say, “We need an attitude check when life gets stormy. These passages help give us focus and a firm foundation.”

Wrap UpChallenge students to use the Ponder This section of the student guide to apply the lesson to life in a personal way.

•I’ve had a bad attitude about…

•The life storm that hurt me the worst lately is…

•I like what that Bible passage said about…

•I need Jesus’ help with…

Ask students to think about the follow-ing Zig Ziglar quote as you prepare to close in prayer: “Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude.”

GROUP 1 CREW

ThemeGod’s Love

ObjectiveStudents will demonstrate a deeper understanding of God’s love by creating a list that helps them to be confident of God’s love for them.

Warm UpTell a story about when someone demonstrated love to you by a grand gesture like a very valuable gift or a special event. After your story, ask if any of your students have a story to share. Give them time to think and, if they choose, to write some of it down in the I Knew I Was Loved When… section of the Student Guide. Have one or two students share.

TransitionAsk, “Would you have known that this person cared for you if they had not done this for you?” Most will answer yes; explore what the gesture communicated to them about their relationship. After a little discussion, introduce the video by explaining that while we know (at least in our minds) that God loves us, He demonstrates His love for us in a number of amazing ways.

The VideoAs students watch the video, have them listen for answers to the questions in the How Do You Explain His Love? section.

•In the first stanza, the rapper Manwell expresses his inability to describe God’s love. Why? (It’s so deep)

•In the chorus, they say that His love is “reckless for us.” What do you think that means?

•He will never give up until what hap-pens? (“… the whole world knows how far He went to show His kind of love.”)

•Whom does He choose to save? (bruised, broken, sinners and runaways)

•What is the limit of His love? (it “knows no limit”)

•What will He not stop doing? (chasing us)

After the video ends, discuss the questions with your students helping them to see the incredible extent of God’s love for us. Ask what they think we have done to deserve that love (NOTHING).

TransitionSay, “The descriptions of God’s love in this video are just a tiny sample of how we know that God loves us. Let’s look into some other aspects of God’s love that are revealed in His Word.”

Bible StudyWrite each of these verses on index cards and give them to students who are willing to read aloud to the group. As the verses are read, lead the students to discover what that verse says God does because of His love for us.

1 John 3:1 – calls us to be His children

Titus 3:3-6 – rescues us from evil and shows us mercy

John 3:16 – gave His only Son to give us life

Jeremiah 31:3 – draws us to Himself

Wrap UpGive students a minute to think, process, and pray. Then give them a couple of minutes to list two or three things that they have either discovered or been reminded of in this study, which help them to be sure of God’s love in his/her life. Make sure they know that if they struggle with this, you (and/or other adults) are available to talk and pray with them after the study time. Then close in prayer asking God to make His love clear to each student in a special and personal way.

ThemeHumility

ObjectiveStudents will contemplate the choice between being famous and being significant for God.

Warm UpGuess My Name – Each person chooses to be a famous character, actor, cartoon character, etc. They only tell the leader, who makes a note of who everyone is. The leader reads out the list of charac-ters slowly – twice with a bigger group. Warn everyone to pay attention since the list won’t get read again. Choose some-one to start by saying to anyone, “I think you are…” If the guesser is right, that person joins his or her team. If wrong, that person becomes the guesser and guesses someone else. Gradually teams will form. (Teams are allowed to share with each other who they are.) The win-ner is either the team with the most peo-ple on their team, or if anyone remains not guessed, he or she wins.

TransitionDiscuss: When you think of some of those famous people, what images come to mind? Do you ever wonder what it would be like to be famous? Who here is going to be famous one day? Let’s learn

about how we should treat one another no matter how famous we become.

The VideoExplain that Andy, formerly known as

“C-Lite,” grew up in a single parent home. Without any positive male figures around, he struggled with profanity, submission to authority, and physical aggression. When his conduct became uncontrol-lable, Andy was removed from school and placed in a behavioral modification center. The summer before entering the 8th grade, Andy attended a Christian camp where his sister served as a coun-selor. While there, he heard the gospel preached clearly. He cried out in desper-ation for Jesus to forgive him, and came home with a love for people that he once hated. But he also came back to no home church or mentors. So he rode his spiritual high into the ground. Music and status had become his focus.

In high school he ran a lucrative business out of his mother’s basement recording and producing music. He started a rap group with a few friends that led to a record deal. Andy became well known in the underground freestyle rap scene for winning battle competitions during high school and his freshman year in college. He also excelled in athletics—thriving in football, basketball, and lacrosse.

In his freshman year of college, Andy met a music producer who introduced

him to an urban ministry that focused on evangelism via performing arts. He soon connected with others, was discipled, and the Lord began to deal with him more deeply concerning sin patterns in his life. After hearing Da Truth’s “Price Tag” song, he vowed to shut down his recording studio and never use his gifts to help record music that did not honor God. He lost all his business and income, but he found his new identity in Christ.

Armed with a new purpose, Andy spent several months sharing the gospel in some of the most poverty-stricken and drug-infested neighbor-hoods in the U.S. He has been fea-tured on many notable projects. While his introduction to a larger audience came through his vocals on Lecrae’s

“Background,” and he continues to pen melodic choruses, rapping remains his passion and focus for future projects.

Andy decided to drop his stage name, C-Lite, in favor of his birth name; it symbolizes his aim to live out everything off stage that he pours out through his art on stage. He recently graduated from college and serves as a leader of a church plant. He leads weekly small groups and men’s groups at his apart-ment, traveling on the weekends to minister. Once divided in his ambitions, Andy has resolved to love the Lord with all his heart, soul, strength, and mind—no compromise.

TransitionDiscuss: Knowing a little about Andy, what do you think this song is about? What makes you think that? Why do you think he says, “We ain’t trying to be famous?” How would you define “humble”?

Bible StudyHave the students list “humble behav-iors” and “prideful behaviors.” When they’re finished, go around and share their lists. Have them circle the behaviors on their list that they have displayed. As they look at the ones that are circled, what emotions are they feeling? Are there any areas they want to change?

Matthew 23:12 – How has Andy lived out this verse? Would you rather be famous or have your life really count for something? Why do you think we need to “step down and be a servant” in order to stand out?

One of the biggest reasons is found in James 4:6. Why do you think God opposes the proud? Say something like,

“I don’t want God to oppose me or the things I do. And I don’t want that for you either. I would rather live a simple life that was significant than be famous.”

Wrap UpThe challenge for us is to be more like Andy. Don’t try to be famous; be significant for God!

BRENTON BROWN

ThemeTrust

ObjectiveStudents will realize that they need to trust in God over the other things that our culture trusts in – things that ulti-mately fail them.

Warm UpDesign an obstacle course in a large area. Then give each student a blind-fold and something heavy to carry through the obstacle course. (You might use a sand bag, a large rock, a medicine ball, or another student.) Then tell them that you are going to time them as they each individually go through the course. Tell them that they need to carry their burden the entire way through the obstacle course or they will be disqualified.

TransitionExplain that life is like an obstacle course. There are many turns and changes that often come unexpect-edly. In addition, we all have various burdens that we carry, burdens that weighs us down and makes it harder to navigate the paths of life. Our hearts often feel overwhelmed by the unex-pected turns in life or by the burdens that we must bear. Yet, we feel the pressure to perform at our best and to always wear a smile on our faces.

The VideoHand out the Student Guides and explain that Brenton Brown has a song that describes how he makes it through when his heart feels over-whelmed. Encourage the students to write down some of the things that overwhelm their hearts as you play the video for them. Also, have them write down some of the attributes that Bren-ton Brown mentions regarding God and why we can depend on Him in the midst of overwhelming pressures.

TransitionBrenton Brown sings that we can depend on God because He is our rock. He is the joy of our lives and the song in the night. God is ever-present with us. Throughout Scripture, God continuously shows His people that He protects them

and cares for them. As Israel wandered in the wilderness, God guided them. As David fought Goliath, God provided strength and courage. As Jeremiah wept in captivity, God offered hope and a future. When Paul was in prison and dealt with persecution, the promise of freedom through Christ remained true. This is because God is our rock, an ever-present foundation when we feel shaken or shattered. Psalm 62 declares this and calls for us to depend on God when our hearts feel overwhelmed.

Bible StudyHave students turn to Psalm 62. Explain that the Psalms were Israel’s worship book. The Psalms were used at various times of worship to exalt and seek God. Many Psalms express times of hardship and struggle. Psalm 62 does this. Many Psalms also express that God is the answer to our heartaches. Psalm 62 does this as well. After reading the Psalm, instruct students to answer the following ques-tions on their Student Guides:

•The Hebrew word for “soul” is nephesh, which means, “whole being.” What does finding rest for your whole being mean to you? What within your whole being needs to find rest?

•What images does the poet use for God in the first two verses? How do these images offer you strength?

•In what ways is the poet feeling assaulted? In what ways do we often feel assaulted?

•Verses 9-10 list various things that we can trust in instead of God. What things are listed in these verses? (Lowborn vs. highborn— our social status; extortion; stolen goods; wealth)

•What other things can you think of that we tend to depend on?

•Why does God deserve our trust more than these things? (Verses 11-12 declare that God is strong and that He is loving.)

•What are you struggling with, and how can God provide strength and love?

Wrap UpHave the students take a rock and use puffy paint to write words or paint an image that reminds them to place their trust in God alone. Encourage them to take their rock home and place it on their desk or dresser or bed stand. Encourage them, whenever they look upon the rock, to pray, seek God’s strength, love in the midst of their struggles, and thank God for being available to them.

CAPITAL KINGS

ThemeGod’s Presence

ObjectiveStudents will learn how God shows us we are not alone.

Warm UpBring poster board, art supplies, and any other materials (like stones or Legos) for the students to make

“signs.” Have the students form groups of 2 – 4. Have each group design a sign that would communicate the fact that we are NOT alone. Have a prize for the best, most colorful, and/or most creative sign. Have the students answer the questions:

•Do you ever feel alone?

•What speaks to you; what reassures you most that you are not alone?

•How do you feel when you see a billboard about God?

•What do you feel is the best way to communicate to your friends and family that they are not alone?

The VideoShow the video and have them fill in the blanks on their Student Guide. Here are the missing words: street-lights that guide you home, GPS when you’ve lost your phone, song rockin’ in your headphones, You’ll never be alone

Transition•What three things does the song

mention as signs to let you know that you’ll never be alone?

•Which of those things is most com-forting to you?

•What analogy would you add to the lyric? Write your own lyric. “I’m the…”, and “I’ll be the…”

Bible StudyGod often uses signs to help us remember something important because we are forgetful people. Read the verses and answer the questions.

Joshua 4:4-7 – What is the sign? What were they to remember? Why do you think this is important?

Ezekiel 20:19-20 – What is the sign? What are we to remember? What does

“keep the Sabbath holy” mean? Do you think you keep the Sabbath holy? Why do you think this is important?

Deuteronomy 11:13-21 – What is the symbol or sign? Where are you to write, teach, and speak them? Why do you think this is important? Are God’s words/commands this prevalent to you?

Exodus 12:1-13 – What is the sign? What is the significance of the blood sacrifice? Why do you think it is important to remember this? How does this point to the life and death of Jesus?

Genesis 9:12-16 – What is the sign? What will God remember? What should we remember? Why do you think this is important?

Wrap UpGod gives us signs to help us remem-ber His everlasting love for us, and all of the awesome things He has done. He is the creator of the universe. In His creation God said everything was good – except for one thing. Read Genesis 2:18. God knows we have a basic need for fellowship with Him and others.

Have the students come up with three tangible ideas of things they can do this week as a “sign” to others that God loves them and will never leave them alone. Have each student choose one, and then text it to you. Later in the week, check in with your students to remind them, or encourage them in their good works.

Close in a prayer that thanks God that we will never be alone.

PLANETSHAKERS

ThemeJesus’ Death; The Cross

ObjectiveStudents will understand and know what Christ’s death on the cross means for them.

Warm UpMatch Game – Give each student two 3x5cards;havethemwritetheirnameon one card only. On the other card, ask them to write a dream job they would want, or something great they would like to do to change the world. Depending on the size of your group, you might need to split the group up or play this game as teams. After you have collected all the cards, spread them out upside down on a table and have the students take turns trying to find matches for all the cards.

TransitionAfter playing this game, have your students talk about either their dream job or the great thing they would like to do some day and why.

The VideoNow tell your students that they will be discussing someone who, when that person grew up, changed the world. This person really did do something great that ultimately changed the course of the world. Tell the students that they will be watching the Planetshakers singing their song,

“The Anthem” that explains what this person did to change the world.

TransitionFollowing the video, discuss with the students what Christ did to change the world.

Bible StudyDuring this Bible study section, split the group into three groups. One group will read Isaiah 53:1-6, another group will read Matthew 27:27-31, and another group will read John 19:33-39. Have the groups read and discuss what Jesus did do or what was done to him in each of these passages. Have them write what they discover on their Student Guides. Then come back as a group and share what they found.

Isaiah 53:1-5: no beauty, no majesty, despised, rejected, stricken, afflicted, pierced, crushed, wounded.

Matthew 27:27-31: stripped of his clothes, crown of thorns jammed into his skull, he was mocked, spit upon, hit with a staff on his head, led away to be crucified.

John 19:33-39: Jesus cried out, “My God, my God why have you forsake me”, he drank the wine vinegar, he cried out, he breathed his last breath.

Tell the students that because Christ was willing to die a horrible death to take our place, He changed the world. But He not only died, He resurrected and lives for us. Now read to the students Philippians 2:8-11.

Wrap UpWhat does that have to do with us today? We can accept Him as our Savior and Lord. We can accept the gift that He died in our place for our sins. Have the students write their response to Jesus’ death on the cross on their Student Guide. Have them tear it off and put it in the basket that you will pass around. Then close with a time of prayer.

LECRAE

ThemeEvangelism

ObjectiveStudents will explore stories of grace – including their own – and how those stories have motivated others and motivates them to share Christ with others.

Warm UpLifegiver – Enlist one student before the session to be the life-giver and give him or her a stack of face cards (Ace, King, Queen, Jack & Joker). As you introduce the game, give each student five playing cards but no face cards. Tell them that they will have three minutes to trade cards with other students (one card for one card) to try to find the “life-giver” (the person with the face cards). Instruct them that once they receive a face card, they are to keep it and not trade it away. There is only one “life-giver.” Anyone who does not have a face card at the end of the game is dead, but if you have a face card you are alive because you had an encounter with the “life-giver.” (Note: make it a point not to say whether or not they can talk to each other during the game.)

TransitionDebrief the game by finding out who is alive and who is dead. Discuss how they came to have a “life-card.” Did anyone tell a friend where they got one? If so, why? In the song you are about to hear, Lecrae talks about how an encounter with the real “life-giver” changed his life and what that causes him to want to do.

The VideoHand out the Student Guides. Instruct students to listen closely for Lecrae’s testimony and his response to God’s work in his life. Direct them to the basic outline on the Student Guide.

•What his life was like before his encounter with Christ. (Slave to himself, drugs, cursed God, lies, cheating, lust, greed, dead, deep in sin, low down and dirty)

•What Christ did for him. (Brand new, cleaned up my soul, set free, gave new life, clear view, changed/ain’t the same, new name, adopted me, kept rockin’ me)

•What did he say he did to deserve all of this from God? (Nothing)

•What does Lecrae say he wants to do before God beams him up? (“Tell the truth, let the whole world know that I’ve seen Your love and it’s everlasting”)

TransitionLecrae’s testimony is a powerful story of grace. We find in Scripture this same motivation for “turning the world upside-down.” As we dig through these passages, challenge students to be thinking about their own story of grace.

Bible StudyHave students read 1 Timothy 1:12-16, then have them discuss what similarities and differences they see between Paul’s and Lecrae’s stories.

Have a volunteer read 1 John 5:10-12 aloud while the other students follow along. Ask, “What is the message that we get to tell people?” (God has given us eternal life in His Son.)

Wrap UpHave each student write a sentence or two describing his or her own story of grace in the My Story section of the Student Guide. Guide them to write two or three names of people on part four of their story.

ThemeSin; Confession Of

ObjectiveStudents will learn that although obstacles and failures are inevitable, is it possible to see the love of God during difficult times. They will realize that since God holds the worlds in His hands, He can solve their problems – if they confess and repent of their sin.

Warm UpHave several large paper grocery sacksfilledwithrandomitems(5-8items in each bag) from around the church. As the students arrive, place themingroupsof5-8withabag.Haveeach student pull an item from the bag. Designate the first person to begin to tell a story that incorporates his or her item – the item must have some type of temptation, obstacle, or failure associated with it. When that person is finished, the next person ties their item to the story that has been started. This process continues until all the items are part of the story and each item represents the failures and temptations of all the parts.

The VideoPrior to playing the video ask the stu-dents to focus on these words: “There is a mountain of failure and a mountain of shame, there is an ocean drowning me in fear, an ocean of tears and wor-ries.” Show the video.

TransitionWhat are the mountains of shame and guilt in your life that are standing in the way of you praising and worship-ing God, your creator and Savior? Is it possible in the midst of our worry and tears to acknowledge God’s greatness and mercy?

Bible StudyRead Psalm 51:1-12 and work through this teaching outline.

We should acknowledge our need for forgiveness. (v.1-2) David knew that he needed forgiveness for his mistakes and failures. David asked for discipline, divine grace, and mercy. David also knew that he needed God to: 1) Erase his sins; 2) Wash him of his mistakes; 3) Cleanse him of his shame.

•Do you need forgiveness?

•What is your mountain of shame?

•Can God remove that mountain?

There must be a confession of sin. (v.3-6) David knew that he fell short of what God wants. His words, “Surely, You desire truth in the inner parts” indicate that David had been living a lie by attempting to cover up his failures.

•Do you regularly confess your sins to God?

We need to ask for renewal and cleansing.(v.7-9)DavidaskedthatGod remove the stains of his sins while bringing spiritual renewal.

•Is there a lesson here to be learned?

We need to commit to staying clean. (v.10-12) Sin and joy cannot exist in the same heart at the same time; the two stand alone by themselves. David did not request that his salvation be restored, but the joy of his salvation. He wanted a willing spirit so he could obey God’s Word. Wow, this is the diffi-cult part - staying clean. When you find yourself completely worshiping Him, falling for temptation is not as easy.

Wrap upSo when you see a mountain stand-ing in the way, what are you going to do? Too often we fill that bag of our life with all of our failures and we do not think that God will accept us – much less the God Who created the world and holds it in His hands. When you think you are drowning in the mighty ocean, remember that He is not only holding that ocean but He is holding you at the same time. When you lean on Him you will receive discipline, grace, and mercy!

JEKOB

ThemeSurrender

ObjectiveStudents will learn that change must start within them in the form of sub-mission/surrender.

Warm UpStart with a slideshow of 20-30 images of beautiful places or events from across the country or even around the globe. These images should definitely be demographic specific, for the slide-show to be interesting for the students. Make this into a game show and split them up into teams that try to identify the location or event. You may or may not want to have hints after each slide before the answer to even out the playing field.

TransitionHand out the Student Guides. Discuss:

•Were any of these places or events somewhere or something that you may someday want to visit?

•Were they beautiful? Why?

•What things on our planet are not beautiful? Which do you consider ugly? (Have a couple personal exam-ples ready in case you need to help the conversation along; start guiding the conversation towards events rather than places.)

•Why are those events happening?

The VideoExplain that you’ll show a music video by Jekob – he’s calling us to make a difference in the world. We live in such a beautiful place, but unless we submit to change first, nothing else will change. Play the video. Start off by asking them what they thought of the video and how the video relates to what we have talked about so far – this could help jumpstart the conversation again. By this time we hope the stu-dents will start connecting the dots of the themes of this session.

TransitionAsk, “What does the word surrender mean? And in what ways do we sym-bolize surrender?”

Say, “Merriam Webster says surren-der is to yield to the power, control, or possession of another upon com-pulsion or demand; to give up com-pletely or agree to forgo especially in favor of another; to give (oneself) up into the power of another especially as a prisoner; to give (oneself) over to something (as an influence.) Does that change the meaning of surrender for you?”

Bible StudyPlan to have Matthew 16:24-26 and Romans 12:2 ready to be read by two volunteers. Discuss:

•What is the theme between these two verses?

•How do they connect with the video we just watched?

Explain that this world is a beautiful place, but unless we surrender to God and put away all our human intentions, we will never get any closer to that beautiful place Jekob alludes to.

Wrap UpSay, “This word ‘surrender’ and this Christianity thing go hand in hand. And this beautiful place we are alluding to is only realistic if you take this sur-render thing seriously. Jesus called us to ‘take up our cross and follow Him.’ What will you do?”

JEKOB

The Warm UpWere any of these places or events somewhere or something that you may someday want to visit?

Were they beautiful? Why?

What things on our planet are not beautiful? Which do you consider ugly?

Why are those events happening?

The VideoWhat did you think of the video?

How does the video relate to what we have talked about already and the slideshow?

Dig DeeperWhat does the word “surrender” mean to you?

In what ways do we symbolize surrender?

Matthew 16:24; Romans 12:2

What is the theme of these two verses?

How do they connect with what we just watched?

Wrap upThis word “surrender” and this Christianity thing go hand in hand. And this beautiful place we are allud-ing to is only realistic if you take this surrender thing seriously. Jesus called us to “take up our cross and follow Him.” It’s your move – what will you do now?

ELEVATION WORSHIP

ThemeGod’s Love

ObjectiveStudents will ponder and respond to the matchless love and grace of God.

Warm UpThe Sibling Game – Create a fun version of a game show similar to The Newly-wed Game. Have 3-4 pairs of siblings sit or stand in front of the entire group, each with their own personal whiteboard and marker, or a clipboard with sheets of paper and a marker. As you ask ques-tions, have whichever sibling goes first write down what they think the other sibling will answer. Try to create funny questions that are appropriate for your group, such as: My idea of a great vaca-tion is a) camping b) theme park trip c) resort d) foreign country; Of the following I would most like to marry a) movie star b) pro athlete c) famous musician d) someone who is not famous.

TransitionExplain that siblings know a lot about each other – and so do spouses, best friends, etc. Relationships based upon love require knowing one another on some level. Explain that Elevation Wor-ship has written a beautiful song worship-ing God for His matchless love for us.

The VideoAsk the students to pay attention to the lyrics and any concepts communi-cated visually that may speak to them as they watch Elevation Worship’s

“Open Up Our Eyes” video.

TransitionSay, “With those lyrics and images in our minds, let’s dig a little deeper by looking at the Student Guide.” (You can decide whether to work through these parts in large or small groups).

Bible StudyHave students look at the Talk It Over section of their Student Guide.

•Think about the core idea of the song: asking God to “open up our eyes” to the true reality of His love. Do you ever wonder whether the truth of God’s love is something we talk about so casually that we almost water down its affect on us emotionally?

•Have you ever doubted the uncon-ditional nature of God’s love for you? If so, explain why you think this has happened.

•If you were given the task of defin-ing God’s “unconditional love”, how would you put it into words?

Read Ephesians 1:15-23 as a group and discuss:

•In this passage, the Apostle Paul expresses the prayer of his heart for the believers he is writing to (which ultimately includes us). In verse 18, he prays that the “eyes of their hearts” may be opened to some of the stun-ning realities concerning their rela-tionship with God. What do you think Paul means by the phrase, “eyes of your heart”?

•Paul mentions three major things he is praying for the eyes of their hearts to be able to “see” with greater clar-ity: the hope to which God has called them, the riches of his glorious inheri-tance, and His incomparably great power. Describe what you believe each of those things mean.

Read Ephesians 3:14-21 as a group and discuss:

•Chapter 3 is an expression of prayer that Paul writes out for believers. What is Paul trying to get them to understand when he writes, “how wide and long and high and deep” the love of Christ is?

•When we doubt God’s unconditional love for us, it’s often during a time when we’ve messed up with sin, or when something negative seems to be happening in our lives. How is understanding the width and length and height and depth of God’s love

critical in being restored to confi-dence during those times?

TransitionSay, “Think about someone you know

- maybe a friend, family member, rela-tive, or even an enemy - who does not understand the reality of God’s incom-parable love for him or her.

•In what specific way(s) is God calling you to be a vessel of His love in that person’s life?

•Is it possible to give the love of God away if we’re not consistently and consciously understanding, accept-ing, and resting in it for ourselves? Why or why not?

Wrap UpExplain to close out your time togeth-er, you will be watching the video again – thinking about the words and praying them along with the melody. An alternative to this might be having your youth band (if you have one) ready to play the song live to close out the meeting. Let the students know that this is an opportunity for them to renew their minds through a reaffirmation of God’s unfathom-able love for them – and that walking away with a simple heart full of grati-tude is sometimes all the response God is looking for.

Work It OutAs you make the lyric of this song a prayer from your heart, simply rest in the comfort of the truth of His irreversible, passionate love for you. Some-times, all God is looking for is gratefulness in our hearts – because grateful people are contagious with God’s love!

FOR KING & COUNTRY

ThemeHope; In God

ObjectiveIn this session your students will discuss what it means to “crave” the hope that is found in God.

Warm UpThis is a pretty somber song and video. Use this as a pre-communion study. Use candles, low lights and music to set the atmosphere of your room. Greet students outside the doors and welcome them by asking them to enter quietly and respectfully. Let them know that this meeting will be different than most youth group environments. Hand each student their handout and a pen and ask them to quietly write down all the things they desire in their life (future plans, relationships, etc.) in the first box. Allow your students several minutes to think about their answers and to sit quietly in preparation for the night’s discussion.

TransitionSay, “As you can tell, this is pretty different than our typical youth group gatherings. You will watch a music video, discuss it, and end our time together by having communion.”

The VideoSay, “If you watched The Bible miniseries on TV, you’ll recognize the clips in this video by for King & Country. Some of these images maybe difficult to watch, but they are a powerful portrayal of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. As you watch, listen especially to the chorus and try to fill in the blanks on your handout.” Show the video.

TransitionSay, “In order to keep things a little on the quiet side, let’s break up into small groups and answer the questions.”

Bible StudyAsk, “What emotions did you feel while watching the video? Instead of us going around and everyone share his or her answers, write some of what you’re feeling right now.” Discuss:

•As you listened to the song, what is the one word the band repeats over and over?

•What does “crave” mean to you? (To ask for something earnestly or to beg.)

I think we can all agree that we would only beg for something that is really important. In 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 Paul identified what was most impor-tant to him. According to this passage, what did Jesus do for us?

•Jesus died for us.

•Jesus was dead and buried for us.

•Jesus rose from the dead for us.

Paul believed 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 with ever fiber of his being and as a result he wrote Philippians 3:8.

•Once we realize what Jesus has done for us, we will crave His love.

•We will crave His presence in our Life

•We will crave hope in God

How does Paul compare to having hope in God with all the riches of the world?

We started this meeting by having you break down all the things that you want. In the box on the far right I want you to write, “Hope in God.” Now between those two boxes I want you to write a >, a < or a =. I hope you realize that hope in God is better than anything this world has to offer. Tonight I hope that you crave hope.

Wrap UpAs you wrap up the study and move into communion, play the song

“Crave” quietly in the background. (If you’ve never serve communion to your students before, check with your senior pastor to see if he would have any specific instructions or directions for you.)
