I chose this specific screen shot because it show theperfect transition that I will be using in my music video.Also the I want to be shooting in similar locations to thisbut with high key lighting to create a calm and relaxingatmosphere throughout my video. I will make the artist Ihave chosen to wear casual clothes like the singer in thisvideo to give a natural feeling to the video.

A typical convention for indie music videos are thecamera angles used, I will be using mid shots of the artist singing mostly because it is a way to engage with the audience better.

The music video I am analysing uses a variety of camera angles to keep the audience engaged throughout. Also they are used t demonstrate different aspects of film settings, characters and themes. Camera shots are very important when trying to shape the meaning of your project. Indie styled music videos typically used mid shots, this is so the viewer can see the characters faces more clearly as well as their interaction with other character. This is known as a social shot to make the audience feel more apart of the video. Other shots like long shots which contains the landscape and gives the viewer a more specific idea of setting. I feel as those these shots are used very well in this music video as you can clearly tell that he is isolated in a forest but you stay connected with the character because of the mid shots. I will be trying to portray this kind of technique into my music video for the same purpose of engagement.

It is important for most music videos not to get Camera angles and camera shots mixed up as camera shots are used to demonstrate aspects of setting, themes and characters. Where as camera angles are used to position the viewer s that they can understand the relationship between the characters.

Throughout “Into The West” they use a fair amount of eye level shots angles this is effective as it puts the audience on the same level as the character. This angle is most commonly used as it allows the viewers to feel more comfortable with the character. I will be using this shot so the audience feels like they can relate to the characters. I feel as though these camera angles edited in the right way can bring out a really professional music video.

This shows more closely the type of footage I want toCapture as my locations will mostly be forest like areas e.g.Parks or woods. Typical conventions for this style of musicvideo is only having a certain amount of locations, to reducethe complexity of the video but allow more possibilities for unique camera angles in same location.

This Shot shows the conventions for instruments in theIndie genre. Acoustic guitars and pieces of a drumkit are usually the most recognisable instruments seenIn music videos. I aim to use guitars mostly in myvideo, as it will be the songs main instruments andA great connection to telling the audience who the leadartist is.

Lighting is one of the most important aspects for shaping. The kind of atmosphere that you want to create is judged by the lighting that you choose to show. In this music video they choose to use natural lighting to give a relaxing and calm atmosphere. Also the realism of the video is shown through the natural lighting, I will be using natural mid key natural lighting for authenticity as the song has a happy guitar strum but has quite sad lyrics.

Mise en scene refers to all objects and characters in a particular frames. In this music video they focus a lot on props like instruments, the clothing on the characters are quite casual but smart this is because the style of music has these same qualities of the clothing so it makes them good conventions because if you see one of them you think of the other. I will be trying to capture as many mise en scenes that fit the indie genre as much as possible.

These are the types of shots I would want to use as they show emotion for the artist however they still captureThe surroundings and which will engage the audience as they can see the image that I will be trying to portrayclearly. These shots will also be used because they are the most consistent and professional looking shotsThat can be used throughout the music video without becoming too stale for the audience to becomeuninterested.
