Music video analysis Andrew W.K. - Party Hard

This music video is a performance piece as the band is on a stage performing the song but to no audience. This is a hard rock piece of music and stereotypically this genre of music has performance videos like korn, john bon jovi and guns and roses. So this video fundamentally follows the genres videos. Also the song title and lyrics “party hard” follow the stereotypical rock genre as they don’t follow the rules and do things over the top. Also what the band is wearing is quite stereotypical for modern rock bands as they are wearing jeans, some are wearing no tops and they all have long hair that they flick around when they are “head banging”. They front man is the only one with a beard and this is how you can distinguish him from the rest of the band.

They use a good variety of shots in quick succession to give a feeling of action and excitement, these ties in with the genre being lively and energetic. Also the use of different coloured lighting effects and flashes help you to distinguish between band members and different scenes. All together the shots have quick cuts

between each one ending quite abruptly keeping your attention as it is changing constantly. Also the cuts between who is singing whether it be the main or back-up singers helps to change focus to the people who are more important at each bit. And the shot type is a close up to show the anger and Emotion on the singers face. This emotion

of anger ties in with the tone of the voices and the genre as they are over the top and usually angry this is shown very well throughout this video. Also it almost sounds as if they band is constantly shouting this again ties in with the idea that they are angry. They also use only low angle and slightly low angle so that you feel less important and intimidated by them as does the slight shouting and the angry looks on their face as stereotypically rock artists are quite aggressive and intimidating.
