Hip hop music genre is developed aside the hip hop culture and is based on concepts of looping, rapping, freestyling, DJing, scratching, sampling, and beatboxing. The hip hop music expresses concerns of political, social and personal issues. Hip hop was introduced in the 1970’s within the Bronx in New York City along African Americans, with some Jamaican immigrant influence. The word rap is referred to hip hop regularly, however the latter denotes the practice of the whole subculture.

Pop music genre was developed in the mid 50’s as an alternative to rock ‘n’ roll and further on to rock music. Focusing on commercial recording, often orientated towards the youth market, through relatively short and simple love of songs. These basic elements of pop music has remained constant, and has absorbed influences from most other forms of music, borrowing the development of rock music, utilising key technological innovations to produce variations of other themes.

Rock music genre is a popular kind of music entered in the mainstream in the 1960’s. it has its roots in 1940’s and 1950’s rock and roll, rhythm and blues, country music and also drew on folk music, jazz and classical music. This type of music revolves round the guitar back beat with a rhythm selection of electrical bass guitar, drums, and keyboard instruments such as organ, piano, or since the 1970’s, synthesizers. Harmonica’s are also used in soloing instruments. In its "purest form", it "has three chords, a strong, insistent back beat, and a catchy melody.

Gothic genre is also referred to Goth rock or just Goth, this is a musical subgenre of post-punk and alternative rock, this was formed in the late 70’s. gothic rock bands grew from strong ties as they had the English punk rock and emerging post-punk scenes. This genre was defined as another movement from punk rock within the early 80’s due to the significant movement to gothic rock as apposed to punk, a combination of dark colours, keyboard- heavy music with depressing lyrics.

Indie rock genre is a type of rock music originated in the United States and the UK in the 80’s. the term is usually used to describe the means of production and distribution of the independent underground music, this was the first associated with this means of production. Indie artists are known for maintaining and placing a premium on control of their music careers, releasing albums on record labels independently (self owned or self operated) and relying on touring, word-of-mouth, airplay on independent or radio stations in recent years and the internet for promotion.

(Rhythm & Blues)Rhythm and Blues ( also known as R&B R’n’B or RnB) the name for a wide ranging genre of popular music created by African Americans in the late 40’s and early 50’s. this term was used originally by record companies to refer to the recordings marketed mainly to urban African Americans when “urbane”, rocking, jazz based music with a heavy, insistent beat was becoming extremely popular.

Emo music genre is a style of rock music characterised by melodic musicianship and expressive, confessional lyrics, originated in the mid 80’s. hardcore punk movement of Washington D.C where it is known as “emotional hardcore” or “emocore” and pioneered by bands such as Rites of spring and embrace. The style was echoed by contemporary American punk bands, the sound shifted and changed, with a blend of pop punk and indie rock and captured in the early 90’s by groups such as the jawbreakers and sunny day real estate. By the mid 90’s numerous emo emerged from the Midwestern and Central United States, and several independent record labels began to specialize in the style.
