magazine conventionsA conventional magazine has the magazine title at the top of the page in the centre or the left hand side. If it is on the side, it is usually the sign or initials of the magazine. The sign and magazine title font usually stay the same every issue, though colours may change almost every issue.

The main part of the magazine front cover is usually the image. With music magazines, there is conventionally a musician related to the genre of the magazine. The artist on the cover is generally featured in some way in the magazine. A new artist is featured in every magazine to increase the potential audience.

Some magazines choose to put the barcode on the front, while others have it on the back or on the spine.

The main articles and features inside the magazine are introduced by different phrases on the front cover. The size of the font is usually an indicator of the importance the article plays in the magazine.

Many magazines choose to give away something for free or have a competition to increase interest and sales.

Magazine covers usually follow a harmonious colour scheme, where colours go together well and do not clash. The colours are bright and stand out so that the magazine can be seen from afar. They also use a few different fonts to catch attention and various techniques like outlining and shadowing to make certain words stand out.

Conventionally, the front cover of a magazine is busy and full of details to increase the potential audience.
