Music Concerts at the University of Huddersfield

Transcript of Music Concerts at the University of Huddersfield

ConcertsProgramme2010/11www.hud.ac.uk/music-concerts

IntroductionPlease take time to look through the wonderful wealth of music-making offered by the University of Huddersfield's 2010-11concert season.

As well as giving plenty of opportunity for our own students to perform, either as soloists or in our many varied ensembles, we have invited a huge variety of visiting performers to inspire, challenge and entertain us with their music.

We are particularly pleased to welcome Sheffield-based Ensemble360 as our 'ensemble-in-residence': they give three lunchtimeconcerts and will be coaching our chamber music students. Their programmes always include some unusual and often unfairlyneglected pieces, and their communicative performances havebrought them many keen fans in the region.

This year's programme also features a number of leadingpractitioners in the field of popular music, which is becoming an increasingly important part of the Department's curriculum:their expertise as recording artists, singer-songwriters or DJscomplements the masterclass programme in classical music, which this year includes a return visit from that wizard of theflute, Wissam Boustany.

Whether your interests are in early or contemporary music, classical, electronic or pop, there's hopefully something that will intrigue you and entice you to one or both of our splendidvenues: the intimate Phipps Hall in the Creative Arts Building, or the more formal splendour of St Paul's, whose majestic organfeatures in a regular series of Wednesday recitals.

Please join us, and enjoy the feast we have laid on. I look forwardto welcoming you to a number of these events during the year.
