16 JUNE 2017 Week 8 —Term 2
Mercury Staff Changes Murrumburrah High School farewelled Josh
Wakem last week after 18 months. Josh
has left us to take up a permanent position
on the Central Coast. I’m sure you’ll join
me in wishing Josh all the best in his future
career. In his place Jay Larder will take over
the role as a PDHPE teacher as of next
Wednesday.
Open Afternoon On Monday 19th June we are holding an
open afternoon and information session for
all students entering Year 7 at Murrumbur-
rah High School in 2018. Prospective stu-
dents and parents are invited to the Mur-
rumburrah High School library at 5p.m.
We will be having a series of informal activ-
ities, showcasing the range of facilities we
have which will allow you and your child to
develop some familiarity with Murrumbur-
rah High School, its procedures and the
range of programs offered. Tours of the
school grounds will be held, with opportu-
nities for students to participate in a range
of mini-lessons from the Drama, Visual
Arts, Science, Agriculture and Industrial
Technology areas.
In addition to this information session Year
6 students will be asked to attend Murrum-
burrah High School on the afternoon of
Wednesday 21st June along with two days
of secondary school activities during Term
4.
Merit Assembly The Term 2 Merit Assembly will be held on
Tuesday 27th June in the school hall com-
mencing at 2.30pm. All members of the
school community are invited to join us.
Semester 1 reports Half yearly reports for students from Year
7 through to Year 10 are well on the way.
These reports will be mailed home on
Thursday 29th June. I would ask all parents
to read the teachers’ report comments, and
if improvement is recommended, to seek
their teachers’ advice on how this improve-
ment can be achieved. If you have concerns,
please feel free to contact the school earli-
er next term and make an appointment to
speak to the appropriate teacher.
Information Session An information evening will be held for
parents and current Year 8 and Year 10
students on Monday 24th July in the school
library. Year 8 into 9 will run from 5.30p.m
to 6.30p.m., whilst a Stage 6 (Years 11 and
12) information session will run from 6.30
p.m.
Enjoy.

On Wednesday the girls Senior Netball Team went to Wagga to compete in the River-ina Opens Netball Competition. We played well but due to injury we had to pull out
before the finals. Well done girls!

In the past few weeks we have had a number of students go to work places as part of
our Year 10 Work Experience Program. Madeline Hartwig was lucky enough to have
the opportunity to spend a week in the Office of Hon Katrina Hodgkinson MP, Mem-
ber for Cootamundra, Madeline, who is hoping to pursue a career in law or public
relations, found the week of experience invaluable. Another student, Emily Doohan, is
currently completing her work experience in the Royal Australian Navy aboard the
HMAS Melbourne.

Year 10 students received a visit from Kirsty Kemp, the School Engagement Officer for
TAFE NSW. Year 10 students are currently contemplating subject selections for their
HSC. Kirsty was able to offer them valuable career advice and help them investigate
different pathway options to their chosen careers.

Murchison meteorite
Henry Teys showing his fathers piece of the Murchison meteorite that hit the ground in
Victoria in 1969. Fragments totalled over 100kgs of which this piece is approx 2kgs and
worth a small fortune to collectors. The meteorite is classified as a Carbonaceous
Chondrites, these contain simple amino acids, possibly the precursor chemicals that
kicked started life on Earth.
