INTRODUCTIONIntroduction
This publication is an initiative of Murrindindi Shire Council’s Access and Inclusion Committee. The purpose of the Mobility Maps is to provide easy access to information, services and facilities within Murrindindi Shire for our communities and visitors. This booklet contains information and maps highlighting services and facilities within the central business districts of Alexandra, Eildon, Kinglake, Marysville and Yea.
Good access makes good business sense. Many local businesses in Murrindindi have participated in an ‘Access Friendly’ initiative that complements this publication. Businesses which have achieved the ‘Access Friendly’ accreditation display a sticker and are included in the ‘Access Friendly’ maps developed for each town. These maps, along with this booklet are available electronically on the Murrindindi Shire Council website at www.murrindindi.vic.gov.au or contact Council for a copy.
“Murrindindi Shire is a great place for residents and visitors alike. Council and the community are committed to ensuring that everyone feels welcome, no matter the level of each person’s ability. We hope these mobility maps help everyone to participate and make the most of time spentin our community.”
Margaret Abbey Chief Executive Officer

YeaJust north of the Great Divide the character-filled township of Yea is located at the convergence of the Yea and Goulburn Rivers.
Yea boasts historic buildings and a thriving main street with many pubs, restaurants and cafes. Wander through Melbourne’s closest classified wetlands and marvel at the unique flora and fauna. Visit the Y Water Discovery Centre to explore the interactive displays and stock up on local produce.
Visit the 200m long Cheviot Tunnel constructed in the 1800s using bricks hand made with local clay. The tunnel was part of the old Tallarook to Mansfield railway. The tunnel remains in excellent condition and now forms part of the Great Victorian Rail Trail. Together with the heritage listed Yea railway station, it is a reminder of the role railways played in the settlement of early Victoria.
