2018Munich as a business location. Facts and Figures

2 | Munich as a business location – Department of Labor and Economic Development

Dear Reader,

This year‘s edition of “Munich as a business location” keeps the narrative to a minimum and lets the numbers speak for themselves. The facts and figures presented provide a wide-ranging and up-to-date outline of the many and varied aspects of Munich‘s economy.

The numbers and tables make one thing abun-dantly clear: The Bavarian capital is a dynamic business base that still has huge upside poten-tial – witness the impressive data for economic

performance, purchasing power, employment/unemployment and high-tech industries and clusters. The list of selected companies in Munich alone reads like a “Who‘s who” of the German economy, alongside a significant number of major international players.

This publication also highlights the city‘s other strengths as a start-up hub, a knowledge repository and a popular destination for tourists. Data for trade fair operator Messe München and for Munich Airport testify to the impressive capa-bilities of Munich‘s public infrastructure and facilities, which are underpinned by the healthy finances of the Bavarian capital. Facts about current developments on the Munich office property market, major projects and construction plans in the pipeline round off this brief panorama.

Clearly, Munich possesses more than just a potent economy: It is also a dynamic venue for innovation. Especially in the field of digitization, it is worth noting that the city occupies a leading position among Germany‘s major cities.

I wish you an enjoyable and informative read.

Josef SchmidDeputy Mayor and Head of the Department of Labor and Economic Development
