Genre – Barry Keith Grant (1995)
“Suggests that genre allows audiences to
identify texts specifically by their familiar and
recognisable characteristics.”
In this album cover, the band can be seen in the
window holding their instruments. The
instruments they are holding are all instruments
which are immediately associated with Folk or
Indie. Also, the clothes worn by the band further
allow whoever is looking at the cover to know
exactly what kind of band they are.

David Buckingham (1993)
“Argues that genre is simply not given by the
culture, rather it is in constant process of
negotiation and change.”
The album cover does not immediately give itself
in to a specific genre. This may have been done
to show potential listeners, that they wish not to
be labelled or categorised into a specific label or
genre. They may have done this, so as that they
can evolve and change the music they make,
without causing much confusion or
disappointment amongst their fans.
