Multnomah Channel Yacht Club 50990 Dike Road Scappoose OR97056 503S435055 Since 1961 April 2014 fC The :frienc[{iest C{ub on The River fC St. Paddy's weekend has come and gone and we had a record year for club income not to mention fun. Thanks to all that provided service in cooking and cleaning the clubhouse. We served 130 McHale Burgers Friday night and we served 180 people dinner on Saturday night, unbelievable! Great Job goes out to Brian and John for heading up the dinners. Thanks, also goes out to all of the people that helped Brian and John prepare, cook and serve the dinners and clean the mess. The two Breakfasts were also a big hit. Our guests all said that this was the best year ever and they are looking forward to returning next year. The Band 2417 played Saturday night and had the dance floor packed for hours. The club shook more than I have ever seen. It was kind of scary at one point but we made it through the night and no worse for the wear. Thank you to all that gave raffle prizes and made our raffle a huge success. Because of the fantastic gifts and gift cards, we raised a record amount of money for the club. The Traeger pellet grill was the big prize and every person there wanted to win it including me. Sadly, I didn't win it. It went to a HlYC member. Thank you Ron and Penny for donating the Traeger and everybody that donated the amazing prizes and helped raise so much money for the club. Planning for Opening Day. This is the one event each year that is "Mandatory" as a member of MCYC, One person from each member's family must attend Opening Day. If you have a boat in our moorage, you should be taking it up river and in the parade of boats. Please make sure you contact Pat Senz, our Fleet Captain, and let him know that you will have your boat in the parade. Hopefully we get most of our boats out of the moorage and in the parade. If you need a ride on opening day, please contact whichever boat you are interested in riding on. Everybody should be on a boat and attending the cruise up river unless you are on a review vessel. If you want to ride on a boat and don't have a seat, please talk to Pat and he will do his best to place you aboard a boat. This is the one day each year that MCYC gets to claim your time. If there is some reason that you in no way can attend, make sure you call Pat Senz and get excused. Two unexcused absences get you kicked out of MCYC as per our club rules. Don't get mad at me, I didn't write the rules. Please do your best to participate, Thank you. Dress code is in your Club Roster, please make sure you dress to impress the Judges. White gloves are always nice. Just so you know ... Heather and Wayne are flying back from Florida just to attend Opening Day, just saying. Cruising Fun ... the weekend before Opening Day, we have the MCYC Annual Chili Cook -off at Coon Island. Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 26 th and come de-throne Kathryn and I at making the best chili. Kathryn and I made BBQ Meatball chili last year and took the honors. It really was tasty. This is one of the most popular cruises of the year and it's only 3 miles from the club. It gives you a chance to shake down any boat problems before Opening Day and taste some of the yummiest chili ever. Come just for the day or for the weekend. If you don't want to make chili, then come taste the chili and be a judge. Please contact our Cruise Captain (Gib Colistro) for details or a lift to Coon Island. Brian Hale says that this year he -1- will take the honors of best chili, I say ... Bring It! Gib promises to have prizes for the top 3 chili recipes. We'll see you on Coon Island April 26 th . Controversy ... Kathryn and I have rearranged the past Commodore pictures. Something had to be done because we were simply out of space. We knew going into this project that we would be making some of our members unhappy about moving the Daughters of Neptune. We have created enough room for 15 years of Commodore's to come. We are not finished yet. We are going to incorporate the Daughters pictures into the Commodore's picture for the year that they served as a Daughter of Neptune. They will be memorialized forever this way. When this project is complete, it will look classy and we will still have all of our Daughters of Neptune and the Past Commodore's on the wall. Please be patient with this project as it is a ton of work. Commodore, Dan YACHT CLUB WWW.MCYC1.0RG

First LadyKathrn!

Happy April! The daffodils and hyacinths are blooming all over our yard, and signs of Springare everywhere! I truly love this time of year ... except for the seasonal allergies that comeaccompany it. Being sick most of the month of March, had me running at slow speed, but I am

to say that after a doctor visit, and five prescriptions later, I am finally starting to feel. Warm, dry weather would really help!

e made it through a record breaking St. Paddy's weekend without sinking the club, and I havesay that the teamwork of participating club members was impressive! This annual party is a

really great opportunity to meet members from other yacht clubs, especially if you do not attend regular cruises. There's something for everyone, as can be observed by the wide age range of participants. New activities arealways a welcome addition, so if you missed it this year, plan on getting involved with our club's biggestfundraising activity of the year next year. You'll be glad you did!

Two of our newest members, Wayne Cozad II, and Heather Winters, left warm, sunnyFlorida behind, and flew back to Oregon for St. Paddy's weekend. They were nice enoughto bring the beautiful weather with them! Both were involved in the weekend longfestivities, even participating in the Saturday night meal prep. Other than Wayne getting ahard time for forgetting a Corned Beef in the oven, I think they had a really had a fun time.I caught up with Heather and Wayne to see if! could get some back ground I could share in my article, and thisis what I discovered.

Heather, a Bonneville Bee from Idaho Falls, Idaho, attended Idaho State University for accounting, marketing, business management and secretarial. She moved to Sacramento, CA where she gained knowledgein Real Estate, until she got a full-time job with Delta Airlines, working part-time at a Medical Temp agency.

In 1998, Heather moved from Sacramento to Portland with her son. She had been searching for herbiological mother, who she found, along with her sister and brother. She ended up working for Delta until theyfiled for bankruptcy, after which she stayed on as a ready reserve agent, and loved every minute of it. She callsherself a "seasonal girl" who fell in love with Portland, calling it a great place to live, who even loves the rain, calls the food outstanding, and finds the people genuine and accepting of all.

Wayne and Heather met in Portland while she was interviewing for a job at a chiropractic office. Waynewas doing the initial interviews, and apparently Heather passed, as she got the position, and worked there for 6years while still on call at Delta. After the first year, Wayne asked Heather out, and they have been togethersince. 2014 makes nine years, and they still really love spending time together.

Heather has one son, Jerriko, who is 23 years old. He is an amazing chef at Jake's Seafood and Grill indowntown Portland. She also has one grandson (can you believe that!), Braydon, who is "Grandma's Love" forsure! Her two 14 year chocolate brown old Persians are spoiled and loved, but currently live with their fosterparents in Portland, while Heather and Wayne are in Florida for months at a time.

Heather works for Wayne's company, Cube Management, LLC. It is a Global Sales, Marketing, Recruitingand Consulting Company. She posts jobs and does Social Media for the company.

The couple joined MCYC after Larry Pfiefer and Barb Dixon encouraged them to come take a tourwhile looking for a place to moor their 28' Bayliner. They wanted to meet new friends, and love boating, cruising, fishing and just enjoy being in the outdoors. They moved to Florida back in late September, and flyback and forth when they can, as both of their extended families all still live in Oregon. They wish they couldattend more club events, but participate as much as possible, and always love to catch up with everyone whenthey are in town.

With their small fleet (a small fishing boat, a 22' Chris-Craft, and a 33' Sea Ray) in Florida, theywelcome fellow members to come for a visit and share in some fun and sun, They plan on attending OpeningDay, so make sure to say hi if you see them cruising by!

In the words ofHeather. .. have fun and enjoy the life you've been given ... YOLO! (You Only LiveOnce).

CruiseCaptain

Hello allThe last draft of the 2014 MCYCcruise schedule can be found inthe next column .. I say last draft asCRYA has not finalized thecomplete schedule but at this pointI am pretty sure we are set.

A few things to note. The Sweet Heart Cruise will be toCoon Island not Riverplace, asturnout downtown has been low ornonexistent in the recent past andquite a few boats have ended up atCoon anyway.Next is the 4th of July cruise. Thisyear the 4th falls on a Friday andthe scheduled location is HaydenBay on the Columbia directlyacross from the Fort Vancouverfireworks. Teresa and I have donethis many times and it's a blast.Slips can be rented for roughly$25 - $40 for the night whichincludes power and the use of therestrooms. We choose slips on theup river end of the bay for anunobstructed view of thefireworks, Saturday night we haveGovernment Island East Dockreserved.Last but not least is an extensionto the Bald Eagle Days Cruise.Teresa and I have cruised thelower Columbia River Deltaextensively and plan to stay outfor the 2 week following thescheduled cruise. If anyone wouldlike to spend a few more days orweeks for that matter we would behappy to show you some of ourfavorite cruising destinations. These range from places likeWarren Slough, Steamboat

www.MCYC1.org

Slough, Batwater station, AstoriaWest Basin. Where we go can bedecided based on what the groupfeels would be best at the time.More details will follow as theyear progresses and we get closerto the cruise dates.Gib ColistroCruise Captain
