1 March 2016 Multiple District 105 Multiple District Lioness Chairman 2015 to 2017 - Angela Howard Chairman Angela’s Greetings Greetings everyone. The new year for me began just as busily as the last one finished and through January and February I have been out and about on my travels which have been both eventful and enjoyable. In January I attended another four Lioness Club meetings at Chelmsford, Downham Market, Thetford and Witham. I also had the pleasure of attending the Lioness District Meeting in District SE and chairing the District meeting in District EA. All the meetings were well attended and very enjoyable. Listening to all your reports and taking part in your meetings, it never ceases to amaze me just how much wonderful work you all do, and how fortunate your communities are to have such caring and compassionate people helping to make their world a better place. I have also attended another four meetings on District Business in EA and two Advisory Body meetings. The Advisory Body are a very united and dedicated team and continue to work very hard on your behalf, my thanks to them all for the very good job they are doing and their help and support to me personally. The highlight of the last two months has to be our Lioness Conference, whilst I think we were all looking forward to it, I know we all had some anxiety about how the very important debate regarding our future would run and conclude. I really enjoyed Conference. On Friday it was good to be able to spend time relaxing and meeting old friends and new, catching up with all their news from up and down the country and preparing for our busy AGM the next day. On the Saturday, as I looked out from the top table is was wonderful to see so many Lionesses present with every Lioness Club being represented, something I don’t think has happened in a long time. It would be great if we could see the same at the next Conference! The debate was heartfelt, lively and all the Lionesses spoke most eloquently, passionately and with great dignity. It was also heart warming to see our Lions present who had come to show their strength of feeling and support to the Lionesses and how they want us to continue to “Serve Too” long into the future. Our thanks to them for all the support they have shown us over these difficult and worrying times. I don’t think any of us will forget Tricia Stuart the “Calendar Girl” what a very funny and motivational speaker, just what we needed to get us back into a light hearted frame of mind; ready to enjoy all the fun and fellowship to come at our Banquet and Ball in the evening. A really enjoyable evening with great company, good food and our “Abba Tribute” that got us all singing and dancing and having a great time! I look forward to Conference 2017. Since returning from Conference we have now all received the really good news from Council Chairman Lion Simon Moss, that the previous dead line regarding our continuation has been extended to 1st July 2018. Also that I have been invited with our MD Clubs Coordinator Lion John to the next Council of Governors meeting which takes place at the Lions MD Convention in May. These are positive steps forward and hopefully now we can continue to make good progress in securing a bright future for us all. Continue to serve with a smile, which costs nothing, but gives so much. I look forward to meeting more Lionesses and working with you all over the coming months. Co-ordinator Lion John’s MessageIt was really great to meet so many of you at the 28th MD Lioness Conference inLetchworth, a couple of weekends ago. (Is it really that long – how time flies when youare having fun!). Throughout the day I felt the Lionesses behaved with respect, decency and integrity – you did yourselves proud given the trying situation you findyourselves in.You will have received my summary of the discussions that took place withChairman of Council, Lion Simon Moss, and the issues he agreed to take up on yourbehalf. You can only sit and wait the outcome of his and the Council of Governorsdeliberations.Personally, whilst Lion Simon did not give direct answers to many of yourquestions, I came away a little more optimistic about the “survival” of Lionesses than I had been at thebeginning of the day. That is not to say there will be a “successful” outcome, whatever that may mean, but I feel more hopeful. The issue regarding the interpretation of Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) is still up in the air. Ihave been consulting with others since Conference and it seems there is a possibility (no more than that)and given the right circumstances a Lioness Club could be a CIO in their own right. I await furtherdevelopments and I will continue to keep you all fully informed.I know your Advisory Body are looking at various strategies for a way forward, based on your views givenat Conference. These strategies will be discussed at the Advisory Body Meeting on 3rd April. Please remain positive. I know these are trying times, but you have the support of many Lions both fromthose who are Members of sponsoring Lions Clubs and those who are not. You are not alone.Once again thanks to all Clubs for their reports and minutes, they provide valuable information, and thanksalso for your continuing support.
