Import a short (say fve minutes or so) but already edited piece o video or an

animation into a video editing application. Study it careully and choose 20 or 30

single rames which you eel will best convey the narrative or import o the whole

    clip on their own. roduce these as (a) a storyboard! and"or (b) a time#based

    animatic.

    $or this pro%ect! I too& a short animation title 'he rtists* which ta&es about

3.02 minutes long. his animation was directed and animated by Sean +ullen in

year 20,,. he artist was a story about two rival painters who ailed to see the

bigger picture. hrough the whole scenes! these two very rival painters was

eagerly competing each other by getting much bigger canvas rom time to time

in order to paint a scenic view o sunset. In the end! they reali-ed that they madeuite a pair by putting their views/ and not orgetting their paintings in much

    bigger picture.

his 3 animation in a nutshell is a very simple! compact and versatile as

well as it contains values and provides easy understanding. he characters that

have been developed by the designer were very nice and memorisable. ue to

this! I have decided to choose this short animation as my new target ob%ective in

    order to complete my tas&.

    2.0 Objcti!

he ob%ective o this pro%ect is to create storyboard and animatic storyboard o

the 3 animation! titled 'he rtists*. 1oth storyboard and animatic defnitely

must ollow the duration time o the story. ven though this animation is simple!

the storyline however must not be understated as something simplistic as well.

his is due to the act that the storyline is well made and thus reecting

e4cellence in it. udience were presented with silly fghts o two artists who want

to draw the same scene o a view. 5ithout they reali-e! their paintings are

interconnected and can be %oint to orm a much bigger painting.

In a meantime! a storyboard is a seuence o still images that tells a story!

    li&e a comic strip. n animatic is a sort o s&etch o a movie composed entirely o

still images within a time#based environment/ each image is held or the duration

o the scene it represents in the fnal! ull#motion and movie. ach still image

should capture the essence o a scene. he animatic will show the rhythm o the

edits that are proposed (or! in this case! have already been made) and the ow

    o the whole movie.

ctually! a well#defned storyboard helps to ensure that everyone

understands the goals o the pro%ect and how the animation! video and audioootage should wor& together. ven though! I need to do a reverse cycle o

animation/ rom a fnish story then I should come up with the storyboard and

animatic. Selection o scene is very important to match with the storyline.

he di6erence between a storyboard and an animatic is that a storyboard

is static media wheresomething that might pin to the wall i it were created on

physical media. In general! animatics are animated storyboards. hey are used

or various purposes depending on the medium which are being produced.

nimatic also need to ollow thetime#based and plays or the ull length o the

fnished piece. 7ser %ust! can sit bac& and rela4 while watching the animatic.

o fnish this static storyboard and animatic! I have used a variation o methods.

ter I chose an e4act short story that I want! I need to brea& the animation videointo a still image. his step could help me choose a good picture to ma&e a static

storyboard. hen! I decided to use 5indow +ovie +a&er application to convert

the video to a bundle series o the still images. hen! I got about 89 snapshots o

    the video.

hen! I chose 30 snapshots o the images that contain message and every

scene or images have a hoo& up o each other. t this stage! I really need to

choose the best picture to tell the whole story. hus! audience will not conuse

about my storyboard and the real story.

he ne4t stage! I need to s&etch bac& the chosen pictures selected intorames. In this pro%ect! I used ,3cm 4 :cm rame;s si-e or my storyboard. ter it

is fnished! I then drew the storyboard.

$rom the chart! shows that >0 per cent o respondent agreed that they are

understand the storyline rom the animatic storyboard. ven though! the statistic

shows that the understand o animatic story compares to static storyboard are

decrease! but the data show the positive response.

?reating an animatic is basically giving a lie to a static storyboard. ?lientswould understand more o what the animation will loo& li&e and the story is. his

is because animatic has been used as the method post#storyboard to determine

the camera angle! the ow o animation and the timing. nimatic storyboard has

a way to convey motion that a traditional smooth owing animation does not.

5ith the absence o many rames in between and using only important

&ey rames to suggest changes o movement! camera angle and timing!

animatics are more abstracted as compared to animation. =owadays! animatics

are used or every day in advertising industry to test commercials. hey are used

to preview scenes o live#action flms beore they are shot. In animation feld!animatics will be fnding in the pre#production stages.
