MULTI-APPLICATION ENVIRONMENTAL BUILDING & LINING BOARD

ModakBoard is a newly developed, extensively tested modern building board used in construction. It is made from a mixture of magnesium oxide (MgO), non organic minerals, bonders and fibre mesh composites. ModakBoard is completely free of toxins, including formaldehyde, silica, asbestos, heavy metals, and organic solvents.

It’s non-toxic, naturally resistant to fire, water, and impact; and increases the R value in any panel application (meets all 8 Australian climatic zones).

ModakBoard has extensive applications in construction for residential and commercial properties. It is also of particular interest to those renovating or repairing homes where either plasterboard gypsum style linings or other kinds of deteriorating high maintenance plasterboard cement derivative products have been used. These suffer from a variety of endemic problems, but have been the best the building industry could supply in Australia, until very recently.

ModakBoard SpecificationsModakBoard is more expensive than paper lined plasterboard, but with substantial benefits. ModakBoard is 8 to 10 times stronger than plasterboard reducing loss and breakage. Also, as ModakBoard does not degrade in water, there is no replacement requirement after flooding... simply sand and paint. Both examples resulting in huge reductions in maintenance costs.

Additionally, ModakBoard has low moisture absorption levels, is resistant to mould and mildew, blocks noise with an acoustic value of RW+Ctr 55, is imperviousness to termites and ModakBoard is virtually fire proof!

ModakBoard Overview

Tool RequirementsNo special tools are required to use ModakBoard. It can be sawn, drilled, nailed, screwed and planed, just like timber. Once in position ModakBoard will have an exceptional life span exceeding that of all homes constructed to date using conventional plasterboard, paper lined plaster, or timber lining methods.

ModakBoard has the qualities of timber but has no combustibility to 800ºC and no flame out at 1000ºC.

The product has a very wide range of uses for residential, commercial and industrial buildings, schools, hospitals, Government & social housing, utility buildings etc. Both in interior and exterior use. The board has additional applications in fire safety, electrical switchboard backing blocks, electrical wiring channels and internal electrical risers in multi-story and commercial buildings.

Appearance of ModakBoard Off white in colour with one smooth side and one textured. Edges are either square or tapered to meet required end use.

ModakBoard Fire Wall Systems ModakBoard Party Wall Shalftliner SystemThe ModakBoard Shaft Liner Party Wall System is designed to provide a separating firewall meeting Australian standards in FRL 60/60/60 (timber frame) and FRL90/90/90 in (steel frame). This relates to dwellings which have a common or party wall (ie. terraces, townhouses, semi-detached houses).

The ModakBoard ShaftLiner Party Wall System sits within two party walls comprising of a double frame wall (min. 90mm width each frame) with the ModakBoard fire barrier between the frames.

Fire resistance is created by a central 10mm ModakBoard panel which provides fire resistance of up to 4 hours.

The Modak Party wall shaft liner system is less expensive as 1 x 10mm board replaces the heavier and more cumbersome 16mm and 25mm fire rated plaster board so is faster to install. ModakBoard will not degrade in rainy weather during installation.

Supplied as kit 3000 x 600 x 10mm sheets, U track, C channel , H studs and capping.

ModakBoard Two Board Masonry Fire Wall AlternativeEliminate expensive masonry Fire Walls in high rise buildings.

The ModakBoard 2 board system provides FRL 120/120/120 to FRL 240/240/240 using 2 x 20mm boards with specified medium to high density rock wool batts (80 to 120gsm) on prefabricated cold rolled steel frame. The system also creates an acoustic rating to RW 70.

StrengthModakBoard is strong. It will last a lot longer than standard building boards therefore replacement and maintenance do not become an issue. The less you have to replace, the less damage to the environment.

FireModakBoard - for 100% Fire Resistant floors, ceilings, walls, decking and external linings.

FloodModakBoard will not degrade in water. It remains inert and can be unscrewed from timber forming to enable the timber to dry out before being re-screwed into the forming. The product simply requires a clean up and repaint and is re installed with normal power tools or screwdrivers. No messy plaster board degrade and no damage.

TermitesOne of the biggest issues for Australian homes is Termites. ModakBoard is made from an uniquely formulated, non-toxic fibre composite mix so is impervious to termites and insects.

Carbon NeutralCement board and plasterboard manufacturing use kiln temperatures in excess of 1300°C. ModakBoard is produced at temperatures around 650°C so produces 50% less CO2.During the manufacturing process, in carbonation, ModakBoard draws back 90% of the CO2 used to produce it and makes it a virtually carbon neutral product.

Tree FriendlyModak has a Green environmental policy and has been determined to reduce CO2 output in manufacture. ModakBoard uses minimal wood in the manufacturing process, leaving the trees to draw back carbon dioxide from the atmosphere in natural form.

earth FriendlyDue to the makeup of the board, ModakBoard will last for periods much longer than standard building boards, therefore requires less repair. Even where the board has been damaged, it can be recut and used again, unlike plaster board.

Environmental Information

How is ModakBoard different?ModakBoard has been tested to 1200°C with no combustion or flame out.

ModakBoard does not absorb water and so superheated steam will not “blow out” the product as it may do with standard building bricks in fire conditions.

ModakBoard is totally fire resistant. It will not burn in a fire storm. ModakBoard is applicable in BAl 12.5 to 40 and FZ flame zone regulation areas when used to protect exposed timber framing eaves joists etc. Tested by the CSIRO to worst case scenario fire storm conditions. Meets AS/NZS 1530.8.1 & 8.2, AS/NZS 3959 and AS/NZS 3837 in non combustible material (NOTE: AS/3837 replaces the old AS 1530/3 BCA standard).

ModakBoard insulation properties help protect internal furnishing from internal combustion and flash burning from high external temperatures.

ModakBoard will not ignite from ember attacks. Bushfire ember attack is the largest single national contributor to home loss.

ModakBoard is 8 to 10 times stronger than normal plaster board products and insulates from intense heat and cold.

ModakBoard will not degrade or break down in water and resists mould and mildew so is ideal for flood prone areas.

ModakBoard is of no interest to insect pests and termites.
