MUGHAL ARCHITECTURE

The Mughal period marked a striking revival of Islamic architecture in northern India. Under the patronage of the Mughal emperors, Persian, Indian, and various provincial styles were fused to produce works of unusual quality and refinement.Examples:-Taj Mahal by Shah JahanThe Agra Red Fort by Akbar etc.

DESCRIPTION OF TAJ MAHAL

The most outstanding monument built by Emperor Shahjahan is the Taj Mahal at Agra. It is on the bank of River Yamuna. This

grand mausoleum was built in the memory of his beloved Queen Mumtaj Mahal. It has been described as "a dream in

marble designed by fairies and completed by jewelers."It is made of pure white marble. As a monument of love "it is

unsur passed in the world." It stands on a platform of 8.5 meters height. The mausoleum rises to a height of 32.4 meters. It is

surmounted by cupolas at each corner. The bulbous dome in the centre of the cupolas has the ap pearance of an inverted lotus.

There are four smaller domes at the four corners of the building. Four minarets stand at each corner of the terrace. The outer

walls and the inte rior walls are richly decorated with ex quisite inlay work and calligraphy. It is an spectacular example of

Mughal Ar chitecture and one of the seven wonders of the world.

DESCRIPTION OF LOTUS TEMPLE

Lotus Temple is a brilliant piece of architecture that is located in the capital city of Delhi. You can site this temple at Mandir Marg in South Delhi and is largely frequented by travelers from all parts of the world every year. It is also

known as the Bahai House of Worship and is built of marble, dolomite, cement and sand. Lotus Temple is so named

because of the lotus like structure of the temple. It was built in the 20th century and enthralled all tourists since its

opening. Lotus Temple in Delhi was found by the believers of the

Bahai Faith, which was founded by Baha'ullah. This amazing piece of edifice is shaped like a half opened lotus flower built

of sparkling white marble stone. Since its inception, the Lotus Temple, Delhi has drawn millions of tourists with its

sheers beauty and architectural wonder. It has been recorded that is one of the most visited monuments in India.
