Tomorrow we are joining many other NZ schools to help raise funds to rebuild the Waiau School and community swimming pool that was destroyed in the recent North Canterbury earthquake. Students all over NZ will pay a gold coin donation to turn up in mufti tomorrow, while other schools and businesses are running cake stalls, raffles, etc. A Givealittle page has also been set up on Facebook. There is no theme for tomorrow, but Waiau School’s uniform is green! Don’t forget to bring along your gold coin donation; this will be collected from your classroom by School Council members. Book Room Accounts! Students Please Note: Names of students with money owing to the Book Room will be listed in TAN next week, so that parents who haven’t been advised by their child that they owe money will then be aware. Most of these accounts are quite small, however we do need to recover the cost of resources used, so please check the list on the noticeboard opposite reception and if your name is there, please clear your account. - Thanks! I know I did! This year the WAVE team have been busy focusing on Sunsmart week. We organised "The Amazing Race" with many different activities, taught a couple of classes the Sunsmart song, and also did a Mufti Day where students were encouraged to wear sunny colours! Money we raised went to CANTEEN and our Sponsored student in India. We hope everyone enjoyed Sunsmart week! Remember to wear your hats and stay sunsmart this summer! By Lily Brophy The WAVE team were awarded sunsmart prizes for their efforts in promoting sun awareness The History Lesson ~ Evaluation of Presentation On Monday night the 28th November, M2 performed short excerpts from Macbeth and also showed their Te Heke Omarama presentations. My group was first up, we showed our interview with Dean Nelson about what the land was like before the Pakeha came, and what the traditional food sources of the Maori were. I was very nervous before showing the video because it was very long; when we were performing to the classes all the little kids were bored, but we caught the adults’ attention. After the whole class performed their Te Heke Omarama presentations we were on to our Macbeth excerpts. I think our group chose a very important scene of Macbeth, when the witches meet Macbeth and tell him his second set of prophe- cies. I played a witch, alongside Christine and Ryan. Tom was Macbeth but he had to act scared and frightened which was a bit of a challenge because usually Macbeth is brave and so sure of himself. I am extremely proud of both of my groups, because even though we may have completely finished our presentations and learned all of our lines we still present- ed them with pride. We had some good comments from the audience; my Mum came to watch our “History Lesson”, she said it was great and all of the groups had performed really well. I definitely think it was better than the rehearsals. I think learning about Te Heke Omarama and Macbeth was very worthwhile. It was a great way to get the information across to the parents and children. Overall, I think it was great to perform in front of an audience (as much as I didn’t want to). I had so much fun! Amie MacLennan, M2

The History Lesson ~ Evaluation of Presentation On Monday night the 28th November, M2 performed short excerpts from Macbeth and also showed their Te Heke Omarama presentations. Parent Support Group for parents who have challenging children are meeting at the Musterers’ Hut on Tuesday 6th December for coffee and to support each other. Come along and share your thoughts with like minded parents.

Kia Ora and Welcome to TAN A full week and two days to go to the end of year, and the pace is picking up. Year 1-10 teachers have spent the last two days moderating each other’s work according to the National Standards in reading, writing and mathematics, and the expectations of the New Zealand Curriculum Years 9 and 10. This is in preparation for our reporting to parents at the end of the year, and for submitting our National Standards data to the Ministry of Education as part of annual reporting. A first look at the information suggests we have a lot of students at or above in reading and writing, but it might be time to work on extending those “at” the writing standard to “above”, as well as targeting a group below the standard. Portfolios for Middle School students and Room 13 students are due back tomorrow (Friday). The other Junior School portfolios will be going home on Monday

Level 1and L3 Drama tomorrow will be the last external exams for our students this year, and we sent the last of the internally assessed work for external moderation away yesterday, so the qualifications season will be in suspense until about the 20

th January, when the envelopes are opened…

Seniors will have End of Year reports sent home shortly.

Year 6 enjoyed their day out in town very much, judging by the enthusiastic responses I heard from a couple of the participants.

Room 9 will be enjoying a lovely day out at Aoraki Mt Cook today seeing, amongst other things, to see if the lilies are out. Room 7 and 8 will be off on their picnic to The Musterers’ Hut

We fare-welled the Year 13 students at a dinner on Tuesday evening, accompanied by their parents and with teachers – who had, in four cases, taught them in our New Entrants class. What a fine group of individuals they are, and we look forward to them making their ways out into the world!

Water and Milk month has drawn to a close, but it has been such a smooth non-event I am thinking of making it a permanent feature. Let me know what you think!

The South Canterbury Rugby Man is here today, but he could only spare us an hour in between Aoraki Mt Cook School and Tekapo, so we had to make do with just two groups. He also gave us some great Crusaders posters, and several new rugby balls for the PE department.

Outdoor Education Week for all Year 7-10 students starts on Monday. Parents of those involved should have had the note home about the details, but for those who don’t know, it is one of the many special features for TAS Middle School students. They are divided up into mixed age groups of about ten, and then take part in a weeks’ worth of activities in these teams. It is great for Year 9-10 students to get experience leading groups in problem solving outdoors, and for all students to get experience in the key competencies of relating to others, participating, and contributing. All the while they are working in the great outdoors around Twizel, so at the very least they get some idea of places they can go and things they can do in the holidays, while managing their risks safely.

End of School Assembly and Prize Giving is on Monday 12th at 1.00pm in the Events Centre Theatre. All parents and friends of the school are welcome to join us in celebrating a fine year’s achievement. Students will be dismissed from school following this, at around 3.00pm. Coming Events: 2nd December Rooms 7 and 8 outing to Musterers’ Hut 5th December Outdoor Ed Week begins for M1-3 9th December School Picnic Day 12th December Top House and End of Year Assembly 13th December Teacher Only Day Fri 27th Jan 2017 Course Confirmation Mon 30th Jan 2017 School Begins
