OUR VISION

To be the pre-eminent

communications management school

OUR MISSION

To develop innovative professionals in the

practice, development and management

of communications to serve the needs of

industry and society through

education, research and

advocacy.

Started in 1991, Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA) is an autonomous non-profit management education institution. MICA has set a precedent as the first residential academic institution in the country, wholly dedicated to meeting the needs of the comm-unications industry. MICA’s PGDM(C) programme is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

Communications is at the heart of MICA’s academic programmes since its inception. The millennium heralded forces of change at work in the market. The accelerated diffusion of info-rmation technology, the frenetic proliferation of media and new media options, the heightened and global competition, the established reality of fragmented markets, and the indispensability of technology redefined the ways in which markets and consumers interact. MICA made the transition from communications to communications management realizing that a response to the emerging consumer needs will be crucial component of business leadership.

MICA complements the role that management education plays in modernizing and prof-essionalizing communications-driven businesses. A MICAn’s expertise lies in understanding the relevance of the emerging avenues of communications to the industry and society today and in being equipped to deal with their myriad complexities. A MICAn redefines the traditional role of a manager to steer brands and organizations through the power of sharper consumer insight expressed through effective communications. Today, it is the alma mater of professionals who are serving in the brand management, marketing, marketing research, advertising, public relations, event and entertainment management, media sectors, and emerging businesses such as broadcasting, retail and design communications, digital communications, disaster manage-ment, development communications and government departments.

The Institute’s reputation, carved over the past 21 years by seasoned faculty and a global alumni network, attracts the most talented and ambitious young minds from India and abroad.

The MICA brand assures the delivery of current, reliable and cost-effective communications management skills.

The single most important aspect that makes MICA stand apart from the other management schools in the country is the strength and design of its curriculum. The courses are structured and taught with the intention of creating communications management specialists who are not only able to understand the multiple requirements of business, specifically of those organizations that are communications-driven in realizing their strategy and effectiveness, but are also uniquely skilled to identify innovative consumer insights.

MICA has a continuous feedback system made up of two streams. Our alumni keep in touch with the current batch of students and appraise them of the challenges in the real world. Our faculty, drawn from practicing professionals and academics from around the world, cover every aspect of communications management. Together, they provide the balance to academic learning. MICA is thus able to constantly update its curricula with relevance to its students’ career needs. The emphasis in the programme is to develop students’ skill in communications management. The programme also focuses on:l Imparting a sense of value that encompasses not only work ethics, but also a commitment

to, and a passion for, marketing and communications as a science, especially in commercial and social organizations

l Develop the mental discipline to blend concepts and ideas with strategic planning and action creatively and innovatively.

The PGDM(C) has set a remarkable pace and recognition for itself since its inception. MICA has evolved into one of the premier programmes in the country, endorsed by 100 per cent campus placements with corporate houses in India and abroad.

URRICULUM DESIGN

MICA believes that managerial leadership is based on sound and in-depth knowledge, ethical concerns and appropriate behavioral orientation. MICA curriculum is designed to enhance the knowledge and shape the behavior of participants by innovative pedagogical tools. The curriculum is updated through a zero base review every year as we are in the field of communications management which is dynamic and a fast evolving domain. In the last few years communication technology revolutionized the medium through which we communi-cate and ‘as medium is the message’ the world of communication has changed.

The curriculum at MICA incorporates the rapid changes in the environment, plugging the knowledge gaps with introduction of new courses. A course titled ‘Leadership, Culture and Communications’ integrates behavioural aspects with nuances of culture. Management skill building courses such as Elements of Business Finance, Organizational Dynamics and Human Resource Management, Operations Management and Excel Macro Workshops are a part of the curriculum to ensure basics of General Management. The strength of MICA curriculum is its adaptability to the Communications Industry. Many of the latest trends in Communications Industry that are anticipated have been offered in the curriculum at MICA.

The existing specializations are reconfigured regularly to keep it relevant and new speciali-zations will be introduced to address the emerging trends in the domain of communications.

The symbolism of MICA’s logo has been

explained thus:

The two triangles are the basic structural units of the rock crystal

MICA. The purity and symmetry of the rock crystal lending itself to purity of

thought and its logical rational application.

The two triangles also symbolize the beginning of MICA’s objective and their accomplishment. The

first triangle in grey colour is the untutored, raw pupil. The second triangle, in white, is the graduating student–

clear and perceptive in his/her thinking.
