Organizations like the Peterson Garden project are working to change this reality.

The Peterson Garden Project has partnered with neighborhoods across the city of Chicago to develop community gardens…

Community gardens are…

single pieces of land gardened collectively by a group of people.

Gardens improve quality of life for members

of the neighborhood.

Gardens add to the beauty in the community

and awareness of living things.

Eating locally-produced food reduces

fuel consumption.

Gardens are areas of recreation and

exercise, and they reduce stress.

They date back to World War II…

Victory Gardens were planted by families in the United States

(the Home Front) to help prevent a food shortage…

on their school grounds and used their produce

in their school lunches…

Northeastern was the

site of Chicago’s

largest victory garden.

30 acres large.

Northeastern Illinois University began building a campus
