LA CORONEL LEADS ALL THE WAY HOME IN QEIIBy Claire Novak-Crosbyt @BH_CNovak
The name of the race was fitting, given her history.John Oxley's La Coronel shipped to England to
run in the Coronation Stakes (G1) this June, and gave a good account of herself when fifth against the likes of Winter, Roly Poly, and Hydrangea.
But it was the $500,000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Presented by Lane's End (G1T) Oct. 14 at Keeneland that set the stage for the 3-year-old Colonel John filly's breakout performance, and La Coronel responded to trainer Mark Casse's faith with a front-running rout under Jose Lezcano to collect her first grade 1 win.
"I think she was a little confused over there going the opposite way (at Ascot)," Oxley said. "It was a wonderful environment there and she was a little aggitated when she came back. Today she looked more settled in the paddock, and Jose knows her now, and he just rode the perfect race.
"And I want to give all the credit to Mark Casse. He bought this filly out of the 2-year-old sale on his judgment, and 98% of the credit goes to him. All I do is pay the bills."
Something about Keeneland agrees with the dark bay filly, who stepped up there in October of 2016 to win the JPMorgan Chase Jessamine Stakes (G3T), and returned this spring for a victory in the Appalachian Stakes Presented by Japan Racing Association (G3T). She has never been beaten at the Lexington track.

La Coronel (inside) holds off Daddys Lil Darling to win the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland
BLOODHORSE DAILY PAGE 5 OF 23SUNDAY OCTOBER 15, 2017Download the FREE smartphone app
Nursed along through a moderate pace Saturday in the 1 1/8-mile event after breaking well from post 6 in a field of 10 peers, La Coronel led the procession through fractions of :23.81, :48.60, and 1:13.47 before Lezcano went to work entering the lane. Although Daddys Lil Darling kicked on well from a stalking third, she was unable to bridge the gap through a 1:36.97 mile, and wound up second by half a length.
"I wanted to go to the lead," Lezcano said. "She was very comfortable there. Last time I rode her (in the grade 2 Sands Point Stakes Sept. 16 at Belmont Park), she jumped a little bit early into the bit, but after that she relaxed on the backside. Today she broke and was very comfortable (on the lead) so I let her be. She was comfortable the whole way around."
The final time on a firm Haggin Turf Course was 1:48.99. Off at odds of 5-1, La Coronel returned $12.20, $7, and $4.80. Daddys Lil Darling paid $10.40 and $6.80 at 9-1, and 20-1 shot Madam Dancealot brought $8.60 when she completed the trifecta 3 1/2 lengths further back.
Uni, Beau Recall, New Money Honey, Dream Dancing, Proctor's Ledge, Con Te Patiro, and Unforgetable Filly completed the order of finish. Wuheida was scratched.
"She left there running,"
assistant trainer David Carroll said of La Coronel's performance. "But you could tell her ears were going back and forth, so that told me she was very comfortable with what she was doing. Jose used that to his advantage and she kicked in awfully hard.
"She loves this turf course and some horses do, some horses don't. And what can you say about the Oxleys? They're the greatest owners in the world. We're just so happy to have them."
La Coronel, who was bred by Kim Nardelli, Rodney Nardelli, Susan Bunning, A. Jaffreys, and B. Jaffreys out of the Chester House mare Listen, has five wins and two seconds from 12 starts for earnings of $754,844. She was a $375,000 purchase by East-West Stable from Winner's Circle
Thoroughbreds' consignment to the Ocala Breeders' Sales' April 2016 sale of 2-year-olds in training. She also went through the ring for $37,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall 2015 yearling sale, when Teresa and David Palmer bought her from Nardelli Sales.
La Coronel's connections will meet to plan the future for their newly minted top-level winner.
"They don't have a race for her in the Breeders' Cup, so I don't know (what's next)," Oxley said. "We may give her a rest until next year."
"Some people might have doubted her, but she showed her true colors today," Carroll remarked. BH

REDZEL SPRINTS TO VICTORY IN THE EVERESTBy Bob Kieckhefer
It was impossible to miss Redzel's bright red colors as the field was sent on its way for the inaugural run-
ning of The TAB Everest Stakes (G1) at Randwick Oct. 14. At the finish, any colors would have been unmis-takable as the 5-year-old son of Snitzel drove on to a three-quarter-length victory.
Vega Magic finished second in the "pay-to-play" sprint, modeled on Gulfstream Park's Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (G1). Brave Smash came in third and the one-time world's top sprinter, Chautauqua, finished fourth.
The Everest was worth AUS$10 million (about $7.9 million), making it the richest grass race in the world.
Redzel, trained by the father-and-son team of Peter and Paul Snowden and owned by the large Triple Crown Syndicate, jumped out well in the 1,200-meter sprint and raced just outside pacesetter Houtzen around the turn and into the stretch. With 200 meters to run, jockey Kerrin McEvoy gave him his cue and Redzel quickly opened up a daylight advantage.
Vega Magic, a lukewarm favorite, rallied boldly well out on the track but couldn't quite close the gap. Houtzen faded to finish seventh and the second favorite, She Will Reign, beat only one horse.
"Couldn't have worked out any better," McEvoy told Seven Network. "Woo-hoo! We had a dream run outside the leader. I am over the moon."
Redzel is out of the Rubiton mare Millrich, who died just weeks after he was foaled. He came to The Everest off a full month's layoff following a victory in the Bowermans Office Furniture Shorts (G2) at Randwick. Much of the attention in that race was focused on Chautauqua, who was making his first start of the season and finished with enthusiasm to get home seventh.
The Everest differs from the Pegasus in that it required a three-year buy-in commitment for each gate, but like the Pegasus, it offered gate buyers the options of running their own horse, trading or selling the slot, or finding a horse with which to partner.
That last option landed Redzel in the 12-horse field, filling the slot held by bloodstock agent James Harron. He earned the winner's share of AUS$5.8 million (about $4.58 million).
There was some question whether a "buy-in" race would fly in Australia, which has its own ways. But an enthusiastic crowd of more than 33,000 turned out at Randwick to enjoy the race and enthusiasm, while not exactly at Melbourne Cup (G1) pitch, was high throughout the country.
Redzel now has five straight wins and complete attention on the world stage. BH

GUNNEVERA TUNES UP FOR BREEDERS' CUP By BloodHorse Staff
Margoth's multiple graded stakes winner Gunne-vera stepped up his preparation for the Nov. 4
Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) at Del Mar with a six-fur-long breeze Oct. 14 at Gulfstream Park West.
The 3-year-old son of Dialed In was timed in 1:15 under jockey Edgard Zayas.
"It was a nice work. He went very well," trainer Antonio Sano said. "The track was heavy. It was not a fast track."
It was the colt's fourth move since finishing second behind West Coast in the Aug. 26 Travers Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets (G1) at Saratoga Race Course off a win in the Aug. 6 Tangelo Stakes at Gulfstream Park. He has won five of 13 starts, including the Xpressbet Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) and Saratoga Special Stakes (G2).
"He will have two more workouts here and then he'll be ready for the Breeders' Cup," said Sano, who will send his first Breeders' Cup starter to California Oct. 28. "This is so important for me and my family. I'm so proud to run a horse in the Breeders' Cup Classic."
Gunnevera will meet defending race winner Arrogate and grade 1 winners Gun Runner and West Coast, among others, in the 1 1/4-mile Classic.
"It looks like there is a lot of speed in the race, which is good for me, but there are some very good horses in the race," Sano said. BH

STELLAR WIND WORKS FOR BREEDERS' CUP DISTAFFBy BloodHorse Staff
Hronis Racing's champion Stel-lar Wind worked six furlongs
in 1:13 3/5 Oct. 14 in her penulti-mate breeze at Santa Anita Park before she moves to Del Mar for final preparations for the Longines Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1) Nov. 3.
Trainer John Sadler worked Stellar Wind in company with That's a Lady, who was timed in 1:14 1/5 for six furlongs.
"It was a good work for her," said jockey Victor Espinoza, who was aboard for the drill.
"The track was a little slow, so the time was good. She's getting ready. She's going in the right direction right now and she's doing good."
Working for the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) Saturday morning was $1 million TVG Pacific Classic Stakes (G1) winner Collected for Bob Baffert (six furlongs, 1:14). Sadler trainee Accelerate also worked six furlongs in 1:14 for the Las Vegas Breeders'
Cup Dirt Mile (G1).Sadler expects to give Stellar
Wind one more breeze at Santa Anita before shipping to Del Mar. Richard Mandella has a similar agenda in mind for Zenyatta Stakes (G1) and Santa Anita Oaks (G1) winner Paradise Woods (Distaff) and Rodeo Drive Stakes (G1T) victress Avenge (Filly & Mare Turf).
"They'll have one more work here and maybe one small one at
Del Mar," Mandella said.Other notable works at Santa
Anita Saturday came from graded winners Estrechada (six furlongs, 1:16), Imperative (six furlongs, 1:14), Cambodia (seven furlongs, 1:28 3/5), Decked Out (four furlongs, :52 1/5, training track), and Itsinthepost (four furlongs, :49 2/5, training track). BH

RETIRED PUERTO RICO RUNNERS START JOURNEY TO MAINLANDBy Erin Sheat @BH_EShea
Eight retired Thoroughbreds from Puerto Rico started their
United States Department of Ag-riculture-required eight days of quarantine Oct. 11, the first step on their journey to the contiguous United States, according to Caribbe-an Thoroughbred Aftercare.
The eight who have started quarantine are: Poker Dave, who is going back to his breeder Karen Hickman; Sweetlandofliberty and Rodriguito, who are being retired to the Exceller Fund; Victor Spider, heading to his breeders, Mr. and Mrs. David Randal; Salientito, who will go to the farm of his breeder's (A.T. Skinner) daughter; Winning Dubai, headed to Old Friends Equine near Georgetown; Ugottabcatty going to his former owner in Washington state; and Lallie, who is returning to her breeder, Stonehaven Steadings.
Since Hurricane Maria hit the island Sept. 20, the nearly 800 horses at Hipódromo Camarero near San Juan have been surviving off minimal supplies in damaged barns. Various industry members—including Thoroughbred Charities of America, American Association of Equine Practitioners, The
Jockey Club, Brook Ledge, Ocala Breeders' Sales, and Bonnie Heath Farm's Kim Heath—worked to get shipments of feed and vet supplies to the island.
The CTA's Shelley Blodgett said levels of feed, hay, and shavings at the racetrack have improved, but the organization is being asked to retire more horses than usual.
"(Puerto Rico) hay seems to be improving and suppliers on island are starting to take and make deliveries—(but it) still has a way to go," Blodgett said via text message. "Feed plants are open and feed suppliers (are) functioning now, so feed and grain are available.
"Shavings are also available to some extent. The main issue at (the) track is the barns aren't being repaired. (There are) still
many stalls without roofs and with recent heavy rains, some horses are still exposed to elements and any shavings they put down got wet or were washed away. So (there is a) lack of roofing and (some horses are) standing on concrete... at the track."
The CTA reported that 14 horses have been euthanized for various reasons, such as colic, founder, and other exposure issues. Those 14 include: Serie Mundial, Dayne's Pulpit, Biscotti, Salto del Indio, Vuelve Gilberto M, El Traketo, Senor Cali, Pelusita, Native Speed, Recogido, Palma Soriano, Irish Chatter, and Roman's Touch. CTA is working to confirm the name of the 14th horse. BH

EUROS INVADE FOR E.P. TAYLOR, CANADIAN INTERNATIONALBy Michael Adolphsont @AdolphsonRacing
If there is one narrative that seems to flow through most of the European invaders' connections at
Woodbine this week, it is a yearning for a grade 1 breakthrough for their respective athletes. Many of those who made the trip for the $800,000 Pattison Ca-nadian International Stakes (G1T) and the $500,000 E. P. Taylor Stakes (G1T) are considered grade 1-level horses without the top-level achievement to show for it, topped by Idaho and Chemical Charge in the In-ternational, as well as Rain Goddess and Blond Me in its female counterpart. The outlier is Nezwaah, who broke through in July's Pretty Polly Stakes (G1) at The Curragh in Ireland.
Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and Mrs. John Magnier's Aidan O'Brien-trained Idaho has long been saddled with high hopes, thanks to being a full brother to world-traveling Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1T) winner Highland Reel. The son of Galileo has raced extremely well when stepping up to the top-level
plate, with placings in the Epsom Derby, Irish Derby and earlier this year in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Royal Ascot, finishing ahead of his brother in the process. His ratings are on the level of a group 1 animal, including a career-high Timeform rating (126) in the King George, finishing third behind super-filly Enable.
Idaho gets another chance in the Canadian International, a race in which he checked in fifth by 2 1/2 lengths last year as the 7-5 favorite. That race was won by Erupt, who returns here as the lone grade 1 winner in the field.
Idaho enters off short rest, having finished eighth Oct. 1 in the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (G1). An effort perhaps better than it looks on paper, Idaho became the pacemaker for his four Ballydoyle-trained stablemates, but still finished gamely in eighth of 18. That followed a sixth-place effort a race prior in the Sword Dancer Stakes (G1T) at Saratoga Race Course. Kieran Murphy, head traveling lad to O'Brien, is high on the Hardwicke Stakes (G2) winner's chances of improving form and ascending to the next level.
"We are very happy with him, he's very happy and very relaxed. Everything has gone well," Murphy said. "He
shipped very well. He seems fine since the Arc. We have just tried to keep him doing what he's doing ever since to get him here. I'd imagine he would be up (forwardly placed), but I am guessing (O'Brien) will just leave it up to (jockey) Ryan (Moore).
"I think he's a lot stronger horse this year and looks a lot stronger," Murphy continued. "He's obviously more mature and we're hoping to see that tomorrow. He does get (sweaty prior to racing), but that's just him. If he didn't, we would worry something was wrong. His brother does the same thing."

Qatar Racing's Chemical Charge enters the International as an unknown commodity. The son of Sea The Stars is consistent (in the money 12-of-13) and enters the 1 1/2-mile event off consecutive victories. The Ralph Beckett trainee must continue a positive trajectory to be considered a grade 1 horse. When stepped up in class three back in Royal Ascot's Hardwicke, he lacked room and finished 1 3/4 lengths behind Idaho in third.
"I really like how he's doing. He traveled well and he's settled in well. He's not bothered at all," said Lindsey Metcalf, head traveling lass and assistant to Beckett. "He's in good form and we're very lucky that he traveled well on top of that. As long as he's going forward, I don't think it matters where he's placed early. We'll take it as it comes, as far as the ground. We've come all this way and we're not turning around and going back."
Impressive in the flesh all week has been 5-year-old mare Blond Me, entered for the E.P. Taylor for trainer Andrew Balding and owner Mrs. Barbara M. Keller, the namesake of 2011 E. P. Taylor winner Miss Keller. To be bred to Galileo at the conclusion of this season, the five-time winner from 16 starts will try to finally break the grade 1 ceiling, concluding a season that saw her impressively take the Betfred Middleton Stakes (G2) at York and finish a game second to Winter in the Qatar Nassau Stakes (G2) at Goodwood. Last out, she took a bad step mid-race of the Qatar Prix Vermeille (G1) and was eased.
"I have always wanted to win this race," Keller said. "It's very much on my big bucket list and it's fantastic to be out here."
"She's brilliant," added head traveling lass Leanne Masterton. "She travels extremely well and is a bit of a pro at it. It's been a straight-forward week for her. She stretched her legs (Friday morning) and did an easy piece of work in hand. She's won on good-to-soft ground and ran the race of her life at Goodwood on softer ground. We will just cross out the last race."
As far as Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum and Godolphin Racing's Nezwaah, all roads appear to go through her, as the lone top-level winner in the race. The Roger Varian-trained daughter of Dubawi heads to the E. P. Taylor after a seventh last year following a poor post and awkward trip. Raced lightly in 2017 thus far, the improved winner of half her 10 starts has landed two of three, including the Pretty Polly. Both of her victories this year came at the E. P. Taylor's distance, while her lone loss came on testing ground in the 1 1/2-mile Darley Yorkshire Oaks, finishing fourth behind Enable.
"She's improved from three to four," said Wayne Tanner, Varian's assistant. "Last year she was drawn out wide and never got a chance. This year we have a better draw and a better filly. We could do without the rain, but we ran in a group 1 over soft ground and only finished (5 3/4) lengths behind Enable and that's not bad company. She does need cover, but when everything goes right, she's got a very good kick."
"She's a good traveler and loves it out here and is enjoying herself," added Petra Moravkova, assistant and exercise rider. "She's in great form and is still improving. In the Pretty Polly, she took on good horses and won. I don't think the race is too tough. We have already beaten Rain Goddess before. Blond Me is improving and doing well. It's a nice race and I think the best will win."
Earlier in the card, the Europeans will be represented by Kangyu International Racing's Group 3-winning Charles Hills trainee Cotai Glory. The 2-1 morning-line favorite for the $250,000 Nearctic Stakes (G2T) has been quite animated in the mornings. Third behind Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (G1) possibles Marsha and Lady Aurelia in August's Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes (G1) at York, he must prove he can step up to six furlongs from five and race effectively around a bend, but holds a significant class edge on his best form.
"He's in good form and is nice and fresh," said Mark Lashly, assistant. "I think we'll get a big run out of him. I don't think the turn or distance will be a problem. He's traveled brilliantly." BH

O'BRIEN SWEEPS TO VICTORY IN DEWHURST STAKESBy Bob Kieckhefer
U S Navy Flag flew home in the Darley Dewhurst Stakes (G1) at Newmarket Oct. 14, leading trainer
Aidan O'Brien's four starters to a 1-2-3-4 finish and moving the Irish conditioner to within one of the late Bobby Frankel's record of 25 top-level winners in a calendar year.
Into the bargain, the Dewhurst is a key pointer to the following season's QIPCO Two Thousand Guineas and U S Navy Flag, a War Front colt out of the Galileo mare Misty For Me, immediately moved front and center for that classic.
U S Navy Flag, a full brother to multiple group 1-winning 3-year-old filly Roly Poly, was prominent from the start and finished the seven furlongs in 1:22.37 over good going, a course record for a 2-year-old on a day when records were established in three of the first four races.
Trailing him home were Mendelssohn, Seahenge, and Threeandfourpence. All four are American-bred. Mendelssohn and Seahenge are by the late Scat Daddy and Threeandfourpence is by War Front.
U S Navy Flag completed a double of the Dewhurst and the six-furlong Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes (G1) Sept. 30.
"I suppose we're lucky to have a colt who has pace enough for six and it looks as though (he has) a good chance of getting a mile," O'Brien said.
Asked what's next, O'Brien nodded without particular enthusiasm to the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G1T).
"He (could go to) America, but I don't know. We'll see how he is. He's certainly very happy with what he's doing," he said.
The disappointment of the race was Expert Eye, a Juddmonte Farms homebred colt by Acclamation, who went to the post an odds-on favorite, pulled hard through the early furlongs and faded to finish last of nine—his first defeat in three races.
"It was just very disappointing," trainer Sir Michael Stoute said of Expert Eye's performance. "He was a little keen early on but, even so, it was disappointing. That's not him."
O'Brien's chase after Frankel's record hit a few jarring bumps in the hours before U S Navy Flag delivered the goods. His antepost favorite for the Oct. 13 bet385 Fillies' Mile (G1) at Newmarket, Happily, was scratched and then September missed by the narrowest of noses catching pacesetter Laurens for the win. And hours before the Dewhurst and well across the world, O'Brien-trained Johannes Vermeer came up just a head short of catching Gailo Chop in the Ladbrokes Stakes (G1) at Caulfield in Australia.
As he has throughout recent weeks, O'Brien soft-peddled the chase.
"It would be massive for everyone, but we don't think about it as a long-term thing," he said. "We take every horse and each race at a time, but it would be a massive achievement for everybody." BH

RUBILINDA HOLDS OFF PARTY BOAT IN PEBBLES STAKESBy Erin Sheat @BH_EShea
After a wide, sweeping move coming into the Bel-mont Park stretch, Don Alberto homebred Ru-
bilinda still had enough left to hold off late surges from Party Boat and Thais to win the $200,000 Pebbles Stakes for 3-year-old fillies Oct. 14.
The Chad Brown-trained daughter of Frankel raced in fourth during the early stages of the one-mile turf event for 3-year-old fillies, before she circled the leaders and held on to win by a nose. It was her first win at a mile, after she took a six-furlong maiden race and the six-furlong Christiecat Stakes Sept. 8.
"We're thankful to come away with the victory," Brown said. "She ran well. She was still a little green there down the lane, switching leads and such. (Jockey Jose Ortiz) said, when he pulled her into daylight a little earlier than she had been, she was pulling a little bit, so she still has some learning to do, but she ran good."
Sylphide assumed the lead out of the gate, as Dynatail and Adorable Miss stalked the pacesetter. Rubilinda raced comfortably behind that pair in fourth,
as the leader cut fractions of :23.03 and :46.06 for a half-mile.
As six furlongs went in 1:10.91, Ortiz moved Rubilinda wide four wide around the turn, but was challenged late when Party Boat and Thais moved up on her outside. But Rubilinda wasn't done and she pushed forward to hit the wire first. She narrowly scored by a nose over Party Boat, with Thais a head back in third. The final time was 1:34.72 on the Widener turf rated firm.
Favored Rubilinda returned $4.40, $2.90, and $2.20 across the board.
"Stretching out to a mile has been a little complicated for me and her to get along, because she's going to be a little keen. She trains like that in the morning, a little keen too," Ortiz said of the lightly raced filly. "Today she learned a lot of things. She's going to keep learning."
Bred in Kentucky, Rubilinda is the first foal out of the Invincible Spirit mare Rubina, who was purchased by Don Alberto in foal to Frankel for $815,706 at the 2013 Tattersalls December mares sale from Lofts Hall Stud.
Rubilinda, who was also her sire's first winner in the U.S., now has three wins and one second with earnings of $240,400. Brown is unsure what's next for his runner.
"I felt she could get a mile and she did," the trainer said. "I've never felt sure to campaign anything past a mile yet, but after today, I don't know. I'll keep all the mile races on the table and then look for her to get past a mile.
"But she has some things (to work on). … So I'm not sure if she wants to go any farther if you held her under cover for longer. There's some things that maybe we can get an extra sixteenth out of her. We'll see." BH

ENGAGE OVERWHELMS FOES IN FUTURITY STAKESBy Alicia Wincze Hughest @BH_AHughes

transition for Woodford Racing's Engage, as the son of Into Mischief busted through an outside seam in the stretch en route to a visually impressive 3 1/2-length victory in the $150,000 Futurity Stakes (G3) Oct. 14 at Belmont Park.
Off all the youngsters that touted themselves during the Saratoga Race Course meeting, Engage was one of the more workmanlike members of trainer Chad Brown's group. After he finished second in his debut Aug. 5, the bay colt notched a half-length win going six furlongs Sept. 4 to break his maiden after he raced off the pace in third under Jose Ortiz.
With Ortiz at the helm again, Engage showed he had some versatility during the six-furlong Futurity. As Red Peril cut fractions of :22.52 and :45.76, Engage rated last in the five-horse field but was just a few lengths off the leader. Coming off the final turn, he accelerated between Smooth B to his outside and Mojovation and finished well clear of runner-up Barry Lee.
"He's shown quite a bit of improvement in each of his starts," Brown said. "I was telling his owners in the paddock how much he's filled out since his last race. This horse is in a growth spurt right now and I like the fact we've kept him sprinting for now.
Hopefully he continues to develop physically and we'll stretch him out as we go.
"He strikes me as a one-turn horse, but I think there is room for improvement, and we are going to try to stretch him out gradually. Speaking with Jose just now, he feels the same way."
With Ortiz giving him light urging, Engage hit the wire in 1:10.09, which left his pilot impressed with the gears he felt beneath him.
"(He's a) really nice horse. The first time he ran, I knew he was a good horse that day, and he came back and won, and last week he worked tremendous," Ortiz said. "With the post that I had today, I knew he was going to be tough. When I asked him to go at the three-sixteenths, I got the hole and I went outside Johnny (Velazquez, aboard Mojovation, and) he really
exploded. He gave me a great turn of foot."
Mojovation finished third behind Barry Lee, with Red Peril and Smooth B completing the order of finish. Sent off at 1-2 odds, Engage paid $3.10, $2.30, and $2.10 across the board.
Bred by Woods Edge Farm, Engage was purchased by Woodford Racing for $550,000 out of this year's Ocala Breeders' Sales March 2-year-olds in training sale. He is out of the stakes-placed Speightstown mare Nefertiti.
"I think the (grade 2) Nashua Stakes makes sense (at one mile), if we choose to bring him back in that time frame and keeping him (at) one turn for now," Brown said. "Going around two turns, we'll see how he develops." BH
