SheinwoodCornmillWe were originally living in the centre of Birmingham and decided we wanted a more rural location to bring the children up. When I first came to view the house I drove up over the edge of the valley and peered down; it was as though I had travelled back 200 years into the past. All that was there was the Georgian manor house and the beautiful water mill – a breath-taking sight. I fell in love immediately.

That view still hasn’t changed much since I moved in, first to the manor, and then to the Mill. I’ve spent many hours lovingly planting trees and shrubs and generally landscaping. In the springtime, the woodland garden is set ablaze with bluebells, rhododendrons and wild garlic. I dredged out the original pond and spent almost 12 months rebuilding the mill where sheep and hay used to be kept.

I will miss the uniqueness of the converted mill – the beams and the wheels, the quirky staircases and the warmth of the house – it is a really special place. The lounge is probably my favourite room.It is delightful, with a sunken dining area. I like to sit here in the morning as the sun shines through the window and read the newspaper. It is warm and cosy, particularly in the winter with the log burner going.

My home is located very close to Much Wenlock, a large sought after village location. We have a beautiful church and the best butchers for miles – there is a permanent queue down the high street. There are also cute tea rooms and a Hay-on-Wye style bookshop. We are surprisingly close to the motorway network, and Birmingham with its fantastic cultural life is a relatively easy drive away.

It really is the most extraordinary and unusual property and I hope to find someone who appreciates it. It will suit someone who loves the countryside, who will enjoy the tranquillity of the garden and who will fit into the rural paradise.*
