Pukekohe Lives Up To It's High-Speed Train Line Reputation With the simple facts of Pukekohe known to all who attend her on a regular basis - such as crazy weather patterns, high speed thrills, and very limited passing opportunities - it was no surprise to see the results of day one for the UDC V8 Ute Series. The UDC V8 Utes have t hree genuine races and one qualifying race, making it a unique way to earn season points. The points from the qualifying run are simply allocated from fastest to slowest, so you are racing the clock as well as others, and your nal placing plays no bearing on the grid position for the upcoming races. From there you have the points allocation from those three races - and again the series puts an unusual twist into things. The grid placings for race one are sorted by a simple marble draw and if that wasn't enough to make life fun, the grid for race two is a reversal of that same draw. Tactically many teams like to get numbers from the middle so they have a shot in both races, where others prefer to be at the pointy end for at least one go - for the Mit re 10 Trade Racing Team is was the former, Huggi drawing the middle of the barrel #5. Before he ventured out into the marble placed zone he had mixed thoughts about his previous qualifying run "I was quicker than practice yesterday - but so too were others" and this had him with an 8th placed nish - even with a small excursion off the track on turn one, much to the delight of the Mitre 10 zone overlooking that part of the circuit.

The marble draw for races one and two however were looking positive, knowing that fromthe middle there was always a chance of improvement even with the 'train-ride' thatPukekohe often provides. Thirty minutes out from the race mindsets were changed when the clouds came in and aheavy session of rain coated every part of the track, but maybe the weather gods were

smiling on the UDC V8 Utes because five minutes out from the green flag the sun madeanother heated appearance allowing a fast dry out period for the tarmac. From there it was simply a case of patience, hoping that he could keep pace, and wait formistakes up front. Huggi made a clean start and held his 5th grid spot into turn one andinto the rest of the flying circuit - but much to his dismay those in front were also just asclean. Only one spot was traded and that was position 3 moving into 2 off the start line - but forHuggi, it was simply a clean trouble free run, starting 5th and finishing 5th. Sunday willbring the reverse marble draw of race two, followed by a more traditional race three, wheregrid positions are allocated by a combination of results from the weekend. So far it is a positive result for the Mitre 10 Trade Racing Team - the boy's seem to love itwhen a plan comes together.....
