In this wonderful introduction to theatre for young children, the Little Dog Barking theatre company performs their production of Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge, a simple story about childhood, age, and memory.
Hands-on Music
Asher Hall (St. Paul’s): 11th January 2:00pm. Ages 4+.
Anthony from The Groove Foundation will be bringing a range of musical instruments for you to try out. Have a turn playing the electric guitar, the snare drum, the banjo, or the double bass!
Mask Making
MTG Hawke’s Bay and Taradale Library: 12th January 10am to 12pm. Ages 4+.
Come in anytime between ten and midday and become a big cat, a monkey, a crocodile, or some other savage beast.
Our Last Hurrah!
Napier Library: 22nd December 10:30am. All ages.
On our final day in the old library we’re going to have one last story-time, with Christmas stories, music, sweets and treats to follow. Come along and celebrate with us! Will suit all children.

Jake’s Ancient Animals
Taradale Library: 8th January 2:00pm Ages 4+.
Jake from the Aquarium will come to show us remains of the animals that once walked and swam in the hot, prehistoric world… including the mighty Spinosaurus!
Real or Fake Wild Animal Challenge
Anytime at the Napier Library before December 22nd, and at MTG Hawke’s Bay from 27 December. Anytime at the Taradale Library.Is it real or fake? You decide, then make up a name for the species! We’ll draw a winner from the correct real or fake answers, but our favourite names may win a prize too…A different challenge each week during the summer
Minecraft
Every Friday afternoon from 3:30pm to 4:30pm; at the Napier Library before December 22nd, and at MTG Hawke’s Bay from 27 December. Minecraft: A safe, supervised shared Minecraft world for kids. Participants will need to bring their own tablet or iPad with the latest version of Mine-craft pocket edition loaded on it.
Magic: the Gathering
Every Friday afternoon from 3pm to 5pm; at the Napier Library before December 22nd, and at MTG Hawke’s Bay from 27 December. Magic: the Gathering: An exciting fantasy card game for both beginners and aficionados. Tutorials available.
The Jungle Trail Hunt
16th January 1:00 to 4:00pm at the Botanical Gardens (see map below).
Follow the jungle trail and spot the wild animals hidden among the trees. Rewards for every successful team! Remember to bring your sun-hat, water bottle, and an adult.Summer Reading Programme participants — before you begin (or after you’ve finished) come and do a report-in on the big lawn.
