y name is Meg Therese F. Villena and my initials are MTFV. I recently graduated from Jesus Good Shepherd School. I have compiled a portfolio of my work for you in the hopes that my art will first and foremost make you appreciate life and secondly, to allow me to go further with your help. Since I am a photojournalist, I capture reality that can be seen anywhere. Through the contests I have joined in my four years in high school, I have deepened my understanding for journalism and the importance of being able to communicate the truth. Also, I am an aspiring fine art photographer. Being a journalist and an illusionist at the same time is still a complicated combination to grasp, but hopefully through the means of creating a photograph and telling a story, I can hopefully allow the truth to permeate through my photographs. Again, I have made this portfolio for you. I only hope that through what God has given me, I

n this portfolio, you will find a collection of my school work designs, commissioned and non-commissioned artwork, fine art photographs and so much more. These works have been made over the course of 3 years starting from 2013, my second year in high school. You will find a variety of designs in this portfolio as I am still trying out different mediums of art.

can show you a glimpse of reality but at the same time allow you to immerse yourself in the beauty that still remains vividly—and that is life. This incoming school year 2015-2016, I will venture into the institution I only dreamed of going to, the Ateneo de Manila University. Through God’s grace I was able to pass the entrance exam and because of Him I will be able to let myself grow through the Jesuit education. I have doubted myself at first but my mom always told me to never stop believing in myself, because I have the potential. And I can only pursue this dream of mine if you believe in me as well. I will be needing your help. In any amount and in any means, I will accept them, and my only payment in return as of the moment is the prayer I always pray everyday, to be able to do everything in God’s Greater Glory. And I hope that through this portfolio, I have indeed showed you what He has given me.

Photographing the sunset has been such a long phase for me since I was always awestruck with what uniqueness everyday can deliver. The setting is the same for me always, our roof, but the entire world above me continues to make me fall in love with photographing already beautiful things.

I have also found myself taking photographs of landscapes and architectures. Going to places has been rare opportunities for me since my family doesn’t prioritize traveling for traveling’s sake, but whenever we go out and mostly just when we are invited by our relatives, only then can I practice my hidden love for landscape photography.

Building the House of the Lord. The clouds gather around the area where the Mary, Mother of the Good Shepherd Chapel is being constructed.

Unfinished. The store beside our grandma’s place is well lit from the inside as an internet cafe business has already started.

I have also found beauty in details to which you will see in the following photographs where I have really taken the time to conceptualize each photo and to utilize my training as a student journalist.

As photojournalists, it is our job to take photographs of the truth. It is our task to give souls to photos that have stories that just needed to be let out. I once told someone that the reason why journalists are murdered and killed is because they tell the truth. But this is what makes us different, it is that we are the people who are bred not to become rebels, but are seen like so because we are empowered with the desire to reveal the corruption, the politics, and most especially the real situation of a country.

As photojournalists we are not encouraged to post process our photos but I guess this is the good thing about wanting to be a fine art photographer at the same time. I always believed that black and white photos disclose the entirety of a human entity, and this is me trying to encapsulate that essence. We are journalists,—photojournalists, feature writers, editorial writers, editorial

cartoonists—name whatever category you see in a newspaper or in the television, we are that. We are the people who are just dying to say something, even if it means giving up our dignities. Our opinions matter, we were nursed to believe that our opinions are all we have, and that our opinions are our backbones to continuing our journeys and to live a life of purpose.

Aside from photographing myself and trying out different techniques on my own (maybe it’s also because I’m quite shy to direct people and tell them how to pose) I have also had the opportunity to take photographs of my cousins and of my closest friends.

espite my love for photography, I have also learned to use my knowledge in using Photoshop and Illustrator to make my school life easier, or maybe a little bit more complicated. I always loved to put effort in my school work and I never fail to learn everytime I finish something. Because of this, I was able to get commission from designing. This helped me even in my payments for school and I didn’t have to worry my parents about these additional payments. Also, because of the nature of our business, I was also able to really help my mom with designing the cards we use for our gift products. Helping her and the family business allowed me to grow in discpline that my talent must be used and trained efficiently so that the moment I need the ideas, I will be able to bring them out without waiting for inspiration to strike. This also helped me a lot regarding my patience and learning how to listen.

This is a promotional poster I made which has been used as the Facebook Cover Photo of the Supreme Student Government Facebook Page in preparation for the JGSS x Ateneo CODE engagement.

I was given the rare opportunity to design for an organization in Ateneo, in which my sister is a member. The project of the AESS (Ateneo Environmental Science Society) was to promote environmental awareness

and so I made posters and shirt designs for them. I also designed the logo for this project.

Also, for four consecutive years, I was very fortunate to have designed our

batch shirts.

One of the greatest tasks and privileges I was given was to design a brochure and a bookmark for the Pastorelle Sisters, both of which were distributed throughout the country This congregation, founded by Blessed James Alberione is also the congregation behind the institution that has allowed me to reach where I am now and to easily look back with pride and magnanimity of the compassion they have shared to me and to the rest of the students they have taught.

As a gift to my family members, I hand painted and scanned these illustrations to serve as the art they will find on this 2015 calender I laid out.

Treasures Abound was established by my sister and me hopefully to be able to add to our income. However, despite planning out all these advertisements and promotions, we still haven’t formally started our business due to the lack of funds as well. It was merely our excitement that led us to creating these calling cards that we haven’t yet distributed except to family members. We wish to expand this or start with this business by trading in and out gift items and offering personal services such as designing inivitations, calling cards and the like.
