‘ Guitar Jenny’
This generally characterises the type who carry more weight around the middle. It often refers to those who are in the ‘fuller’ figure category or have what is often re-ferred to as an apple-shaped figure, and do not go in more than 7 inches in the middle. Although this may not seem a flattering description, it just means that the waist is rounded, rather than very tapered. If your waist is more than 7 inches less than your bust or hips then this figure type does not refer to you.
If you have difficulty finding clothes to fit and hate shop-ping, perhaps you should consider (for a special event) having something made or customised as it is less bother and makes you feel good if it fits well. Consider a tailored dress and jacket as this is far more flattering than a skirt which cuts you in the middle. Strong flat woven fabric with no texture or shine eg wool mixes or linen is the best. Suits can easily be dressed up or down, jack-ets swopped over or worn with fancy or casual acces-sories. If you have a few curves give them emphasis through seaming and semi-fitting detail. As a more girly style enjoy playing with layers, off the shoulder or cowl necked tops–, floaty lightweight scarves and favourite colours, don’t just stick to black unless it is for evening wear, when the LBD was made for you as a staple stylish statement. Don’t forget that under wear is even more important un-der that stylish outfit, when trying to impress wear a smoothing body or underskirt to hide underwear lines, but be realistic and comfortable, always buy the right size for you. For casual be creative and use layers and soft fine fabrics, the more the better especially if you are also tall, also play with prints and bright colours.
To add a little bit of extra curve casually, wear a bootleg style trouser, trendy but comfy shoes and a semi-fitted jacket that covers your waistband. Top it off with a low neckline and a scarf or draped style top - gently shaped under the bust and flowing past your waistband. An ap-ple shape can be both smart and glamorous.

Short Small SuzyIf you are a ‘Short Small Suzy’ consider shopping in
an outlet that caters for you eg: Precis Petite or simi-
lar. The perfect suit length for you is just below the
knee cap as this gives the illusion of height. Ensure
your sleeve lengths are right especially on a good
coat or jacket – again try to get it taken up as this
saves you looking like it is too big for you. Empire
Line dresses with shaped figure hugging seams are
perfect if you are smaller than 5’1” this also adds
height as do shorter fitted jacket styles, ending at the
hip bone.
Long Tall SallyThis is actually a make of clothes – especially suited
to taller women. They cater for women over 5’8” as
do many of the high street stores now, GAP and
NEXT included. Any designer range will possibly suit
you, but these can be expensive, try TK Max, for their
designer samples. You can wear long flowing
palazzo pants with very long dramatic coats and
cardigans. The more you cut yourself across with
horizontal lines the shorter you will look, e.g: contrast-
ing tops and bottoms and ankle straps on shoes, if
this is what you desire. Wearing a skirt length just
below the knee can make you appear gangly if you
are very tall, so go for a longer length skirt or just
above the knee. You can wear the layered look to
great effect, but bring bright colour down towards the
ground with flat patent ballet pumps or coloured
