MTD 3043: Case Study Tan jung Malim Public Library is the biggest library in Muaali m Distric. Currently it has about 650 members. The age to become a member is from 6 years old and above. There is a membershi fee of !M "5 for a year. There is a form to be filled in #hich erson fills  ersonal details. These forms are $et in store for maintaining members% records and $no#ing the membershi eriod. & member can issue a ma'imum of three boo$s. (ach boo$ is to be returned on the secified due date. )f a member fails to return a boo$ on the secified date* a fine of !M + er day after the due return date is charged. )f in case a card gets lost then a dulicate card is issued #ith a fine of !M5. &ccounts are maintained for the membershi fees and money collected from the fines. There are t#o librarians for boo$s return and issue transaction . &bout +00 members come to library daily to issue and return boo$s. There are 5000 boo$s available out of #hich +000 boo$s are for reference and cannot be issued. !ecords for the boo$s in the library are maintained. These records contain details about the ublisher* author* subject* language* etc. There are suliers that s uly boo$s to the library. Library maintains records of these suliers. Many reorts are also roduced. These reorts are for details of the boo$s available in the library* financial details* members% details* and sulier%s details. Currently all functions of the library are done manually. (ven the records are maintained on  aers. The numbers of members are increasing daily. Maintaining manual records is  becoming difficult tas$. There are other roblems also that the library staff is facing* such as in case of issue of dulication cards* it is very difficult to chec$ if it is genuine or not. ,ometimes the library staff needs to $no# about the status of a boo$ as to #hether it is issued or not. ,o to e rf orm this $i nd of sear ch is ve ry di ff icul t in a manual syste m. &lso management re-uires reorts for boo$s issued* boo$s in the library* members* and accounts. Manually roducing the reorts is a burdensome job #hen there are hundreds and thousands of records. Management lans to e'and the library* in terms of boo$s* number of members and finally the revenue generated. )t is observed that every month there are at least "0/0 re-uests for membershi. or the last t#o months the library has not entertained re-uests for the ne# membershi* as it #as difficult to manage the e'isting 650 members manually. 1ith the e'ansion lans* the management of the library aims to increase its members at the rate of 60  er month. )t also lans to increase the membershi fees from !M "5 to 50 for yearly in order to rovide its members better services* #hich includes increase in number of boo$s from 2 to 5. Due to the roblems faced by the library staff and its e'ansion lans* the management is  lanning to have a system that #ould first eradicate the needs of cards. & system is needed to automate the functions of record $eeing and reort generation. &nd #hich could hel in e'ecuting the different searches in a faster manner. The system also has to handle the financial details.
