Backpack for Kids Mt. Ruhama is helping to sponsor the

BACKPACK FOR KIDS program at Balls Creek Elementary and Tuttle Elementary

This program is geared to help children in need by supplying food over the weekends. The backpacks are distributed each Friday with around 15 items of food, and the empty packs are returned on Mondays. The process is repeated each week.

Because of increased need our collection will be ongoing/year round. We will alternate delivery to each school as soon as an

adequate amount has been collected. What types of food are needed? Any single serving canned food (pop-top if available) or individually wrapped snack foods will be accepted. Our goal is to provide healthy foods that are child friendly. The contents for each backpack will weigh approximately 5 lbs., yet in some cases, a bag could weigh up to 12 lbs., with contents. Therefore, it is important to use single serving cans so that it will be lighter for the children to carry home. *Canned meats (chicken, tuna, ham) *Canned meals (beef stew, soup, beef-a-roni, chicken & dumplings,

Macaroni & cheese, spaghetti & meatballs) *Ramen Noodles, Instant Oatmeal & Grits in packet *Fruit bars, Granola Bars, Pop-Tarts, Cereal Bars, Protein Bars *Peanut Butter (small plastic jars or single serving cups) *Popcorn, crackers, etc.

ANY single serve non-perishable food items will be welcomed. (Microwavable items are fine)

Eye Glass Holders ~ Mission Project Calling all women with sewing machines!! If anyone is interested in helping make eye

glass holders for a Mission Project, please contact Carol Laney. She needs 1,000 of them

made by June when she leaves for her Mission Trip. There is a large bag of donated

material from Sharon Treadway (Dawn Treadway’s mom) in the Office with a sample

done by Callie Cope. Anyone interested can come on Fridays with sewing machine and

sit in Fellowship Hall, unless prior event scheduled. (Office is open from 8am-4pm)

NC Confederate Memorial Day ~ May 9th Please join the Sons of Confederate Veterans at 6:00 pm at the Confederate monument on “The Square” in Newton as they continue a tradition that started 148 years ago. In 1867 the families and veterans of NC chose May 10th as a day to honor those who didn’t come home. Approximately 600 Catawba County Soldiers lost their lives and never returned. Event is sponsored by the Cpt. C.F. Connor camp #849 Sons of Confederate Veterans, Hickory, NC.

THIS IS THE WAY, WALK IN IT ~ VBS VBS is July 12-16, 2015. Adult Volunteers are NEEDED. Join us as we prepare to share Jesus’ love with our church and community children. Complete Adult Volunteer Form found in bulletin and either give it to Charlotte Story or place it in the envelope on the bulletin board in the fellowship hallway. Kid’s registration cards will be available at the bulletin board also. Please take as many as you need to invite everyone to join us this year for VBS - as we Journey off the Map.
