Sick and Elderly:
***************************************************************************** Pregnant Women and the unborn baby:
If there’s one thing that my silly ADHD brain has a hard time with, it ’s prayer. What a great thing to have trouble with, right? However, this is a reality that eve-ryone has difficulty with at some point. We live in a world that is so busy and loud that makes it 10x harder to quiet our minds and hearts in order to enter into prayer. Likewise, there are seasons where prayer comes so naturally and be-comes a place of rest. However… there are other times when it might not be so easy. Maybe the fire has become a spark. Maybe the emotional aspects of prayer have diminished and it has rather becoming a grueling task to tick off the to -do list. Regardless of whatever season you may be in, there is always a need to re-kindle, revamp, and renew prayer.
Be Honest When going through a season of dryness within prayer, we can take on an ele-ment of guilt and shame; a feeling like we are not doing enough. However, our loving God wants nothing more than a mustard seed of faith and effort. There is so much hope in knowing that the little time and effort that we can offer Him, He reaps 40 fold. Likewise, God wants our honesty and authenticity. He doesn ’t want us to fake it in our prayer by pretending like everything is fine and dandy with long, pretentious prayers. If you are struggling to pray, tell Him. If you feel guilty, tell Him. If you feel unworthy or even unloved, tell Him. In fact, by being openly honest with the Lord in prayer, He wants nothing more to show and prove His love to you.
Now, this is important so listen to me as I say this. Your prayer does NOT need to be perfect. Again. Your prayer does not need to be perfect. In fact, by trying to present God with an extravagant and eloquent prayer (which is still beautiful, don’t get me wrong), can shift our hearts more towards what we are saying and how we say it, rather than having a conversation with our Lord. Likewise, our prayer does not always have to be deep and life -shattering. Just as Jesus is our Lord and Savior, He is also a friend. A Father. When talking with a friend, you aren’t always talking about the super-rich and deep things. Sometimes you goof off. Sometimes you talk about pointless things. As weird as it sounds, God wants to hear these things. He wants to hear about your day and the simple things you want to share with Him. This allows us to enter into our childlike faith. A faith that is so personal and close to the heart of Jesus that we want to share everything with Him… even if it’s about the really good pizza you had for lunch that day. It ’s okay and truly good to make Jesus laugh sometimes.

28° SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Reflection in preparation for next weekend’s Gospel
“Ten lepers met him. They stood at a distance …” In the ancient world and into the Middle Ages, there was no treatment for leprosy. People thought it was wildly contagious and were suspicious of any skin diseases. Lepers were isolated from civil society. This isolation was uphold by the Mosaic Law. Should there be a healing from leprosy, the former leper was to pre-sent himself to a priest to certify the healing. Like Jesus commands, “Show yourselves to the priests.” The person would then undergo a reli-gious rite to be formally reintroduced to society. In other words, a leper got their life back. So why didn’t they come back? “As they were going they were cleansed. And one of them, realizing he had been healed, returned, glorifying God in a loud voice; and he fell at the feet of Jesus and thanked him.” Of the ten lepers healed by Christ, only one returns with a grateful heart. The others, perhaps, were thankful enough. Perhaps they couldn’t believe their luck, and they hastened to the priests to confirm the healing. They were more than willing to leave their life of rejection and isolation behind. Why take any steps backward, when the way ahead was so attractive? An attitude like this is perhaps understanda-ble, but few would admire it. How about you? Do you come back? If you’ve ever had the experience of getting what you hoped and prayed for, you know that this can sometimes be easier said than done. When we’ve wanted something badly enough, how easy it can be to focus on the gift rather than the giver. The truth is, God is daily offering us gifts: the gift of our existence, of the created world, of family and friends, of modern conveniences. Even in times of dis-tress, there is always something to be thankful for. This Sunday, give yourself a gratitude check. Count your blessings. Glorify God and thank Him for the gift of your life! ©2019 Liturgical Publications, Inc.

Octubre 13, 2019 28° DOMINGO DE TIEMPO ORDINARIO
