Goals• To introduce and immerse ourselves in the cultural
and social experience of an African nation and the African continent
• To instill a fundamental appreciation of the social, economic and ethnic challenges in the history of a diverse and developing nation.
• To understand the differing commercial challenges, and opportunities, of succeeding in business in South Africa as well as in Africa.

Evaluation• To receive credit for the course participants must:• Complete advanced work

• Attend all pre-travel meetings• Attend and participate fully in all activities and site
visits during the module

Pre-Work• Read one of 10 selected books on South Africa,

Forgiveness in the New South Africa.• South Africa: The First Man, The Last Nation.• Tomorrow is Another Country: The Inside Story of
South Africa’s Road to Change.• Disgrace: A Novel• Kaffir Boy, The True Story a Black Youth's Coming of
Age in Apartheid South Africa• Read current economic and social conditions briefs
on South Africa• Prepare for site visits (team)• We will meet at least twice before departing, with
one meeting on Tuesday, February 26
