Professional Learning
Objective 1: Recruit non-Board members into event committeesObjective 2: Plan and implement various one-day events throughout the yearObjective 3: O揖er nontraditional learning opportunities that meet the needs ofdi揖erent learners
Identi緫ed by email or by Board member recommendationsMSLA’s future recruitment strategies will rely heavily on member recommendationsand direct invitations.MSLA members enjoyed four very di揖erent events that we o揖ered this year: BetterTogether with MassCUE, Digital Learning Day @ WGBH, Edcamp MSLA, and the SpringBookFest. Each event had a di揖erent focus and all were well attended. The feedbacksurveys revealed that members enjoyed the di揖erent events and also respondedpositively to the o揖ering of a揖ordable, one-day events.

MSLA was pleased to o揖er the school library community an opportunity to takecontrol of their own professional learning by holding Edcamp MSLA. Attendees wereable to have the conversations that were meaningful to them and to choose whatthey were going to learn about that day. MSLA also o揖ered a “sandbox” or“playground” at the DLD@WGBH where participants could choose to sit in theplayground, ask questions and learn with other, and try things that they learned in anunstructured way. Most members really enjoyed the theme focused events whichhelped members delve deeper into speci緫cs topics. The future plan is to hold the annual conference every year but provide smallerworkshops and webinars that don’t take immense amounts of planning and moreaccessible by more members.
